  1. I figure there probably has been or are ways to contribute. Shoot, someone could probably just drop by the field house and talk to coach Julian about it. I'm sure he'd inform them on ways to help out.
  2. Last I heard they hired from within staff to replace Coach Williams who is now the new OC. I don't know if that means they have another position still open or not. I think after Coach Polston decided to move on to being baseball only they still had another position open then, but I'm not real sure about that being filled or not and if it was filled then I guess it was Coach Hassell who filled it, but like I said I don't really know for sure. Hassell may have been on staff already. As for the new field house I believe you heard right because that is what I have been hearing. Anyone know why it's been put off again? I thought the money was there to at least get these kids room to lift and the new location on campus wasn't in a designated flood plane this time either. ZCAR, Ironman, anyone know what's up?
  3. I noticed towards the end of the year last year that Halls seemed to run out of the shotgun a bit...kind of looked like a spinning offense from the action of the QB. Is Halls moving towards more of that or what?
  4. This is a sad day in Red Devil land. Coach Ward will be greatly missed. Best of luck Coach
  5. Now that would be interesting. Hey, if it happens then we can't complain. Just have to prepare for one of the hardest schedules ever thought of. LSMFT where'd you hear this? I haven't heard this myself...not that I'm the most connected person, but usually something this big is a little more heard of. Maybe I need to get out of the house more often. It would make for some larger crowds at the bigger schools in the knoxville area probably since the premier programs would be at it again and more often, that being the 4As and 5As in the Knoxville area playing each other more often. It also would leave out really good teams come playoff time unless the Knoxville area has enough schools according to the T$$AA to have 2 regions of the new 4a football. An east region and a west if you will. Or a north and a south. Even if this is just a rumor it does have an interesting look to it
  6. I'll take a stab at Defense..I might be off, but here's how I see it DE - Caleb Leonard DE - Micah Bolden (look for Burton here as well) DT - Steven Hill (someone will have to fill in here a lot I think, maybe the Shaddix kid?) DT - Ben McFalls (Look for Laddish to likely start here somewhere when all is said and done, possibly in place of Steven Hill. I just wasn't sure where to pencil Laddish in at) (All D linemen above are probably interchangeable to situations and opponent as Coach Hassell likes everyone of his linemen to be able to play any position) MLB - Daniel Hodge SLB - Dorian Cottrell (look for Jonathan Case to back up here if he doesn't win the starting position at either inside backer position) SS - Cory Fitzpatrick (maybe McGill again?) WS - Kevin Waggoner (Josh Hillard to fill in quite a bit sense Waggoner appears to be in line to get the majority of touches at RB this coming season.) CB - Chris McGill and Garrett Gresham (also Chad Bright started against South Doyle I think, so look for him more in the secondary this year) FS - Brandon Johnson (and Tyler Turner) All of this is assuming that Halls uses the same scheme that I think I saw most of last year. I think they will have a lot of people rotating on defense more this year than last year as the sophomores will be juniors and more prepared than they were as sophs. That's class is very talented as is this Senior Class. I've been hearing some good things about a couple of the rising sophomore linemen. Maybe they will be able to contribute somewhere this year. It just seems easier for a linemen to adjust a lot of the time than a skill guy. Anyone heard anything on the O'Laughlin kid (sp?). I figured he would play into some of the offensive scheming by the Big Red this year. Also, I think Ben McFalls will start somewhere on the Oline this coming season, so perhaps that is your LT position Ironman. All in all, I see the defense probably rotating around 20-25 guys.
  7. I've heard that Halls has had some players come out who weren't on the team last year, any truth to that?
  8. If all 4 or 5 of those super soph's you had this year will come back again you all should be in for a lot better year. You all had an outside shot at the playoffs at week 7 or 8 I think and it's been a while since even that has happened, no offense to you guys. So, I look for this year to be where Clinton makes a serious run at 4th in the region probably. You just have to get those Clinton people behind the program and convince them to forget everything that goes on politically in the school system. If you all find one or two good offensive/defensive linemen, look out regioin 3-4a. I think you all are close. I just hope Halls is good enough to stay above you guys. Good luck
  9. What about the Leonard kid down at Knox Halls? Heard he was voted co-lineman of the year with Douglas of Maryville by region 3-4a.
  10. 400-500 hours? You must be talking about in season hours. Most coaches (head coaches at least) also devote between 2 and 3 hours every day in the off season to lifting and running etc. I had a former coach tell me when he figured all the time he put into coaching football that we was working for between 5 and 10 cents per hour. If he didn't want to have an impact on the kids and didn't love the game, then he wouldn't do it. Most coaches out there just enjoy the time with students and influencing people lives...and then whatever money they get is well appreciated. Would they like more, sure. Who wouldn't?
