  1. I agree the Offensive line play was poor. And they were loaded with talent just poorly coached and underdeveloped. If I am Stevens I am replacing the O Line guy. I mean look at the studs we had this year, this O line was loaded with potential and talent. Underachieved, that's to blame on the coach.

  3. Ole Dad, who is your source on this? From what I understand Gray hates Stevens. In fact, last fall he made it a point to talk poorly about kids, coaches, and Oak Ridge football in general to several people. BHS, from what the people in Bearden say they stuck their necks out on the line for the guy and he got the kids to sign petitions and stuff and then left them hanging when the job was offered to him. I don't see this happening, but something has to happen and maybe Coach Stevens has the resolution.
  4. Typical. Typical Oak Ridge fans. I know I am one. We want to praise everyone when we are winning and find a new coach after one loss. The truth is, we didn't play well on Friday night and got beat. DB is a better team right now, and maybe this season, but the Cats are young just like DB was last year and they will get better. Its amazing to read our posts and DB's posts from last year. Last year we beat them good with 5 turnovers and the DB fans were supportive of their players and their staff. Thats what we need to do, but oh no some of you guys can't. You have to gab on and on about your team and your coach, or your expertise because you coach youth league. The truth is these coaches and players work hard. Our community would not tolerate any less. So lay off em and see how the rest of the season goes. Only Oak Ridgers brag about being open minded and then act like idiots at the first sign of disappointment. Be a fan, watch the game, enjoy the game, and root for your team and coaches all the way.
  5. I watched the Ridgers a couple of days ago and they looked to be a little unpolished. From what I have heard and seen of Clinton they are ready for the 4A state championship. The truth is people expect more in a scrimmage from Oak Ridge than Clinton so when Oak Ridge gets thumped by Alcoa and ties AC folks hit the panic button. On the otherside of that coin when Clinton plays tough against Union County look out world, the Dragons are back. We'll see this Friday night. I don't think Oak Ridge is as good as they were last year, but.... they have the potential to be good. Oak Ridge has some experienced players and I think they will get it done. One thing is for sure, that dump of a stadium Clinton has will not intimidate the Cats. Hopefully Clinton will put up a fight and those games will be worth watching again or else OR should drop the Dragons and find somebody more competitive. Oak Ridge 42 Clinton 14
  6. Wow, I didn't mean to spark such a whirlwind. I watched the Alcoa scrimmage and I agree with TnBreakers, this is a team that has been on a successful run since they were young pups, semi finals, state championship game. These boys ain't hungry for success. They think they have it already and that the obvious next step is to win the state, and nothing else has crossed their mind. The only problem is they don't work hard at all. They think they have gotten success already wrapped up and they do not plan to work for it. That's why I predict the 9-3 season. In the past the Cats did not know how to win, now they think they are invincible. In defense of Coach Stevens, he has done a good job of working with these kids, but I do think their weightroom is a joke, always has been a joke, and always will be a joke. I hate to admit it, but if you want to find big, nasty, strong players go to AC. Bingham is tough, Helton is always hurt, and Connor does not have the supporting actor role anymore. He actually has to shine. The Linemen that are returning are ok. I am interested to see what Lane can do this year as a leader without Whaley, Trent and Manning around. Stuart has potential but he always seems to fall short of expectations. He is good size 6'3 270 or so, good feet, strong, but just doesn't play hard all the time. He rests a lot, but maybe thats because he is young. I think he could be tough.
