  1. Impressive win Milan. Congratulations on a near perfect season (2 more wins and it will be!). Stay focused on one game at a time and represent West TN. football well. We'll all be pulling for you. To the JCS players. It's been a great year, thanks for the thrills and memories. You played all year with class and intensity. We had a few miss cues along the way but you overcame them. There is no shame in being beaten by a better team, it is only when you fail to give your best effort. Congratulations on a great season.
  2. What is this crap? I dont blame Milan from getting out of this Zplan mess but if you can just opt out and play anyone you want I think the privates may have rethought their decesion. I didnt see anything in the TSSAA thing that said you didnt have to play up. It said you have to play all teams in your region. How will this affect seeding in the playoffs (teams who play their region vs pods)?
  3. Could you start a thread on the DII schedule meeting? I guess that would be on the 4A,5A,D2 board.
  4. How many non region games will JCS get next year? I see Milan is in a 9 team region which would only give them 2 non region games.
  5. Where do these people come from? They bash us if we stay and compete with them (even after having our enrollment multiplied by the highest rate in the country) and they bash us if we choose to leave.
  6. Milan and JCS had to play each other in the first round and they had just played each other 3 weeks before in the regular season.
  7. JCS beat the Hawks in 2005. the year before they won the State Championship. The Hawks responded with a thorough thrashing of JCS in 2006. Congats TCA on an impresive season.
  8. Yes you could have a lot of teams with losing records make the playoffs if my read is correct. In my previous example, if you had a region with 2 3A teams and 7 4A teams it could go like this. The 3A teams could lose all their games to the 4A teams along with their pickup games and the one that beats the other would automatically qualify for the playoffs with a record of 1-9 ( I hope I don't have to diagram that sentence). I could be wrong but like all things from the TSSAA, I think the scenarios were thought out poorly. a good example would be last years teams from the same region facing each other in the first round.
  9. The way I read it is as follows. If you have a 3A&4A region with 9 total teams (2 from 3A and 7 from 4A), you would have 1 auto qualify from 3A (50%) and 3 slots from 4A(will not be rounded up, i.e no 3.5). What really stinks about this is the second team in 3A could have a great season but not qualify due to having a strong 4A region and not getting a wild card due to another region being heavy in 3A and light in 4A (ie 7 3A teams and 2 4a teams).
  10. The problem is that USJ and JCS were being moved to 3A and being forced to play schools with enrollments of 1,000 (4A schools) students thanks to the Z plan combined with the multiplier. Yeah weve proved that we can compete but they just keep raising the bar. With both these schools having enrolments of about 325 that would seem a little difficult to maintain week after week. True you only play 3A schools when you get to the playoffs, but your team would be so banged up you wouldnt go far. Humbolt, Peabody, Dresden etc. all stay down in 2A

  12. Yes, that??™s why a talented team should have been at a minimum 9-1 this season vs 5-5 (hopefully). Great coaching, great execution and less than great execution. If we get into the playoffs, the boys need to step up and be the players tradition demand they be.
  13. Are you seriously bashing Coach Morris? He is a master at managing the clock and the game. Yes USJ and JCS gave them a good game but they are quality teams and Milan won! Milan goes no less than the semis for this year.
  14. I'm sure Reitzfan wasn't dissing Milan. I'm sure he was just using that to describe an exciting game. I graduated HS in 80 and know the Milan tradition, they dont rebuild, they just reload every year! Good luck in the playoffs. It's gonna take a lot of help to get us in and it has been quite awhile since JCS hasnt been in post season play.
  15. My son played travel baseball with him when they were 11 and 12. He is a smart talented athlete (and great baseball player) and a great TEAM player. With his character and the numbers he has put up, he deserves serious consideration for Mr. Football.
  16. Should be a packed house and an exciting game. I'm workin 3rd shift but may have to get up and go to this one.
  17. Yeah, having a gun held to your head. Those privates chose to leave!
  18. If TCA plays with the heart they did with JCS, I'll take TCA. Should be a good game.
  19. Anything goes when these two teams meet. USJ has rebuilt after a few lean years. Should be a great game.
  20. He's a great baseball player too. I got to see him play his freshman year when they beat us (JCS) in the playoffs. I think he returned a couple of kicks for TD's that season.
  21. Your right about Speed. He's a good kid too. I'm gonna have to get out of Jackson and get up there to see him play before the season is over.
  22. Didnt have to use one. Mrs. Harding was an excellent english teacher during her years at NorthSide. I beleive she still teaches at Madison Academic.
  23. Very good post but I stand by my statement that the 2500 kids in Jackson/Madison county private schools are making residents taxes lower by not taking their entitlement. I attended public school here 25 years ago and received an adequate education with little effort on my part. Public education in metro areas today is in shambles. The smart kids will emerge just as prepared as private school kids. The marginal ones may fall through the cracks due to the lack of discipline and enormous size. I can't remember the police ever being called to North Side while I attended there. Today we have police officers stationed in the schools and the police are called regularly for incidents that break out on campus. 2 years ago, I was walking down the hallway of my son??™s high school looking at the decorations that had been placed on students lockers. Something seemed strange and then I realized none of the lockers had locks on them! Public education is a noble ideal but social decay has ruined it in the metro areas. I guess you would call me middle class. I work a swing shift at a factory and our gross income is about 65K. The 3 cars my family drives are worth about 10K total. I am struggling to send my son to a private out of state Christian college (saving Tennesseans those tax dollars again, how bout a hug VG). I could have had a bigger house, nice cars, been able to take vacations but I would do it all over again. The blessings my family received cannot be quantified and material possessions pale in comparison. If you feel public education meets you family??™s needs, great for you.
  24. You left out the math calculation in your quote. Care to defend your statement or is it just a gratuitous assertion?
