  1. One other thing... Of the 14 points JCS scored against Milan one was a Kickoff return so change that to 7 points against the actual defense. In the two high scoring affairs against USJ and JCS Milan was also missing some key defensive backs if I am not mistaken...
  2. As a JCS fan I have to correct something on behalf of the Bulldogs... Don't let the 211 points mislead you. I'm not certain about the Camden game but I know the regular season games against USJ and JCS were legitimate points because they were Milan's first run-in with spread offenses... But they still won... After adjusting and working on the game plan Milan completely shut JCS down in the second game. We scored 14 legitimate points but the other 14 were against the 2nd or even 3rd string defense with our first string offense still in the game. Looking at Milan's scores is very deceiving. In those games where Milan had a huge advantage almost all the points scored were in the 4th quarter against the 2nd and 3rd string defense. Look at the box scores and see how many points Milan has given up in the 4th Quarter. It is because Coach Morris is a class act and doesn't worry about shutouts I assure you they could have pitched a whole lot of shutouts. Some of the teams that scored one and two touchdowns against them couldn't have gotten 5 first downs over the course of the game against their defense. That being said---Please note: I know that USJ and JCS are not Alcoa! I do not expect a shutout against Alcoa! I'm just saying don't judge Milan's defense by points allowed. That is more of a reflection on the character of the coach than the reality of their defense. Now as for comparing their defense to Maryville I'm sure that is not exactly what he meant... He probably did mean you are playing the best defense since Maryville which you probably are... I think Milan has a tall order (Alcoa you are without a doubt a machine!!!) but I know Milan will be well-prepared, as will Alcoa. I'm not predicting a winner but I will be at the game... Hopefully, someone can furnish me with a Milan sweatshirt--- I'll be there with my JCS blue hat and a Milan sweatshirt... If someone sees Alton Coleman tell him his preacher is looking for a Milan Sweatshirt... Speaking of Defense: Christian Coleman I'm proud of you---You are the man!!! I'm so happy my son graduated last year and didn't have the privilege of getting hit by you...
  3. JCS congratulates Milan!!! I'm exicted that you guys were able to get the win... Stay Humble... Focused... Take Care of Business!!! You have a great team with great balance... I want to especially congratulate a member of the church where I preach---(I'm proud of this young man so I had to add that...) Christian Coleman... Great Young Man... Great Family!!! A Beast!!! With a great future in any sport he wants to play!!! I've already got dibes on being his agent in the future! Congrats Christian!!! Your family at Campbell Street says go Bulldogs!!! I missed the game tonight but I don't plan on missing the game next week... I'll try to get a Milan Sweatshirt for the game but I will have to wear my JCS baseball cap so everyone knows that the Eagles are going purple this week!!!
  4. I expect it to be a high scoring affair too... Another Oklahoma State-Missouri matchup... But it could end up like that game and surprise us all... The Oklahoma State-Missouri game was supposed to be in the 40's... maybe even 50's... It ended up being 28-23... Sometimes two high-powered offenses neutralize each other and you end up with a surprisingly low score... To most teams 28-23 is not low-scoring... But it was by far the lowest scoring game for the two of them... Oklahoma State came in averaging 52.6 a game and giving up 23 while Missouri was averaging 53.4 and giving up 25... A recipe for at least a 45-42 game... Bottom line, and not to be cliche, about it but this game will come down to who makes the least mistakes... Right now that edge would have to go to USJ... JCS should be a one loss team too... Unfortunately they have made their biggest mistakes in big games and situations... Two fumbles inside their own 20 against Westview and an interception in the redzone---also a punt return for a touchdown... Two kickoff returns for touchdowns against Milan... They are without a doubt the most talented 3-4 team in the state in their classification... With their backs against the wall---and the rivalry added it makes for a great game!!! Go Eagles!!!
  5. Baddawg... Thanks for the in game information... I'm a JCS fan in Atlanta... Feel like I was there after reading this... Sounds like I have reason to be proud of our Eagles!!! Two kickoff returns---two touchdowns... Milan, give your special teams a game ball... Solid team all the way down to the special teams... Good luck the rest of the way Bulldogs... Eagles I'm afraid that the losses to TCA and Westview have put us in a predicament but I know you can do whatever it takes!!! Keep your heads up high!!! Your 3-4 record is no indicator of how good you are!!!