  7. Clinton has some gurus running their Offense and Defense so says the Coonhunter. From what I saw this game could end up in a 3-2 final in extra innings. Neither team seemed great on offense and I think the Gulmire kid maybe exposed a little more without big bro to help shield him. I think Oak Ridge wins, but the Clintonians are right the year of the Dragon is soon. Just not this year. Oak Ridge 28 Clinton 17 Big disappointment to the Ridgers and sends their season to a 8-2 or 7-3 second round exit. Now that is my glum prediction. If the coaches get things going this week and the players are able to see Clinton never was and will not be a 74 pt. dog this year than I think we should have a better outcome. Its tough to get ready for a team like Clinton and for the boys at OR not think walk in the park, but they better not because the boys from Clinton may hold onto the ball long enough to keep OR off the field and if thats the case it could go either way. Look for Stevens to go deep down the field all night long, its his M.O. and look for Maryville High School Jr. (aka Clinton's offense) to mix it up. The real match will be the two young guys from Clinton vs. the two young coordinators from Oak Ridge. Talent = Oak Ridge Coaching in the Past = Oak Ridge Coaching right now = slight advantage Oak Ridge, but if these young guns are that is advertised, who knows? Outcome of the game = Oak Ridge by 28
  8. I watched the Oak Ridge practice yesterday and I am going again this afternoon. Both sides of the ball have had moderate improvement since the Alcoa scrimmage, but nothing significant. The defense is very fast, but they run all over the dad gum place like a chinese fire drill. Plus the defensive line is soft like the Keebler elves. That is going to have to be fixed by next Friday. I watched Coach Stevens on his show last night and he talked about a lack of focus against Alcoa. Well there's only one group of people who can get them boys to focus, the coaches. Don't pin it on the kids coach. The offense is coming along, but we can't block up front very well. The runningbacks look good, but they are not as fast as advertised and the Miller kid is going to be a stud, he runs great especially on the fade. Connor is the only thing that is consistent about this bunch. I think the offense will look good against Clinton and be exposed against DB. We are Oak Ridge, run the dad gum ball, period. There should be at least 40 carries a game, this year we think we are BYU or some Norm Chow style guru offense crap, run the ball.
  9. Oak Ridge is going to rebuild a little this year. I know I know, we have Connor back and a slew of receivers, but up front its Lane and Stuart, both good players, but we are green everywhere else. Someone told me that we were starting a soph. at right tackle? I guess there is a lack of seniors or a movement to the youth at OR. We have two brand new coordinators, Scotsdale and Miner, and who knows what they are going to do. I am going to watch practice this afternoon and I will be able to tell you a little bit more. I think the game with Clinton will be a war, because a dog can only take enough beatings before it bites back. Oak Ridge 42 Clinton 28 Too close for many Ridgers.
  10. I went by the OR practice yesterday. They look tired and they were loafing all over the place. The coaches got into them pretty good, had a gang of them running after practice. We are gonna be okay against Clinton and Bradley, the real test is when DB rolls into town. Those boys are tough, I don't know if our wild kittens will be ready, but I have been wrong before.
  11. Actually not to be picky it was 28-7 in 1997. Clinton showed their true colors that night and tore down OR's goal post, what a class act over there? I think you are right however. Expect this year's Clinton vs. O.R. game to be close. Oak Ridge is not as good as advertised and Clinton is better than advertised. Oak Ridge 21 Clinton 17
  12. I am a first time poster on here and I found about the site at work. I have known about it for a while and thought it was juvenile to do, but after yesterday I thought I would say a little something. I watched the scrimmage yesterday and Tank says it best. We were simply outplayed at every position. If Alcoa doesn't win the state in 2A it is a crime. They are going to go 15-0 mark it down, yes and even beat Maryville. They are physical, strong, fast, and they are disciplined more than any Alcoa team I have ever seen. I was embarassed as an Oak Ridger yesterday. They beat us so bad that their first team was doing sprints at the end of the scrimmage. Quarterback played okay considering he was sacked 2009 times. The Offensive line couldn't punch a hole through a paper bag. They looked timid and Rae Sykes ate their lunch all day long. That got out of hand quickly. Maybe its a personnel issue because there were shades of success during the scrimmage. The receivers routes looked bad and they dropped some balls they should have caught. Our offense looked good on the first drive and that little fullback played with guts. He made a run that was simply amazing he must have broken 6 tackles, he just would not go down. He is all heart and tough as nails. I like him. Our offense needs some help here and there and some changes here and there and we should be good to go, but our defense is another story. **** News Update **** All major news networks report that Shiverdecker has broken free from the clutches of the Oak Ridge defense and continues to run untouched four his 4,000th touchdown of the scrimmage. Maybe the defense wanted to lull him in with some moderate success and then at the end of the scrimmage pounce on him for being overconfident. I don't know if the Cats are going to be the Darkside defense this year, but if they are open to a new name I've got it. The Swiss Cheese, there are more holes in that defense than a slice of swiss cheese. Number 14 looked tough yesterday he took a shot and got back up, he will be able to play. The secondary looks great, if running away from the guy with the ball is the objective, so all we have to do now is find a sport that the goal is to run away from the ball. The Venable kid was all that is advertised, he is quick, strong and flows to the ball well. Take him off the defense and Shiverdecker scores 3 or 4 more times. The guys are not ready right now. Alcoa is great and may be the best team in the state in all classifications, but Oak Ridge better figure something out soon or else the Dragons may make a game out of it.
