  1. Big G......did you make it to the game last nite?
  2. Details..........shot count? etc. etc.
  3. You bet I am, too many players and parents I know with CAK not to be there and try and give 'em a hard time. I'm pretty sure we will ban Derry from attending the game....we do have standards at West you know. I'm thinking it will be a good game, but CAK is loaded with offensive weapons. I just have to make sure our keeper gets plenty of rest between now and game time.
  4. West 4 - Lenoir City 0 Hey, that's 7 in a row................not really, but I do like the way it sounds.
  5. She is a hand full, but Catholic has some very good players. It's not as easy just trying to defend reece because they have others that can beat you as well.
  6. It was closer than the score indicates. West's defense was very good at stopping several break-aways. Catholic had one PK midway in the 2nd half that hit the upper right crossbar. West's second goal game late in the game on a Mixon break. Catholic had a slight advantage in shot-on-goal numbers. But again the defense kept West in it. IF and that's a big IF, West can find the right offensive alignment, especially with some of the very capable freshmen, they have a chance against just about anybody.
  7. There is good data that prioperceptive training is beneficial. I'm doubtful that one can train to the point of the characteristics of the 'male' knee. Pelvic width, genetics, hormonal influence, are still going to be factors. Additionally, overall strength plays a role. But the take home message is there are things to do that will lessen the overall risk. I see the big problem as no one will actually take the time to incorporate such a program. I feel that the best thing would be to start this along with an SAQ type program as a routine part of pre-season training, both at the HS level as well as club. Education and parental insistance need to push this thing. It also needs to be done by those who have been trained to instruct, not coaches who just seen it done.
  8. MVM, you are correct, but that is why those teams are ranked. But over non-ranked teams West is 9-0 with 6 of those games shut-outs. I am not campaigning for a better ranking, and mj corrected the obvious. I have no idea where to put West really. But defensively, they're pretty good. As far as Ravenwood is concerned, haven't seen them, but just looking at records they are 5-0-4 against unranked teams, with four of those W's against teams with losing records. And yes that is a nice quality win over a ranked Brentwood team, but they are 1-2-2 otherwise with ranked teams. Should Ravenwood be ranked, I don't know, but I just think with those stats, #4 is too high.
  9. a tie in a 'good soccer game' is one thing, a tie where the defense packs the box and is simply a game of clearing the ball, hoping for that one break-away or lucky goal is a terrible game to watch.
  10. mj, don't know how you can even attempt to rank Maryville above West High. West's overall record is better, and that includes a recent win over Maryville 4-1. Additionally, Ravenwood @ #4 with a 6-2-6 record?!? 4 of the wins are against teams with a losing record. West has played very well against top 10 teams. I usually don't care much for rankings one way or the other, especially when I haven't seen the middle and west teams, but this one is obviously wrong.
  11. Hard to sift through all the different posts..... Knox West 4 @ Maryville 1 (9/20) Knox West 0 vs. Farragut 0 (10/2)
  12. I think there is a difference in 'official games' which would make up the 18 vs. a friendly or a scrimmage which does look like is permitted in the TSSAA rules.
  13. Well I'm looking forward to club getting started. And that all gets started around the first week of Nov. I really don't see why it's locked this time of year anyway, because the younger girls are playing.
  14. Oak Ridge 1 - West 0 Tight game, with West missing at least 3 chances.........just didn't finish. OR score on a break-away that was blocked and rebound knocked in. Only 3 or 4 shots on goal on either side. Good clean game, and congrats to OR.
  15. Sort of a pet peeve of mine. Maybe this will inform and enlighten, or maybe I'll learn something. Anyway, it is my understanding that a SOG(shot on goal) is one that would result either in a score or a save. A simple slow roller that a keeper has a simple pick-up would not be a SOG, simply just a play made. A shot is a legitimate attempt to score, but was not within the frame.....as would be a shot that hits the frame. I realize that at times there may be a slight discrepency in judging, ie. in baseball a hit vs. error, but for the most part some reports do sound somewhat excessive with number of saves credited. Comments?
  16. It is up to the discretion of the ref. Most of the time, if it is a short-arm cast (doesn't include the elbow) and it is wrapped with bubble wrap, and then covered with an elastic bandage or coban it will pass inspection. And of course the doctor's note is needed............and I would also made sure Mom agrees as well /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  17. Maybe all the blame shouldn't be put on the winning teams. Maybe some schools, if they are really going to field a team, should encourage more club team play in the area. Maybe some schools need to invest in a better coach. I do agree that benches should be cleared early on in obvious blow-outs, but I also believe all of those players need to still play the game, including scoring. The only reasonable solution in my mind is the mercy rule.
  18. that's a tounge-in-cheek comment.............refer to the "its just not about scoring" thread
  19. Looks about right, especially since Lenoir City and Karns tied 3-3. I'm not sure how good West is right now, if offensively they start finding the back of the net, they'll be OK. Getting enough shots, just not connecting. The defense is strong, especially considering that West held Bearden scoreless for 60min. and only gave up the final goal with 4 min to go. I think Halls will still give some teams a fit as well. They are much improved.
  20. Dang /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> I've been 'baited' into agreeing with Canes. Good thread and an apparent excellent summation. But now that begs the question, does anything NEED to be done about the runaway scores, or is it just business as usual?
