  1. Update... Eric Hutchinson will play at QB for GP but will not play free safety on defense. Taylor Ogle will again fill in for Hutch at free safety and Chase Young will be back at Wide Receiver and Cornerback. I understand that GP is concerned about South Greenes QB keeper play where they fake to the backs going to the short side and roll the QB out to the wide side. Supposedly the SG QB is very good at hiding the ball on fakes. They also throw some off this formation. Alot of big games this weekend. Let's enjoy as this season will be over before we know it.
  2. Gatlinburg-Pittman has a unsurpassed setting of the Great Smoky Mountains looking into the South endzone, a beautiful field and brick stadium seating on both sides of the field, a digital scoreboard, and 25 second game clocks in both endzones.
  3. GP Highlanders travel to meet the SG Rebels in a matchup that probably will decide the champions of Region 1 -2A. Things to ponder: GP is 6-0 and is averaging about 42 ppg and giving up about 14 ppg, while SG is 3-3 and is averaging about 17 ppg and giving up about 17 ppg. SG has played a more challenging schedule as all three of their losses have been to upper division schools.( 4A Cocke Co., undefeated 4A Daniel Boone, and 3A Rutledge) SG beat 4A Unicoi Co. GP is 3-0 in Region 1-2A and SG is 2-0 in Region 1-2A. The only common opponent so far is Chuckey-Doak with GP winning at CD 39-0 and SG winning at home against CD 35-18. GP is hoping to get their starting QB/FS Eric Hutchinson back for this game and most likely returning is starting WR/C Chase Young. Both have had leg injuries. According to Prep Performance ratings by Earl Nall released today(10/1), GP is a favorite to win. But the teams will decide this game and not a rating system. SG/GP games that I have attended have been relatively close in score and hard fought on both sides. Can any Rebel fans give us a team update and opinions? Good Health and GO GP!
  4. It now appears that GP will again be without Eric Hutchinson at Free Safety/QB and Chase Young at Cornerback/WR. Young will get work at WR and possibly corner if absolutely needed. Hutchinson will not play this week. Coaches are trying to get both healthy enough for the showdown at South Greene Friday week. Forecasts for Fridays game time are clear and cool with temps in the low fifties. Starting to really feel like football time. Go GP make it 6 in a row!
  5. Actually, the teams they have beaten are a rousing 1-25 combined. Still pitiful.
  6. What a difference a year makes. Hard work and desire can overcome much and the boys at GP are deserving of the recognition they are beginning to receive. This week North Greene pays a visit to the Mountain Thicket with hopes of a upset. GP has become a strong running offense, but in my opinion they need to work at developing a sincere passing attack for the occasions that come when the other team is putting 8-9 in the box or the opponent has dominating defensive line play. It will be tough to work on this this week with QB Eric Hutchinson out with a ankle injury. Look for GP to remain grounded considering that Hutchinsons replacement Taylor Ogle got off to a somewhat inauspicious debut passing last week. (Threw 3 passes with two interceptions.) According to Earl Nall Prep Performance rating GP is a heavy favorite. The D needs a good performance as they have not been as strong the last two weeks as they were the first three weeks. They are really banged up in the secondary and will be missing one and possibly two starters. Any thoughts?
  7. It now appears that GP's CB will not be able to play as he is still limping badly from his knee injury last Friday night. Eric Hutchinson will slide over into the CB position from FS and Taylor Ogle will play the FS. Heres hoping that neither team suffers any injury. Go GP!! MAKE IT 5 IN A ROW.
  8. It is appears Hutch will be ready to go , but the CB hyper-extended his knee and it was very swollen over the weekend , but now the swelling has almost subsided. He is practicing in a knee brace and will most likely play Friday barring further injury. Whether he will be at full speed remains somewhat doubtful, but the kid is extremerly gutsy. He will manage for sure. Without looking too far ahead, it appears that GP's showdown at South Greene on Oct. 6 is looming larger and larger. Both of South Greenes losses have been to upper division schools, D.Boone & Rutledge, which are two pretty good football teams. South Greene will most likely be unbeaten in Reg.1-2A when GP comes calling. It will take a complete effort by GP to beat SG on its home field. The game will most likely be for the region champs. Oh well, thats down the road a piece, so lets enjoy what is at hand. Regards.
