  1. List point guards who are underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores) who have led their team at the point guard position this year. Amanda McLaughlin Notre Dame; sophomore, she has averaged 16.4 points per game for her 5 games in the month of January. She has found a rhythm and is playing with great confidence. Who are some other girls who have stepped up and found their game?
  2. Congratulations to Tee Boone the 125 lb senior who just broke the school record for wins at Notre Dame. His overall record is 171 wins and 11 losses (as of Jan 12) which includes a 28-0 record for the season. His most most recent wins eclipsed the previous mark held by Jay Adamson who was a two time state champ for the Fighting Irish. This is an incredible accomplishment for Tee and I know that everyone at Notre Dame is very proud of him. As good of a wrestler that Tee is he is even a nicer young man! Way to go Tee!!
  3. Per Chattanooga Times Free Press Jan 9, 2009 1. Zach Watson 112 Baylor 28-0 2. Tee Boone 125 Notre Dame 23-0 3. Adam Peters 285 Cleveland 22-0 4. Jake Young 171 Ooltewah 15-0 5. Jonathan Taylor 140 Red Bank 8-0 6. Ivan Migovich 130 Cleveland 4-0 7. Chance Willie 145 Ooltewah 3-0 Go Tee! Go Irish!
  4. Here is a list of undefeated wrestlers for the state as of Dec 18th (per Chattanoogan.com). 1. Tee Boone 125 Notre Dame 19-0 (everybody's favorite) 2. Logan Biddy 119 Bradley Central 15-0 3. Mike Kennedy 189 Blackman 13-0 4. Blake Rindeour 152 Maryville 10-0 5. Jake Young 171 Ooltewah 8-0 6. Alex Manley 119 Baylor 7-0 Certainly there are more than this state wide, but this should get us started. Go Tee! Go Irish!
  5. Congratulations to Kris Cambron for her well deserved award! To echo what MVM posted I really thought that all the girls listed were well deserving of the awards that they each received. I also would like to congratulate Soddy Daisy's coach Moises Drumond for his well deserved "Coach of the year award". Lastly congrats to Baylor, Notre Dame and Soddy Daisy for being the Chattanooga area "Teams of the Year"
  6. Lee University wins the NAIA National Championship!! Congratulations to Matt Yelton and the girls from Lee who have made everyone proud! http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_140355.asp
  7. I just heard that East Ridge Express won their first game 2-0. Way to go girls!
  8. In 2006 we watched North Carolina win the national championship by defeating Notre Dame in a thrilling match 2-1. This is amatuer soccer at its best! I hope all will try to catch some games, it is a beautiful facility.
  9. Lee University advances to Final 4 in NAIA tourney http://www.goladyflames.com/info/news/news-article.asp?newsid=13529
  10. It would be nice if all involved would update each team's additions and subtractions. For instance Express '93 (# 13) were Division II state champions last year. They have added some good players to the mix (6, I think) and hopefully with a few games under their belt they will get up to speed and be able to compete in the tough Division I league play.
  11. Soccermom, Thanks for info. I have to give myself a "duh uh" for not figuring that out myself.
  12. The rankings shown are from www.soccerincollege.com for the state of Tennesssee. Obviously these are based on last years results. The interesting part of this years equation is which team has bettered themsleves and will be the surpise team in league play. The number one ranked team is Brentwood 93 girls Premier and the number two ranked team is FC Alliance 93 G Black. Does anyone know if Nashville Metros are one of these two teams and why isn't the other team listed for league play? Sometimes as teams combine rosters a name change will follow.
  13. If my memory is correct I think it is typically the first week in December.
  14. ' Express '91 has played against Kim for years. She is a very good player! Matt Yelton (Express '91 coach as well) has the girls clicking on all cylinders right now.
  15. As the awards wrap up on the high school soccer side you'll see more of us migrating over to the travel team board.
  16. There are many very good defenders in the Chattanooga area unfortunately to your point unless you watch these girls play on a week in and week out basis it is impossible to quantify their contribution to the team and makes it virtually impossible (for a defender) to win these types of awards.
  17. Claire Lanter is IMHO opinion is the best defender in the state! She is relentless, smart and tough as nails. She led a Soddy Daisy defense that was arguably the best in the state. I wish defenders got more credit for their efforts and certainly Claire will be on the Best of Preps team (again).
  18. Each year the Chattanooga Times Free Press creates a "Best of Preps" list as well as one player they deem as the area's "Player of the Year". The sports writers poll the local coaches and then determine who was the best player that year. I would like to "nominate" Kris Cambron, senior forward from Notre Dame as this year's player of the year. I have watched Kris play for 4 years at Notre Dame and 6 years as a club player. I will admit having some prejudice to my choice as I have always admired her 100% effort all the time. She is an energizer bunny who never seems to quit. Notre Dame has played 13 ranked teams (some more than once) this year and I looked at some of Kris' stats in those games and they are as follows: games played vs ranked opponents 13 goals scored 16 assists 4 Notre Dame's record in those 13 games were 8-4-1 and certainly Kris' contributions were a major reason for that record. I know that they are many very good players in the Chattanooga area and some people may post (a nominee) and a lot will not regarding a player that they think is player of the year material. Some of the past winners include: 2004 Nikki Brannen, Notre Dame, currently playing at Carson Newman 2005 Paige Lanter, Baylor, currently playing at Samford 2006 Jaimee Cooper, Notre Dame, currently playing at MTSU 2007 Emily Jones, Cleveland, currently a junior at Cleveland HS 2008 ????? Even years look good for the Fighting Irish! I realize that this is really not the forum for "nominations" for "Best of Preps" (and no DonC did not put me up to this) but I certainly think it is a forum to discuss any girls accomplishments who have led their team over this past year to make a significant difference for their team.