  11. Halls returns 3 on the offensive line, their TE #45, 1 RB #23 who averaged over 10 a carry most of the year, not sure about stats as I lost track of them later on and their qb. look for #10 Gresham to be their feature WR who also started as a DB this year as a sophomore. Speaking of defense, Halls returns 4 players in the secondary that started at one point, #4, #2(if healthy), 10 and 37. At strong/weak safety Halls will be returning 2 starters also and I think Hodge, #32 at inside backer and Cottrell #45 played there a lot also. Up front on D Halls will return stud #62 Caleb Leonard and late bloomer #42 Pix. I think sophomore Mcfalls got in their some as well. So, overall Halls has a really good core coming back this coming year. Yes, they lose Kitts, but I think the RB by committee method they'll probably adopt will be adept enough to really give teams fits. And Gresham could be better than Dayton at WR possibly if he works hard. I think next year looks to be as good if not better than this year. Only time will tell...and of course if the players work hard in the off season.
  12. you know if that's a done deal? that probably would be a good thing I would say because doesn't south run the spread attack some? I know Halls saw some of that this season with some zone option stuff.
  13. I heard that Knox Halls might be playing Maryville week 0 next year. Any truth to that at all?
  14. I've heard rumors both ways about Qualls...one says he's not applied, another saying he had. So, which is it? Can anyone confirm for sure? That's good to hear about those 3 guys getting some looks. I didn't know Hughes was getting any looks at all. Good for him.
  15. Little Man, can you give us all the names you've heard that might be interested in the job? I wouldn't think that several coaches would apply for it from the same school because that could lead to some disgruntled feathers if none of them get it. Not saying that would be the case, but it could I guess. As for players playing next year, I really think Wes Kitts could. Now whether he gets the attention or not I don't know. I've heard he could also play soccer at the collegiate level. Another rumor I've heard is that Dayton is being recruited as a DB at a couple schools. Not sure about that, if anything I figure he'd go lower divisions as a WR. Can anyone clear any of this up?
  16. any chance Halls incorporates some of the spread stuff next year like where they handed the ball off to Kitts a few times in the Red Bank game when it was only him and turner in the shotgun formation?
  17. Sounds like they're reloading. I'm sure Burnette will be tough to replace or at least that is some really big shoes to fill next year. As for Halls, any idea on the OL next year? Who's going to replace 3 year starter Blair and 2 year starter Plunk? What about Linebackers? Any rising sophs. that can help?
  18. when's the team going to be able to start working out?
  19. how's the scoring been happening? some of us are unfortunate and can't be at the game.
  20. Everyone's always talking about that wing-T Halls runs, but from the games I've been at this year it seems to me as if they might be in that base wing-T look 30-40% of the time, if that. How many of the traditional wing-T plays does Halls run? I know Webb pretty much runs the crossbuck, fb trap and waggle it seems, but I don't really see a whole lot of that out of Halls. Seems to me as if Halls might be more of a power team than the deceptive looks a defense would get from the traditional wing-T and hiding the football like Webb and Catholic. Last Friday night it seemed as if Halls ran a different play every play. Maybe they were the same play and just out of a different formation, i don't know. I do remember seeing them in a pro set, twins set, some double wing shotgun set(whatever you call that), in that ol' wing-T set, the mirror set and maybe even trips. I can't really remember all they did, but they were in a lot of different formations it seemed. Heck, I think they even got into the power I there late in the game. I know that's probably only about half the formations they used the other night and who knows what all the different looking plays were. So, with that being said, that's a lot to try and prepare for as an opposing team. And with all the different ways they can get the ball to their play makers I would look for Halls to score quite a few points. They did put up 30 on Maryville 3 weeks ago. The question becomes as to whether Halls can defend the pass of Red Bank. I saw in the paper today that Red Bank has a receiver who's caught over 1500 yards worth of passes for like 14 or 15 TDs. That kid could be the difference in the game.
  21. R&B, you going to make it out to any of the games this week?
  22. I dont know about how everyone else at the game felt, but it seemed to me as if Halls decided to finally play there mid 3rd quarter last Friday night. They were down 22-10 and then woke up and won 30-22. Personally I think Halls should have won that game by 2 or 3 scores, but they just weren't into the game for whatever reason. Perhaps getting the home playoff game lulled the Halls players into thinking they didn't really need to put forth much effort to win. I hope they show up against Red Bank from the opening whistle of the first half, not the second.
  23. If Halls is going to have a shot against Red Bank, then they better have an offensive performance like they did against Maryville and a defensive performance like they did the last 15 minutes against Cleveland, except for 48 minutes. Otherwise, Red Bank will win. Halls better practice this week like it'll be their last and they better play Friday night with the intensity as if it were for a championship.
  24. This one may come down to whoever has the ball last. I hope not, but it just might
  25. i just hope they don't have to put the mercy rule into effect. Maryville should roll!