  9. GP will handle a winless Greenback team. Greenback has not been the same since Coach Satterfield left. They were very good team under Satterfield. Happy Valley is alot better team than their record indicates. Their QB has the most accurate arm on long balls of any QB that GP has faced so far. What hurt GP the most against HV is injuries in their secondary. Hutchinson did not play at FS because of a lingering ankle injury although he played QB. A GP corner hurt his knee in the first quarter returning a punt and had a very visible limp, but continued to play with the injury which slowed him down. Hopefully GP will be back to strength against Greenback. I also heard today that a pass caught by a GP WR was a TD and that the film clearly shows him coming down in bounds in the endzone with the pass, but was ruled out by a ref that was out of position to make the call. I believe that play was in the fourth quarter and would have given GP a little more breathing room. Oh well, all teams must overcome adversity and HV furnished more than most thought would occur. GP was flat after a big blow out win over a county rival. I hear Greenback likes to throw it around and that always makes for some good entertainment one way or another. That failed onsides kick by GP late in the fourth hurt them and probably would not be done again if it could be done over. It is shaping up as a very good year for GP.
  10. Zack Schrandt went to Davidson College on a ROTC scholarship. He played football for them briefly, but not on a "athletic scholarship". He is currently enrolled at the Univ. of Tenn.
  11. Paul has done a tremendous job at QB. Especially considering the fact that he has not played football since his freshman year. I think that is testament to how things have been done at PF up until now. With that being said, Paul is a drop back passer, not a spread option QB. The spread is best run by a quick, athletic QB i.e. in the mold of Vince Young. Paul Harper comes from a fine family and he is finally getting some due that he should have had coming some time earlier in his high school career. I wish Paul the very best and I hope he can get a football scholarship somewhere, if not he is a very good academic student and will do well where ever he goes to college. PF has to be the worst politically affected football team in ET. Their pricipal has set the program back for years. In my opinion, the very first coach they hired was the best. He won four(4) games his first year with out a senior class. He won four the second year and then two the third year and that is the reason the principal ran him off(not to mention that his(principals) son was also on that team and he felt he should be a QB. He just was not given enough time. The principal always uses the excuse that the coach was not being a good person. Thats a crock. Just because you use an occasional curse word and ocassionally get in a players face does not make you a bad person. As we all know , football is a very tough sport. Yes, I kind of rubbed the GP game in a little to the PF folks, but I want you to know that I was a PF fan before I was a GP fan until I could not stand to see how the principal was jerking the program around any more and the fact that I now have relatives playing for GP. PF could be a very sound program if it could ever attain any stability, but that wont happen until there are some administrative changes. Think about this, both Sevier Co. High School and GP have players starting for them that went to PF middle school and played football at pf middle. Very good atheletes that could be now making a difference at PF, but elected to go elsewhere due to the unstable atmosphere in PF athletics. That absolutely stinks and there is not much at this time that we can do about this. All that can be done is to let it run its course.
  12. Could I get you some sharp cheddar cheese to go along with your classic whine?
  13. Gatlinburg Pittman 45 pigeon forge 12 First Observation; GP was much, much more physical than pf. Second, pf does not have any clue what defense is or how to tackle. Third, you cannot run a spread offense SUCCESSFULLY with a immobile quarterback. Fourth, To BigBlue: Where was GP's supposedly weak pass defense? pf completed 44% of passes for a paltry 164 yards. NONE down the field! pf's best play was a middle slip screen to its slots or backs. BigBlue says it doesnt matter what type of atheletes you have if you sit in the zone all night in the secondary. I say BAH HAA HAA. Now tell another one!!!! That was a good one !!! Fifth, eagle 3314 says BigBlue knows more about EVERY defense than just about anyone in ET. I say BAH HAA HAA, thats another good one!!! Finally, to beefinbox; who says the GP offense was predictable. It was! Gp sweeps left...touchdown.....GP sweeps right....touchdown....GP up the middle..touchdown... GP passes on the right boundary....touchdown...GP passes on the left boundary....touchdown. Beef says GP has a simple pass defense that should be easy to exploit. The pf offense scored one touch down on the GROUND on a second half drive after the game was decided. The drive was aided by 40 yards in penalties against GP. tidbits: pf had a minus 19 yards in rushing. GP had 453 yards in offense to pf's 164. pf had 7(SEVEN) PERSONAL FOUL PENALTIES. This speaks volumes about the pigeon forge coaching staff. Glad things are back to normal!!!