  6. Wow... Disregard last post I'm out of town in Atlanta... I didn't know they were playing tonight and the game would be over before I finished... Congrats... Bruins...
  7. I'm a JCS fan. Just want to say that I really respect the Westview coach, team and fans. JCS could not stop the Westview running game. Offensively, they ran over the Eagles. However, just because the score was 33-13 does not mean that Westview stoppped JCS. They never stopped them. JCS had 215 yards rushing. Will Johnson had 6 carries for 89 yards that is not stopping... That is 14 yards a carry. He sat out the 2nd and 3rd quarter with an elbow injury. Carried the ball on the first play of 4th quarter for 31 yards then didn't go back in... JCS had more total yardage than Westview. Only punted twice. They had two unforced bad snaps inside their own 20 leading to two red zone scores for Westview. JCS also threw an interception inside the redzone... Even Westview's coach said "we didn't stop JCS they stopped themselves." I don't know that we would have won but we weren't stopped. JCS averaged 11 yards a play. My point is if USJ plays mistake free ball it could be a long night for the Westview defense. The Westview run game will grind it out... Westview did dominate the time of possession against JCS--- 30 minutes to 18... That is what they do best and what they will have to do to USJ... Good Luck to both teams... USJ 35 Westview 28
  8. Why don't you just add 3 points to your prediction and make it 52-17 in honor of the Missouri Tigers thumping of the great Nebraska Huskers in Lincoln...
  9. Westview did not shut Will Johnson down. He only carried the ball 6 times and he got 89 yards I don't call that shutting down...That is 14 yards a carry. He hurt his elbow in that game and sat out most of the second and third quarter... JCS had more total yards than Westview. JCS fumbled twice inside their own 20 leading to easy Westview scores. (Give Westview credit for taking advantage of them) They also threw an interception in the red zone. The score in no way indicates the closeness of that game. JCS had 317 yards total offense and Westview 311. The first three games combined Will Johnson only carried the ball 21 total times--- Don't ask me why but he still averaged around 9-10 yards a carry. The last three they have been much more balanced. He carried 17 times for 179 yards against Gibson County. 18 times for 138 against Trinity and 22 times for 216 yards against Humboldt. JCS averages 172 yards rushing a game and 187 yards passing. That's about as balanced as you get... At one point in the Gibson County game JCS had 240 yards rushing and 241 yards passing with 9 rushing first downs and 9 passing first downs. No predictions on the game... Just hope the Eagles from the Gibson County, Humboldt game show up and not the ones from the Trinity game... Just wanted to set the record straight on a few things... I'm going to be in Atlanta... I can't believe that the one game I'm missing all year is this one... At least I will be laughing at Jeff Foxworthy during the game... Go Eagles!!! Milan, we've loved being in this Region... Even if we do get whipped every once in a while... It has been an exciting playoff atmosphere every week... Great football... If the TSSAA hadn't moved us out of this region into insanity we'd be staying D-1 without a doubt... Hate it but it is the way it is...
