  6. Wow, I just looked back at my Aug. 2009 post in this thread---a year can certainly make a difference! You still with us muffin?
  7. Thank YOU! I'll be looking for it!
  8. Yep. Starts tomorrow (Sunday, June 27) and runs through July 10th.
  9. Anyone know if the dates for the 2011 Gibbs tournament have been set yet?
  10. Was curious to know if either the Eastman or Science Hill tournament was scheduled for Easter weekend, so I did a quick search. Neither does! Easter Sunday falls later in the calendar for 2011---April 24th. Just wanted to throw that out there for all coaches beginning to make tentative tournament schedules!
  11. Appears that Stone Memorial is searching for a head coach. Anyone have any info/knowledge of the state of the program there Thanks in advance!
  12. No, Coach, there was no dead ball situation that occured on ball four. Thanks again, and good luck to your team also. ---rSquared (Union Co.)
  13. Thanks Coach H. and teeballexpert! I was almost certain that the umpire had made the wrong call, but I couldn't find anything certain about it in the rule book when I checked. Just so no one gets the wrong idea, judging by my listed coacht "location," this was not a Knoxville association official. It was an official from the Jefferson association. Certainly don't want to give the official's name here, but maybe I should give Arnaz Cantrell, the assigning officer, a call to let him know which official needs to learn from this mistake! Thanks again guys, ---rSquared
  14. I've always seen it called, for many years now, that a runner CAN advance to second on a walk (situation: there is a runner on third) provided that she does not stop running. This happened in a game this week in which we were playing and our runner was told to go back to first because the pitcher had the ball in the circle. We argued, but to no avail. I have since tried to find this matter addressed in the rule book, but have thus far been unsuccessful. The umpire that made this call is very unreliable and his home plate partner just simply admitted that he wasn't sure! Any help from the softball gurus? Coaches, umpires, etc??? Thanks in advance!
  15. Shane Brown, the head coach at the school where I teach/coach interviewed for this position at Scott last week. He would be a great hire for the Highlanders, having had coaching experience at the college level in Indiana before coming to Union Co. a year ago. I would really hate to see him leave Union Co. after just one year, but his wife is from Scott Co. so I'm sure it will be tempting for him if offered the position. He is also currently acting as our AD for the rest of this school year, so we would actually lose a good PE teacher, coach, and interim Athletic Director!
  16. We (Union Co.) haven't yet heard anything on this tournament as far as a pool play schedule, etc. Is the tournament still going to be played? Just wanted to check so that we'd still have time to pick up some games in the event the tournament isn't taking place. ???
  17. "However, when the head coach does question a judgement call (thereby violating a BOOK rule), he should be the only one on the team to do it. The assistant/first base coach's job is to tell a runner to go to 2nd or to get back on a pickoff attempt or to take batting gloves. PERIOD!" glock: Are you serious? If you are, then you have either never been a coach (head or assistant), or obviously have never been a GOOD coach if you think this is an accurate description of an assistant coach. Trust me, it goes FAR beyond the sad picture you have painted!
  18. Goose: Rule No. 1 NEVER underestimate the power of SNOW!
  19. Chait was hired, but was only on the job a week or so before he either resigned or was relieved of his duties, depending on who you ask. No details---I just know that we are once again looking for a new football coach at Union Co.
