No way gordy would cancel. They could beat OS with their middle school team.

We had several starters quarantined last year when we were scheduled to play Coalfield. We were willing to play with what we had available. Coalfield didn't want to chance it as they jad some region games coming up, but we were willing to play.

  2. It has been said on here already, but a lot of it had to do with Maynard. Whether you like him or not, he was a good coach. If I recall correctly, he took SC to the semis twice. He also took Upperman to the semis in 96, and this was long before Upperman was what it is now.

Since then, some things I heard that went on, or didn't go on, under Dickerson and Murray were headscratchers to me, but the last several years, the teams have been talented but they lacked fire. I believe they have that now.

I think if Dyer is given time, he will do well there.

  3. Here is Sonny Moore's Top 10 in 1A. It will get more accurate as the season goes on, but I think it's pretty close now. As most have been saying, there's a gap between the top 4 and the rest. FWIW, Gordonsville is scheduled to play 3 of the teams in this list.

    23 PEABODY                                    2   0   0   126.50   137.07

    51 FAYETTEVILLE                               2   0   0   117.12   128.97

    55 SOUTH PITTSBURG                            1   1   0    96.24   128.20

    70 McKENZIE                                   2   0   0   103.67   125.02

    125 COALFIELD                                  2   0   0    87.99   114.27

  4. As far as I know, this is the first time these two teams have played, ever. I look forward to seeing a new team.

We have a few non-region games to play before the region games and this is one of them.

I'm thinking some more kids will step up to give some other guys time to heal and be ready to play.

  5. I'll be honest. I didn't think Gville would win. I thought the defense would play well, but we struggled to run the ball last week. Then, we lost 2 starters on the O-line and the 1st backup.

However, some kids stepped up tremendously. Some freshmen made plays on the line on both sides of the ball, and other underclassmen made plays.

We played ALOT of kids. I'm going to go back and see how many, but I would say we played at least 30. That says something when you only have 4 seniors dressed.

  6. I really want to see the Big Blue win this one, but it's going to be tough.

We'll have some key players out, but you play with what you got. Beside that we only have 5 seniors. But, I still think we can win, but it will be tough.

The comment was made that we won't have a chance for another 3-4 years. I promise that's wrong. If we don't win this year, we will next year. But that's next year. Too many have already been look8ng to next year since that group were 8th graders.

One thing I noticed last year that in the past made Gordy seem tougher and intimidating was driving through town all the houses had signs saying “Welcome to the Jungle”, and the team usually ran out to the playing of the song too!  I didn’t see, or hear, that last year.  Why not?

Not sure. Eye of the Tiger is typically what we come out to.

At least Gordy is finally getting the love they never got last year.

I think Gville is top 10, but it's hard to guage exactly where they are as they are young but experienced. We only have 4 seniors that start. The majority of starters are juniors.

We’re you not at Gordonsville in 2011,2012, and 2020 when Pitt came to town? Actually anytime we come to town it’s loud and rowdy. I’m not sure they like us very much.

    You catch on quick.

However, in the late 90s, the place would be even more packed, especially when playing Carthage and Trousdale. Trousdale would be the last game of the season with the region championship on the line.

The problem is he did. Along with everyone else there including you I say. If you was there

Actually, the ref on the sidelines didn't see it as he was turned away running to the goal line. I can't speak for the others.

Regardless, you act like refs never miss calls or let things slide. I know for a fact that there were things Carthage players did that the refs let go, but everyone is harping on one taunt by a Gville player. It was uncalled for,and I hope he learns and doesn't do it again, but I guarantee there were others from the other side.

Everyone acts like Carthage players did absolutely nothing like that, but I can promise you, they, and some of the coaches, did. I won't go into specifics on here, but it happened.

Ive never seen a player allowed to taunt another player until last night in Gordonsville. #14 turned around and gave a SC owl the #1 sign as he crossed the goal line. No penalties thrown

If the ref didn't see it, it didn't happen. :-D