  10. We moved to Tennessee two years ago today. My son Isaac was going to run away and go back to Florida. He wouldn't leave his room. I made him play summer ball with the baseball team---his attitude got a little better---then I made him play football... He played on a State Championship football team his first year in football. He got to the State Championship in baseball. His first year here he played in two state championships. That doesn't happen very often. By the end of the year his best friends were the boys in the class of 2008. He was accepted like he had gone to JCS forever. Then this year he had the opportunity to thrive on the football field and he chose to go to Lambuth over Harding because he doesn't want to leave home... Get that... In two short years Jackson has become home. It is because of the friends he has made from the class of 2008. When he broke his ankle, it broke his heart and his Dad's as I know all of you are tired of hearing... While he didn't get to play this year the sport he has always loved the most he was still there to experience it with his teammates as they won a State Championship yesterday. So as a father I want to say "thank you" to a fine group of young men: Patrick, Tanner, Blake, Chase, Ryan, Luke, Philip, Chase, Ben, Ed, Josh, Matt, David... got to go back and pull some of last year's fellas---Clay, Greg, Michael... All of you have been in our home---it has been an interstate for two years and I hope it stays the same... It's always a mystery who and how many are going to be at the house each day... I think you guys are unique and have built a bond that will never be broken. I expect you to be friends through life. I also want to thank the parents of these fine young men for your friendship and your influence on my son. Finally, I want to say thanks to the men who have helped show him what true manhood is... It starts at the top... Scott Gatlin, Coach Stewart, Coach Cooper, Coach P, Coach Hudson, Coach Warren, Coach Carson, Coach Morris... What a Ride! Isaac has moved a lot. He was born in California---moved to Georgia---then Florida--- but this is home! Thanks to all of you!!!
  11. Yes we dropped a lot of money this week but I will tell you without hesitation that Spring Fling is one of the most exciting things going in High School Sports. Move to Florida where we came from two years ago... The boys are limited to 25 games during the season (season starts in February and ends a couple of weeks before Tennesee) in baseball then the District-Region-tournament is single elimination (Sectionals are best 2 out of 3) with enough space between games for an unstoppable "ace" to pitch almost every game... Very few surprises. As the "ace" goes so goes the tournament. Then when you get to State it is only four teams and single elimination. Every sport is in a different town and different venue... It is pathetic. Spring Fling is awesome. It is in the middle of the state (that should make sense---I'm sure Science Hill prefers the "boro" over Memphis for a venue and Bartlett prefers the "boro" over Knoxville or Chattanooga) and it is fun to see all the paint on the cars, the teams and fans from the various schools and sports in the restaurants. It is an EVENT WHICH IT SHOULD BE. The kids deserve it. Most of them aren't going to play college ball so this is it.... I bumped into several people I haven't seen since college and met their families---pretty cool experience. I imagine it costs a significant amount of money to run this thing so I'm not going to complain... Now paying $7.00 to watch a single game that lasts a little over a hour where both pitchers strike out a dozen, the only hits are bunts and bloops and the final score is 1-0 after 9 innings... that is a ripoff... (I exaggerate a little but I'm trying to make a point) TSSAA RULES OVER FHSAA!!! Go Spring Fling!!!
  12. Milan has the big "B" going for them: BALANCE... They can run, they can pass, they can stop the run, they can stop the pass. I've not seen Huntington but I go with the Dawgs... Besides as a JCS fan I've already stated that I was for the purple the rest of the way. I think Milan needs to take it one game at a time---but the big "b" wins championships. I watched Alcoa and Goodpasture in the championship. Alcoa dominated because they had the big "B." Goodpasture was behind 3 touchdowns late and still had to run the ball. You can't win a championship without the Big "B." Sooner or later someone will stop the run/pass the deeper you get in the playoffs. JCS was supposed to lose to Mt. Pleasant in the semifinals last year. We didn't have a chance everyone said. We beat them 42-14 because we had the Big "B" and they didn't! You've got to be able to do both. Milan has proved that Coleman is in stride, Trevino Moore---you want to talk about a man among boys---there's one---and of course, Gilbert running the ball. Milan has other backs and receivers that look good too. Milan has the big "B" as long as they stay focused, play like tonight and keep building on that they will be fine. STAY-FOCUSED DAWGS!
  13. Milan fans make sure someone tells Coach Morris how much JCS appreciates his leadership and character in victory tonight. Sometimes that is more difficult than displaying it in defeat. I always told my girls when I coached them "Champions can win sportsmanship trophies" too. If I had a vote, Milan would get it.
