  1. Word coming out of Lenoir City High is at 2pm today Nick White resigned as head football coach.
  2. We can all say what we want but the fact is this, this performance record would not hold up in any profession and no group of fans would be satisfied with any part of this record. I would be willing to bet that if Maryville went the next 4 years with the record that LC has, the talk about the coach there wouldn't be pretty either, even with a winning record in the past. Coaching is a job, yes you have to be a teacher to be a head coach, and most assistants are teachers, but coaching is a seperate job. Job evaluations do not take into account anythng but the facts that are present, no excuses, no blaming others, just your job performance. If these teachers had the sucess rate in the classroom that their football team does, they would be let go by the administration. There have been other threads on this board talking about giving everyone getting a trophy even if they don't win, saying the players must perform their job well to earn a trophy, well the trophy for a coach is getting to keep coaching. Coaches have been fired, let go , forced to resign/retire every year, I would guess, since sports started having coaches. Anyone who enters this profession and thinks it will be different for them is wrong. Have good decent men that the players and parents like been fired, yes they have, ask the basketball coach from a couple of years ago. In every profession there is an evaluation to see if the person is performing up to a level they should be, coaching is no different.
  3. Just to add to this, the ALL THE FRESHMEN got letters last year! Some never dressed on the varsity squad. Now we have won 1 game in 2 seasons and when we question the coaching we get blasted for somehow not caring about the kids.
  4. Coaches have always had to be under scrutiny, people have read stats, watch the games and second guessed coaches before any of us were even born. Should we as fans be less critical at times, yes we should. Should a coach expect to go through his/her carrer without get scrutiny, no way. It always amazes me when people go into a profession and then act shocked when the same thing that has been happening for years continues.
  5. Hey Coach, I will say that this seasons players seemed to be a lot closer to each other than last season, even before the players were kicked off. I think the very fact that last year some games were so close has led to this seasons frustrations, having a good kicker, returning so many senior linemen, returning a couple of good senior tailbacks, I think lots of folks thought the team would be at least competitive again, and should win a couple. Did many think we would compete with Central, Powell, Maryville, no not really. Did many think we should hold Clinton, South Doyle, Loudon, Anderson County close, yes. No one thing will fix this team, it will take a number of things to turn it around, but I believe the support of the parents for the players and the team itself is there, the booster club appears to be trying to help and more parents should make sure they help the booster club. I believe that last year the players worked all year, only taking a couple of weeks off after the season. Some wonder if a strength coach would help, well one couldn't hurt, we sure aren't the strongest team. I know you must hit the weights in the off season, but doing it wrong doesn't help. If the current coaches stay then the only thing we can do is try and rally behind them as much as possible, tell the players to keep their heads up and if the coaches change, well, do the same.
  6. Don't forget the cussing the 2nd bus took by a coach (not the head coach) after the Powell game for not being "serious" enough. It is really strange to call the 2nd bus the loser bus when the freshmen, sophmores and some juniors that don't start (and most don't even play) ride that bus. Thats just stupid, call the player that didn't even get in the game a loser "If you had stood on the sidelines better, we would have won". No wonder these guys quit when they are still sophmores. Good way to build next years team up.
  7. I think he is a great coach too, my point was he didn't fair so well in the NFL but has done a good job back at SC, like I said, some coaches do better in certain situations, like college over the NFL, I heard him talk about that on a ESPN show one night. Some good NFL coaches wouldn't make good college coaches, just different fits for different people. Maybe this staff (or parts of it) would be sucessful in another situation, but I'm afraid it just isn't working at LC. Maybe 2A or even 3A, but this doesn't seem to be it.
  8. I would guess you wouldn't want to coach anywhere then, because if you had the record of this staff, the post wouldn't be very good about you either, no matter the zip code of the school.
  9. I went back and read this thread from the start and no, you never said it wasn't coaching, but you have blamed everything except coaching. It has been proven in football and other sports that being a good player doesn't equate to being a good coach. I think back to Magic Johnson just as one example, great player and a horrible coach and there is Steve Spurrier, like him or not, he is a good coach, just not in the NFL. Yes the great coaches were players, but the great players were not always great coaches, and all coaches don't fit in every situation. All of LC's coaches are young, most just starting out in this career, I commend the effort they put forth, no one questions that, but the results are just not very good. There is no guarantee that a new coach would win even 1 game next season, but maybe the players would believe they could, and I just don't think they have any confidence now. You have to admit that with coaching changes comes hope for the next season. Most of the younger players (Fr and So) I have spoken with don't believe in this staff.
