  1. Understatement of the year. The penalties and turnovers are a calling card for teams that almost were. Like Greeneville, Nolensville, Upperman, Springfield and Haywood. We have GOT to clean that up. And most of those penalties were squarely on us. False starts, holding, face mask, personal foul calls. They’ve got to learn to keep their cool and still be aggressive. Play mostly mistake free football and you put tremendous pressure on the opposing team. I’m very interested in how we handle that aspect of the game. On both sides of the ball.
  2. Northview goes from having to face Alcoa to getting Betsy and the G-Men every year. That’s some frying pan to fire junk right there!
  3. With Tennessee being such a long state, travel to the state championships can be expensive and just a flat out hassle. Trying to find a venue that is geographically accommodating is a nightmare. So, why not have a rotating schedule of some sort, where the games will move every reclassification cycle between, I don’t know, 3 cities? Or alternate every year between 2 sites. Odd years have it more to the East and Even years have it more to the West. Also, on a totally unrelated note, let’s stop with daylight savings time and adjust the clock 30 minutes (split the difference) and just leave it be. Ok. Tear my ideas apart! LOL
  4. I thought he was talking about hometown coaches..in general..and not just those guys. Someone set me straight.
  5. Let’s not forget, these guys jumped up to 4A with Betsy and Greeneville, but were in 3A with Alcoa for years! They know what Big Boy Football looks like. It won’t be a shock to them to face talented football teams. They’ve proved so far that they can play 4A ball. I don’t think they can beat Betsy, but can they at least give them a challenge?
  6. Um. Witten is coach in his hometown at Elizabethton. So, not entirely accurate.
  7. If we both don’t clean up our game, the playoffs may be short. Just say’n.
  8. Yep. Maybe that early success and the last two butt whoopin’s will set something off in that locker room and the underclassmen will change the culture over there. Having better competition in Region only makes everyone better.
  9. I was in the band and started on the football team back in 1988. I have a unique perspective and appreciation for both disciplines. The Betsy band always beat DB in competitions back then, but DB got all the invitations to the Holiday parades because they had the numbers and the money. We were able to do Disney one year. It’s kinda an insult to be the best and get treated like the step kid just because you don’t have the numbers or the money. So yeah, I had a chip on my shoulder not just for the game that season but for my band experience as well. Band is great. Music is a wonderful thing and is still a part of my makeup as much a football is. But they need to be partners in this. Another issue is your coach. If he allows the band to run roughshod over the football team, then it’s on him. He needs to put the football team back n a position to succeed and generate more excitement. I feel he just kinda rolls with it. Take this for instance. Football is on hold till Friday because of the bye week. Not over here. On our bye weeks we take the extra time to prepare, heal and continue to improve by working. If you want different results, you gotta change the culture. And ditch that pay to play system. The lights are not worth it. And when almost your entire o-line would rather have a different signal caller, that’s a clue that daddy’s money isn’t really helping the situation. Just hurting the team. It’s your team. You all step up and do something about it. Be heard. Voice your opinions. If enough of you do maybe you can effect a positive change, regardless of what that change is. I truly believe in order to have a passionate football team, you need passionate fans and supporters. Engaged fans that don’t just talk the talk but walk the walk. I hope for nothing but good for ALL of our area ball teams. I pull for even your the kids to succeed. So, HELP THEM!
  10. I was there. I witnessed it firsthand.
  11. Never too early to start this one. What can the former 3A team do with Betsy? Anything?
  12. It’s that good ole boy system! If the new QB at SH can sling it, DB will be in trouble. J.C. should be out as coach. Can’t beat Science Hill & can’t beat the local 4A teams. And the same people that say Betsy is overrated won’t look n the mirror. Again…Betsy is 5-1 against the Hill over the last 6. The Tribe is 1-4 with this season’s game looming. According to coach C., The champion of the Tri-Cities is Betsy. We don’t want that. We have our eyes on a different prize. Now, all that’s left is dominating the rest of Region 1 and earning that home field throughout the playoffs. At least the band, the turf and the lights are nice. See you next season at the Bank.
  13. We are. And have always been. Even if you beat them you’re probably going to see them again. So, it’s that “beat a good team twice in the same year” thing. If we don’t figure out how to hold our temper, stop holding and false starts and jumping off sides, we won’t even be on the field with the G-men for very long. Enjoy it tonight. Forget it tomorrow. Improve and prepare for next week. One game at a time. And we FINALLY get to play at Home. I’ve got to ask this. Maybe some of you Indians can answer it. How many more interceptions (especially the end zone) does 0 have to throw before he will give someone else a chance? I saw him pull Maupin against Asheville after some of the worst play calling I’ve ever seen. Run for 1. Run for -2. Put pressure on the QB to have to make a play. And you pull him and give the Hurd Kim the ball at the other teams 35 so he can throw a pick in the end zone. But, he gets a pass on that? His passing will be the death of you. If you won’t trust Maupin at least give a younger kid a chance to gain some experience and maybe spark the offense. Are the flashing lights really worth it?
