1st region matchup for Gville.
It seems we play our best ball against JB. I hope to see it again Friday.

I agree, if Gordy cleans up the penalties they could make a deep run but they will need to fix the penalties. IMO
As far as the penalties go, I've watched the film, and many of them were not good calls. The refs didn't have a good night at all.

21-0 - Final - Gordonsville wins!
-
I'll be honest, I expected a Gville win, and it's still not over, but I didn't expect to be 21 up at any point.
It says alot about these kids. They went into the season with only 4 seniors that would likely see significant playing time and 2 others dressed. They're playing with 3 now and only 5 dressed, as one was likely lost for the year in the first game. There has been some freshmen play quite a bit and start, and we're loaded with juniors that many have started since they were freshmen.
All that said, I'll be anxious to see what the refs are seeing when calling all these penalties.

Clay is ranked #9 in 1a. They should easily win this game over a winless westmoreland team! Its homecoming. Just set back and enjoy the festivities
How can you see to deliver the mail through all that smoke you're blowing?

From what I've seen, I think Westmoreland gets the win. If Clay had their QB, I would probably go with them.
Westy is a good team. They'll get one in the W column Friday.

The State championship (two best 1A teams) will be played when the West semifinals are played.
I would tend to agree this year. However, that has been said in the past about the East, and has ended up not being the case, including last year.

Figured this thread would be hopping!2 good playoff teams going at it before they have too!
It's quiet because Gordonsville is overrated and everyone knows it.

Clay is a much different team since the addition of the senior basketball players. Probably one of the most dangerous offensive teams to come through in years now having two lanky wideouts in addition to the speedsters. Losing the QB has hurt their defense though as he is a stellar linebacker.
The only thing about having you best athletes at WR is that it is harder to get them the ball. Adams is good, especially for a freshman, but he's not as capable as Arms. When Arms comes back, they will be more dangerous than they are without him.

We scrimmaged Clay and played Gordy… Trust me… it will be a good game and I’m still thinking Celina will pull it out!
This is not the Celina you remember!
When you scrimmaged Clay, they were at full strength. Gville had some key players not dressed when they played Watertown.
With that said, Clay hasn't been at full strength the last couple of weeks.
We play week 10, and I expect a good one, but I think we'll pull it out.

Clay will beat Gordy this year I believe.
Don't think so.

Not worried about ‘em Postman just stating that they’re better than their record advertises. Overlooking ‘em would be a mistake. As for Monterey, they wouldn’t play us this year when they moved up to 2A. I don’t know why, they’d beaten us regularly as of late.
Monterey wouldn't play Gville either, but they scheduled Pickett...Go figure.
I saw somewhere that Grant Strong is playing. Is that right? What number is he?

Let us know how that works for you after Friday night. Underestimate them.. I promise that’s the first mistake.
No one's underestimating them. All I'm saying is that we've played better competition as a whole, and playing in Coalfield will not overwhelm our players.
I know it will be a good game and I haven't stated otherwise.
-
Smith is greatly improved compared to earlier in the year. I believe this will be a pretty good game. I look forward to seeing how it ends up.
-
Was Clay's starting QB and RB still out?

Asking…. Who has Gordy played?
We've played Smith Co., Watertown, Eagleville, and Stewart Co.
Smith just took Walker Valley to 3 overtimes, while WV beat Carter soundly.
Watertown is a top 10 2A team and possibly a quarterfinal or semi team.
Eagleville is an average 1A team, and Stewart County is an average 3A team.
-
I'm not worried about playing at Coalfield. These boys have won at Watertown and Stewart County this year, and have played at tough places in the past.
Coalfield has only played one decent team, and haven't been tested until last night.
I look for Gville to take care of business.

Was Pickett fielding a team this year? I remember when they were going to fold up and then had that lady coach them.
They were going to, but they quit right before the season started.
-
Gordonsville has filled in their open spot due to Pickett County folding up their football tents by scheduling a trip to Dover, TN.
I know nothing about Stewart County, but I think it should be more of a challenge than Pickett would've been.
-
If Clay has the starters back that were out last week, it will be a mercy rule. It may be one anyway.

It’s a 1st time matchup between both programs. Both are ranked and undefeated. Can Clay County come into Cornersvilles wild environment and steal a game?
Clay Co. is pretty good. As far as athletes, they won't knock anyone's socks off, but they will by the way they play. They'll beat Cornersville.

Is Eagleville back to 1A?
Yes
-
Eagleville comes to Gville for their 3rd ever meeting. Gville won in the semis in 2011 and 2012.
Eagleville is coming off of a big region win against Moore Co., and Gordonsville coming off a bye week, because Oliver Springs cancelled.
I'm not sure how many of Gville's injured will be able to play, but regardless, I look for them handle it.

It is definitely intriguing.

It's still closer than the AP who has Cornersville above Clay after Clay beat them soundly.