  14. Thanks for responding Big Blue. So you are saying GP has a "lack of pass defense" based on the type of defense they run in the secondary? In other words you really do not know that GP is weak in the secondary but you think they will be because they only run a 2 or 3 deep. Hmmm... I see that Sonny Moore's Power Rating(since 1974) has G-P as a 11+ point favorite. One can visit Moore's website by going to Coach T's home page and on the left side under "site info" scroll to websites, click and scroll down to Sonny's Moore Rankings. Also, Earl Nall's prep performance rating has GP by about the same margin as Sonny Moore. These are certainly not perfect predictors but more often than not they are close with exceptions like Tellico Plains shocking upset of PF on PF's homefield. I guess that is why we play the game. Speaking of, I heard Prep Footballs Bill Dyke say today on the Dewey Warren Show(AM 850 1-3 PM), that Tellico Plains victory over PF was the biggest upset in 3A football so far this year. He also mentioned the upcoming "rivalry" game between PF and GP. He did not make a prediction but said PF was 0-3 and that Benny Hammonds had a very good and "physical" ball club. Should be an exciting and hard fought game on both sides. My one wish is that players from neither side suffer any serious injury.
  15. That response makes no sense. Predictable offense? Yes everyone knows GP will run the ball since they average over 300 yards per game. Predictable defense? This one really makes no sense. Yes PF knows what base defense GP runs but that does not guarantee success for PF. PF will be playing the run but that does not mean they can stop it. The original question to BigBlue was about HIS statement of GP having a weak pass defense. Maybe BigBlue knows something that one cannot derive from the previous two game statistics. I am interested in HIS response. The question was politely addressed to Big Blue, but BinB must think either BigBlue is incapable of addressing this or either BinB is the PF board police. I would suspect that BigBlue is quite capable.
  16. Big Blue, what do you know about the G-P pass defense that the statistics are not bearing out? What I am saying is that Oliver Springs completed 1(one) pass for little yardage and Chuckey completed 7 of 18 for 99 yards(less than 40%). That appears fairly sound. What do you mean by "lack of pass defense" ?
  17. P.F. cannot keep a coach because of their stumbling, fumbling, bumbling principal who has run off 2 head football coaches and several assistants, 1 basketball coach and several assistants. They are a relatively new High School(5years old). He likes to be called coach but evertime I ever saw him get involved with coaching in the last ten years it has been disastrous. Typical bubba.
  18. Gatlinburg-Pittman appears to have regained its form and dominance of 1-2A football with a dominating performance at Oliver Springs last night. G-P had nearly 400 yards of offense with over 300 rushing yards and allowed O.S. just one pass completion in defeating the Bobcats 28-7 on O.S. homefield. G-P held the bobcats to less than 100 yards in total offense. Most impressively is the way they contained Lynn Haynes(over 1600 rushing yards in '05.) one of the top backs in the state. Line play for G-P was powerful offensively and defensively, but it was the play and support of a very physical G-P secondary that really shut down Oliver Springs. Look for a very big season from G-P.
  19. As I said in post #2, G-P pounds their way back in 2-A with a power running game and a strong secondary. The Highlanders had over 300 rushing yards and O.S. completed only 1 pass. G-P handled o.s. for the most part.
  20. G-P pounds their way back in 2-A with a power running game and a very strong secondary.