  14. So. Holds bf is off the table in this game? On DB?
  15. We are KILLING our selves. Has anyone ever seen three fumbles on one play in high school football? We had BETTER clean up the penalties or we will not survive G’ville or any decent team on a deep playoff run. If we continue to let them hang around they will eventually gain an edge. CLEAN IT UP CYCLONES! And I did find the YouTube feed. Like I can hear it over here. I’m worn out! I might just stomp a hole in these bleachers. I’m used to the upper body workout with the cowbells. This is total cardio. And I’m old and fat!!!
  16. That’s why we love high school football. The numbers scream at you. And you look at them and think, we’ll, DB has only beaten SH 1 out of 5 tries and Betsy has beaten SH 5 out of the last 6. Better success against G’ville too. So, Eliz should win. BUT. It’s still 15-18 yr old boys playing a game. And the mental aspect gets a lot more involved at the high school level than at higher levels. So anything could sway the momentum. In the end, I hope Betsy wins and nobody has any injuries so each team can put it behind them and prep for the stretch run in their region play and get ready for playoffs. If you said I could win one and loose one between DB and G’ville I’d happily take a loss tonight. Everyone be safe tonight. We can all get together and nitpick the Vols tomorrow.
  17. I know it’s left up to the host school to decide, but it seems to me if it’s acceptable to ring them at the State Championship games, it would be acceptable to ring them and simple little non region game.
  18. If we did everything like the rest of the world does, we’d be like the rest of the world. We are built different. We cheer differently too. BVD told me us and G’ville both travel well. But he wished his fan base would be half as enthusiastic as ours. I don’t expect people outside of it to understand. By the way, thanks for the heads up on the YouTube live stream info, whoever that was. I always like to listen to the other teams call. It’s fun to hear them. The guys from William Blount are really good to listen to. I listen to them sometimes even though we are not playing them anymore. And I was told the guy for DB is pretty good too. Same guy that is one of the guest pickers on WCYB Sports I believe? Steve maybe?
  19. Really DB? No video tonight! No Tom Taylor. Not your own broadcast or even NFHS? What are you trying to hide? I guess I wouldn’t want anyone to see the booty whoop-n you about to get either. Oh well. I guess I’ll just have to video it myself. And now I’ve been told we can’t bring our cowbells. They have their band sitting in the visitors section. And to add insult to injury, they are having their alumni band and seating them in the visitors section also. They only sent us 1,000 tickets. This is a really bad look for 6A DB. Maybe next year, we will only allow you to bring a pep band. Bunch of Chickens! LOL Quote

  21. He does realize that G’ville’s Armbrister, and a kid from Science Hill played with us in 7v7 this past Soring? That, a couple of years ago, Bryson Rollins and Jake Roberts, along with about a dozen kids from other local area teams, played 7v7 for Brigham Lyons out of G’ville and the Lyons Den. And that Deuce Morton was not just a Witten Huddle kid, but trained, probably more so, at the Lyons Den from junior high through senior year perfecting his footwork? The Den also worked with kids from South and DB. Nobody got stolen. Kids learned how to play together, which is what they will be doing in collage. Just as Amari Redd (SH) and Bryson Rollins down at Maryville Collage. If kids from Hampton, Happy Valley or Cloudland feel ELiz, is a Breyer opportunity. So be it. Just like kids feel the G Devils are a better fit then North or West Greene.
  22. Beat Science Hill week 1 20-7. Beat Morristown West Same score. Held the #1 QB in the state (laughs) Drake Fisher from Sullivan East to 13-31 for 94yds, 3 int in a 47-0 beat down last week. I’ve seen DB play. It will be a physical game. But I don’t see them winning. This may be a sleeper team to bet on for making it to the title game this year. It’s all business. No super stars. Under the radar type football. It’s a different person stepping up every week on offense and a defense that shows up every play. (Teams average 69yds rushing, 82yds passing and 6.8pts per game through 5 games) I’ve heard people call it a David vs Goliath game. But they’re not sure who’s who! FYI: 6A DB is 1-4 against 6A Science Hill over the last 5 seasons (yet to play this year) 4A Betsy is 5-1 over 6A Science Hill.
  23. I had a run-in with some wild Turkey out Powder Branch one night. It may have been at your place.