  14. Yes, my son was the tall receiver. This is only his second year to play football. Our coaches have done an incredible job with him at his position, but most importantly developing him as a man. His height and speed are a great asset so he is getting a lot of looks from smaller schools and some 1-AA schools. He's always wanted to play baseball in college but it looks like football has become his number one passion. I haven't seen him as emotional as he was tonight ever... I know his old man isn't ready for it to be over. Anyway enough of that stuff... A lot of his drops tonight were really due to great defense. Anyone that thinks your secondary is weak is full of it. Almost every pass throwm to him was either deflected or the secondary player was there for the instant hit as the ball approached. 4:13 is Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." That was our rallying cry during the championship season. I coached Girls High School Basketball in Florida and we won 3 championships in a row--40 games with that motto. I shared it with the team after our 2-3 start last year. That combined with inspirational coaches and the movie "Facing the Giants" had a lot to do with motivating them for their awesome run to the state championship. If you've seen any of our championship shirts or license plate 4:13 is on them. The 4:13 principle is about GIVING YOUR ALL. There are two sides to it.... Last year we experienced the winning against all odds. Tonight we learned if we can do all things we can also handle defeat... Sorry---I'm pretty passionate about it... I'll shut up and say again! Go DAWGS! BRING BACK THE GOLD BALL!
  15. Congrats Milan! Great Game Plan! Great Execution! Great Sportsmanship! This JCS fan will be traveling with the Purple the rest of the way. Your coach is a class act! There were a lot of 40-50-60 something games tonight and we all know this one could have been worse, maybe not quit that bad but much, much worse. I've got a son who played his last high school game tonight... he dropped more passes than usual and he didn't want to go out like this... There were 16 other seniors on the JCS team that felt the same way. It was hard watching them after the game. Thanks to Coach Morris and his staff for respecting that and not feeling that he had to make a statement by demoralizing some fine young men who have worked hard and overcome some incredible odds. Thanks to Coach Morris for showing us respect and portraying the heart of a true warrior and champion. Plus, it is obvious by the game plan tonight that he is a really good coach! Thanks to the JCS coaches. My son has been blessed to be a part of this program. Thanks for giving him an example of true manhood. Thanks for your friendship. 4:13!
  16. Gilbert is certainly coming of age. He's kind of overshadowed by all the other big names in West Tennessee but he is only a sophomore. Bad news for the rest of the Region. If he is this good now, AND HE IS VERY GOOD, it is frightening to think of what he will be next year and the year after. Coleman is also peaking and looking very good. I think that started against us last time--- I'm sure he has only gotten better. Then you got that Receiver we couldn't stop--what's his name? Santana Moss or something... And, of course, you've got Hanson protecting and making holes. I know that in no way is everyone. Milan certainly does have the talent to make the run this year. I HOPE NOT... I want my Eagles to leave a bigger mark than just "a good debut in 2-A." Looking forward to a great game no matter what!
  17. Scared to say after some of the comments about some other player earlier. No, I'm really not sure. Rumor is that he will... But, I'm not certain. We had several of our starters nursing wounds last week that didn't dress out for the Dresden game but I think everyone is healthy this week. That was a welcome game for us. The starters that did play left the game after the first series in the 3rd quarter. We played all subs from 10 minute point in 3rd Quarter on... 2-A football has certainly taken a toll on our boys. I know my boy is having a harder time getting out of bed on Saturday morning. Good thing is that it keeps them out of trouble on Friday night. After the Peabody game I had four of the starters at my house, we were sitting talking about the game, they were all snoozing in their seats by 11:00. It was hilarious.
  18. JCS Eagles say: "Go get em' Tigers this is your year!"
  19. No it is not the same "D" that gave up 42 to Trenton. We were missing our middle linebacker (the heart and soul of our defense) with a broken arm---had two linebackers in positions they had never played. (Kendal Harper and Trenton Offense vs. Linebackers out of position = 42-7 Blowout...) We were also missing our Free Safety and a defensive tackle. Martin's defense probably is twice the D we have.. But I don't think it was a JCS fan that made the comment you responded to...
  20. GCPIONEER--- JCS had the same practice schedule as Milan sounds like--- Half-Full-Half-Helmet... By the way, Milan fans I think some of the people predicting these scores in favor of JCS are more anti-Milan than pro-JCS. I don't recognize any of these names as JCS fans. They might be JCS fans but I'm thinking they are probably just people trying to get a rise out of Milan fans. JCS fans normally talk about the weather, answer questions and talk about how good our opponent is. Oh, and of course, we talk about how much we love this game of football! It's going to be an awesome night tomorrow! Perfect football weather...