  19. Chattanooga Area Final Rankings, Nov 11, 2009 1. Baylor 17-1-1 played extremely well all year. Ran into a very good Father Ryan team who beat them in state semi-finals 2. Soddy Daisy 18-2-1, played very well all year. One of the best defenses in the state. Only 2 losses were to a very good Riverdale team. 3. Notre Dame 17-5-1, had another very good year but lost another tough one to FRA in the state semi-finals. 4. Cleveland 15-7-2, dropped 1-0 game to eventual state champ Siegel 5. CCS 15-6-2, played hard all year just ran out of steam late. 6. GPS 5-10-2, played a very tough schedule, played extremely tough coming down the home stretch. 7. Hixson 14-5-1, solid team who is in a tough district. 8. Ooltewah 9-9-2, lost 1-0 to Cleveland in district/regional play 9. Silverdale Baptist 11-2-1, surprise team of the year 10. CSAS (incomplete record) have played competitively vs some good teams this year. No Chattanooga team made it past the state semi finals. Hopefully the Chattanooga area teams will reload some of the talent they lose this year to make a run at a state title in 2009.
  20. On top of that Lee University is currently 17-1 and 10-0 in their conference. They are also ranked # 2 in the country NAIA (they have quite a few Tennessee girls on the roster). http://www.goleeflames.com/info/news/news-...sp?newsid=13446
  21. It was a beautiful day for soccer in Chattanooga! In a much anticipated matchup of recent state champions, FRA and CAK took the field to decide the 2008 champion. CAK came out quickly and set the tone by possessing the ball on the FRA end for the majority of the first half. It appeared that CAK's quickness was creating some matchup problems for FRA. CAK did a nice job of running their offense that spread out FRA's defense creating scoring oppotunities. FRA had a few chances as we all waited with great anticiaption for Tory Pitts to do her monster throw-ins. She got a couple of chances early and her throws were good but it did not get in front of the keeper like her throws did in the Notre Dame game. There was a hefty breeze in her face and I think that the field is a little wider (@GPS) than the CCS field. Anyway at the 16:03 mark in the first half Brittany Hoffman who was running the center sent a nice ball to Julie Thompson who then found her sister Mary who hit a beautiful ball that found the back of the net. It was a picture perfect play. There was lots of back and forth but certainly CAK was dominating the field of play. They go into half CAK 1-0. In the second half it was much of the same as FRA could not seem to get their offense in synch. CAK spread the field and played extremely well and passed ball to feet all night long. I maybe wrong but I don't remember a sub for either team (or I was not paying attention). The shot count was 17-5 CAK and sometimes that can be deceiving but not in this case. While the final score was 1-0, CAK took care of business today and dominated a very good FRA team.
  22. I have gotten tired of posting regarding Notre Dame's losses in the semi finals. This was very much the same leave it all out there gut wrenching loss that we have experienced over the last two years. The game does not start out well for the Lady Irish as FRA comes out and controls play for the first 23 minutes. They are living in ND's half of the field alternating corner kicks and throw-ins (of 40 yards or more) and it looks like a matter of time before something is going to find the back of the net. At the 18:36 mark of the first half, Tory Pitts throw the ball in some 40+ yards to right in front of the Irish goal and Kaitlyn Smith finds the ball and puts in in the back of the net. Tory Pitts' throw-ins are better than a corner kick. She gets it in front of the net every time but there is much more accuracy. At this point I think it is going to be a long night living down on our end of the field. No sooner than they put the ball back in play it looks like a switch has been thrown and the Irish get some life to them. At the 16:11 mark Carey Leiper heads a beautiful ball over to Kris Cambron who finished off the play by putting it in the back of the net, tied 1-1. There was much back and forth as both teams were very active in the mid-field and each teams were making some nice runs. At the 6:35 mark on another Tory Pitts throw-in, the ball again is found by Kaitlyn Smith who deposited the ball in the back of the net. On that play ND's defender Megan Phipps was injured and had to come off the field of play. This one-two combo of Pitts to Smith is one of the best set plays anyone will see in all of high school soccer. Both team go back and forth as the teams go into half with FRA up 2-1. The second half starts and the Irish come out like they were shot out of a cannon. There were players flying around trying to make things happen. Kris Cambron who has been the heart and soul of the Lady Irish offense was trying everything in her power to will a goal in tie up the score. Daniele Ciabattone along with Darcy Brannen were re-loading the offense and throwing through balls out to Kris and Carey Leiper making run after run on the Panther defense. I thought that at least on 3 separate occassions that we had found the back of the net only to find that the Panther keeper Mariah Canady (freshman) had come up with an incredible stop. I know she is the sister of Emily who played so well for FRA for years. The Irish faithful were hoping for 1 goal to tie it up as it became apparent that FRA was tiring out (they had a very thin bench as far as numbers go). In the end we could not get that needed goal and it another heartbreaking loss to a very good FRA team. The official shot count was 19-10 in favor of the Lady Irish but that is not where you count wins and losses. Special recognition to Kris Cambron who as mentioned before carried the team on her back especially when goals were hard to come by. Her never say die attitude set the tone for many a hard fought victory. We'll miss her along with the other seniors who played so well over the years. I must mention my daughter, Shannon Kelly who is a senior and a captain this year who coming off an ACL tear from club ball re-tore her ACL in the Rivals tourney and never was able to get in and contribute the way she would have liked to have. I will say that I am very proud of the way all of the girls have played this year and very appreciative of Coaches Jim Schermerhorn,Dave Weikel and Emily Cornett for their passion and efforts over the last 4 years. Good luck to all the girls and I look forward to watching those girls who plan on playing at the next level.
