  1. Is Southwind in the same class as White Station? Also they lost a LOT from their unbelievable team last year. How good will they be this year. I was impressed with them at the City of Palms last year. Very talented and very well-coached I thought.
  2. Who else in Memphis area is as good or at least close to there level. Not trying to argue at all, just asking. I am not from Tenn. so I truly don't know.
  3. I completely agree Rob. He was one I mentioned earlier as I had the pleasure to see his Bartlett teams a few times and was tremendously impressed, then watched his girls teams online a few times the past few years and again was tremendously impressed. BA hit a big time homerun with this hire!!!
  4. Probably so, although I had a bit of sarcasm in my statement lol. Just because it works for one school doesn't mean it is a great policy to use. Know of a junior college not in Tn., that hired a young asst & it worked out great, then they did it again twice and neither has worked very well at all.
  5. Where does Coach Hutchens coach at? I am not familiar with that many coaches from Tn. I coach in Florida. Thanks!
  6. I guess Lake Co. figured moving the middle school coach up worked for Southwind, then why not try it. Guy at SW did a nice job down at the City of Palms in Fort Myers this past year.
  7. Who of these or other coaches are really good at any certain thing defensively? As in a great man to man coach, or matchup zone, or has outstanding pressing teams? As a coach, always trying to learn from others who are outstanding. I will tell you Tim Riley while in Ky. was one of the better 2-2-1 press guys I have seen.
  8. "This guy can coach" ? Who are you talking about Galilee? Just wondering. I figure it is Coach Boykin but wanted to be sure. Thx in advance!
  9. With Coach Williams now at Milan, I hear he has some work to do just like the guy I mentioned (Coach Tim Riley). I always enjoyed watching LT play when Williams was there. I think he'll get Milan to where they need to be, just as I think Riley will eventually get Springfield there too.
  10. It probably won't show immediately, but a name that now needs to be added to this list is Tim Riley just hired at Springfield. He was one of the top hs coaches in Ky., for many years. I have heard he has his hands full building a winning program there though.
  11. I doubt the travel expenses were a problem. The City of Palms usually covers flights, motels, & meals, so there isn't too much expense involved. I know the COP runs into this occasionally where a team loses a player to another school or even injury after being invited. Last year Prestonwood Christian was supposed to have Mickey Mitchell and Julian Randle, but both were hurt (one during AAU play & 1 during football), but they still came. Might have gone 1-3, can't remember, but didn't win over 1 game after being in the finals the year before.
  12. Heard today that CPA no longer in the COP in Fort Myers this year.
  13. They won the 3A state title in Alabama this past season. Ironically Madison County won the 4A title. Lots of talent in that area apparently.
  14. Where do these 2 coach at? I am not from Tenn. so sometimes don't put the names with schools. Seems I have heard of Eldridge before. Also now that Dexter Williams is back in coaching does his name belong on this list ? I know he had a lot of talent at LT, but I was always impressed watching his teams play usually against more talented teams, because I normally watched them in Fort Myers at the COP.
  15. Hired Oliver Simmons from Florida. Has been pretty successful down here. Should do well up there.
  16. Most years I agree that HP offers more exposure than CPA or schools like them. CPA this coming year is playing in multiple big time exposure events so it "might" be a 1 year deal where the exposure would be similar. Wiggins move to HP was definitely something he should have done. You are totally correct about the "perception" of the players and parents these days. I hear that word "EXPOSURE" way too much even at my level, which although very successful I coach at a very small school in Florida. You make some great and very valid points tradertwo. Also sportsnerd, if the money situation is the case, then that is a very valid point too!
  17. I understand, but I think it is way overblown and oversold by the preps. With CPA's impending schedule at the COP & I believe Beach Ball again, plus the Memphis deal, and one more big one if I remember then their exposure will be close to or possibly even greater than HP, plus Wiggins is no longer there so their exposure rate will be a bit down. This past season HP wasn't even allowed to play in the NHSI on ESPN. There again not trying to be totally disagreeable, but they have that rep w/D-1's and the NBA because they "recruit" players from established high school programs and then it makes them look good. A few of the preps are very well-coached, but in watching and trying to learn that is not the norm at all. Of those few preps they are coached by former successful high school coaches. I do understand what is being sold to these young men tradertwo and it is hard for them to seperate some of the facts sometimes.
  18. How long has this job been open? I haven't seen it posted, but haven't been on here for a week or so. Just wondering. Had Franklin in my tourney down in Florida 5 or 6 years ago. They were very good and outstandingly coached.
  19. I am not a CPA fan or even from Tn., and I see both sides, but for those of you who think the Oak Hills, Huntington Preps etc... play a tough game each night, that is far from the case. HP had 7 or 8 good games out of their 33 this past season and the others were walkovers. The competition in practice will probably be better. The coaching is a ? mark. Not saying it won't be as good, but I have personally sat behind the benches of several of these prep schools and some are very good, some are ok, some not so much. Just because they have great records doesn't mean they are greatly coached. The better coaches are the high school level, not the prep school level. If he wasn't at a school that wasn't already playing in the top hs tourneys and stuff I might see this move as a positive, but I just don't, not in this case or a lot of cases.
  20. The hire at BA got me to thinking about the better coaches in Tn. Hubie & Ricky obviously are both outstanding. I would like to hear others or your opinions. I don't want to hear about recruiting or anyone could win with this or that. How well does a coach do with what he or she has, whether it is great talent (should win big) or not that much (still win & compete, but not at a super high level). Have seen and been impressed with quite a few coaches in Tn., but would love to hear others opinions. I coach in Fl. by the way, so not that familiar except for the few I have seen.
  21. I saw a few of Hubie's teams at Bartlett play and I was IMPRESSED! I think there will be some wars w/Ensworth for sure. Coach Bowers in my opinion is great too! How has Pitts done in college and is he still coaching. He was another who truly impressed me!
  22. Just got through watching my first Southwind game (1 from 2010) online and they sure do create havoc on defense. They are probably not very fun to play against lol. They seem to know where they are supposed to be and what they are supposed to be doing while creating all of that havoc too. Had never heard of their coach so being a coach (in Florida) I was trying to get an idea of how they played etc. Impressive.
  23. Who is supposed to be the best in Memphis and even the whole state. Southwind, Melrose, White Station, Craigmont ??? Just wondering.
  24. Is the talent level gone or just down there? I am not from Tenn. I see that there record this year was 6-22. That is a far cry from what I expected to see as they used to be a top-notch program.