  21. As a JCS fan and parent I must say that Harrison Moore and Kendal Harper are two best individual athletes we faced this year. Both have insane talent and ability and are game breakers. Harrison Moore had the best and most athletic interception against JCS this year on their first drive. On another drive he put the "slobber-knocker" hit on one of our receivers on what looked like a touchdown on 4th down but the ball ended up 20 yards up field after the hit. On still another drive another receiver caught a pass across the middle, beat out the linebacker and was headed down the sideline for the house, but "guess who" came out of no where to knock him out of bounds---Harrison Moore. And that is just on defense. Not to mention kick returns and quarterback. I would say that both of them are worthy of MVP honors for sure but I'm sure only one will get it. It will be a great game, if we didn't have a big one in Milan I'd be there. I predict Westview takes this but not 48-13 like last time. I'm predicting 28-20.
  22. I don't want to get into a woulda-coulda-shoulda because we did get our tails kicked... I don't want to go back and review what was in the first and second half because like any JCS fan I'm trying to forget that game.... (Ha!) But when you said "it was all Tide" I thought that was interesting because that was exactly the feel of the game. Peabody played like the Crimson Tide against Tennessee that night. No matter what Peabody's got a great team and you are peaking at the right time. Good luck.
  23. The JCS game was a blowout. JCS couldn't stop Peabody but that is not exactly how it happened. JCS had around 250 yards of offense...Crossed the 50 several times. 1) One drive ended with an interception in the end zone---(Good Defensive Stop Peabody); 2) One drive ended with an intentional grounding, inside the Peabody 30---(Good Pressure Peabody), 3) Another drive ended with a crucial fumble inside the Peabody 30. 4) Still another drive ended with an incomplete pass inside the 10 on fourth down (Good Defense Peabody) Peabody took advantage of every opportunity and JCS couldn't stop them defensively but JCS also did what they've done a lot this year---Moved the ball well from 20 to 20 and not put the ball in the end zone. So your friends were wrong about saying JCS couldn't do anything on OFFENSE... I wouldn't call 5 scoring opportunties COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. JCS got inside the Peabody 30 over 50% of their possessions. (Notice I gave Peabody credit for the stops so I'm not a whiner---can't whine about a 42-7 butt-kicking...) Just giving you the NOT-EXACTLY version of the game. Regardless of all that---I don't see the Westview-Peabody game being a repeat of the earlier one. Peabody is certainly peaking at the right time. It should be a barnburner. It's just a shame that one of these two great teams has to go home Friday night while some 3-7 teams continue on... (Did I say that?) GO REGION 8 2-A!
  24. Will do... I'll have to say it was amazing that out of the 16 potential wildcards only 4 of them had winning records. If we had the old system 5 of the number 4 seeds would have losing records. 10-12 teams of the 32 in other classifications have losing records. That really shouldn't be happening in the playoffs. There is no doubt that 2-A has a system that has a higher percentage of deserving teams in the field thanks to the new system. Thanks to weak regions there will always be a few teams with losing records get in... but the 2-A system has kept that to a minimum. It is a work in progress but probably a little superior to the other classifications. No more whining here... It was going to tough for JCS no matter what... We'll probably just be a speed bump for Milan but they do deserve to play one of the 3-7 or 4-6 teams after fighting their way through our region and winning it.
  25. That's why it is such a shame these two teams are playing in the first round. I know for a fact that as of last night many of the JCS' coaches hadn't been home except to sleep (If they even went then-one was sick)... Film...Film... Game Plan... I predict that we'll see some of what happened last game but a whole lot of other wrinkles too... These coaching staffs think more like college coaches than high school. Milan is bigger, stronger, deeper, and faster... Only a perfectly executed game plan and a few breaks can overcome those obstacles. I have no doubt that JCS coaches will come up with the game plan and the players will be ready but the obstacles are still there... Believe me JCS knows that Milan will NOT BE SLEEPING...