  10. Must not have been any talent for a number of years. Since, according to you dr it can't be a coaching problem, the last 4 seasons with 12 wins (7 in the 04 season) must have been the players. These teams have won 20 games and lost 42 in the last 6 seasons. Record (2001-Present): 26-47-0 (.356). The 2001 (6-5) and 2004 (7-5) seasons were the only winning seasons. There is talk of a new stadium, new field etc, with no more talent than this coming through LCHS, and remember it can't be the coaches, maybe we should just give up and make a parking lot, I know they need parking at the school.
  11. I hope they all get to play next season somewhere, if they want to. I know people who follow the Maryville program pretty close who don't even know the head coach at LC's name. dr you know alot about both LC and Maryville, live in Maryville, know not only coaches at Maryville but also seem to know the entire coaching staff at LC, know quite a bit about the Freshmen team (I couldn't truthfully tell you if Maryville even fielded a Freshmen team, although I'm sure they did.) I think I'm begining to see the light here.
  12. dr you still haven't answered my question from yesterday. What was the Freshmen record this season? You said it was a winning record, what was it?
  13. I thought so, nothing but a trouble maker. Can't offer advice, just argue.
  14. Your program must have had more information than mine did. One more time, real slow, just for you, yes, we play in the toughest region, we also got blowed off the field by a 2A team and a 3A team. One more time, real slow, just for you, there is no middle school teams in Knoxville (as explained by someone in Knoxville) still they find someway to win. I guess losing 7 SR linemen is not a big problem since not one had any "desire" this year. I said no names and I meant no KIDS names, understand there stupidboy.
  15. The two practice fields are right beside each other, so when the band is playing, the players can't hear the coaches. Also the goal post is facing the band area, so no field goal practice during band practice!
  16. We have an AD that is in her first year and she didn't want to come in and make big changes right away (I don't blame her for that!) she wanted to see for herself what the situation was and then try and improve on it. I think she is very committed to the programs at LCHS and will do a good job, but if the admins higher than her don't help, it will still be hard.
  17. First off, don't name names, these are young boys and they don't need that. I'm going to have to guess here you meant to say "started" instead of "starter". You said "I have been to a few Lenoir City football games" by the way you know starters, players names, and the rules, I would guess you are more than the average observer of "a few games" He may have very well started a couple of times, but that didn't make him THE running back now did it. You know very well what I meant by my statement and no amount disecting words will change the facts. In easy terms even you could understand, if the player in question had been, lets say, the starting senior QB, would he have missed the Maryville game? NO. But being down the totem pole, so to speak, he got to miss it as punishment. Different rules for different folks. The players know it, the parents know it and no matter how you try and spin it, thats the way it is. Yes I typed 1 and 20, meant 1 out of 20, but typed 1 and 20, you keep going back to this like a record of 1 and 19 is somehow much better. No one at any school, at any level, at any time would think this record is acceptable. Are the coaches on this team good teachers? Most students and parents think so. Are they good people overall? Same answer. We are not talking about anything but coaching football, and I don't know how much coaching is involved in getting embarrassed each and every game. With the mercy rule holding the score down, I think I could get the band director (no offense to the band director) to get beat this bad and it would save the city some money by only having to pay one guy.
  18. Ok we scored 51 points this season, this WHOLE season, the other teams scored 389. I didn't say it didn't hurt the player, my point was IF he was a starter, he WOULD HAVE PLAYED. I never said varsity players couldn't play JV, I said that wasn't what it was designed for and when we played VARSITY STARTERS that aren't SRs we still got beat on JV. Record is 1 and 19 for two seasons, have lost 18 A ROW, and still only 12 out of 40 for 4 seasons. By the way, if you want to attack me fine, but don't attack the alum (including at least one of the coaches) of LCHS and the very school these players attend.
  19. I believe some of the people who write in are players themselves who DO see first hand what goes on. The others are people who go to every game, talk to the players and have for up to 4 years now and have a pretty good idea what is happening. Anyone who has ever played sports of any kind knows there is 2 punishements for most violations, there is the official school punishment, and there is the team punishment. They are generaly seperate, but not always. Everything from doing push ups to getting kicked off the team is team punishment, school punishment varies also, but is seperate. If you are suggesting that the football coaches cannot punish this person for shooting fireworks on school grounds, you are mistaken. On the player who cursed a coach last Friday, this almost validates the points players and fans have made for a while now, this player is not a starter nor even a JR or SR. His position happens to be pretty deep and him missing the game was not that bad to the team. It was said in the stands and during the week that if he had been a starter and an upperclassmen, not only would he have played, the incident would have been "forgotten". As far as the JV team goes, the reason the games were cancelled was that there were not enough interior linemen that could play. Some were playing varsity and really shouldn't be playing JV ball (not really what it is designed for) and others simply quit. I do know that Clinton didn't have a JV team that is why that game was cancelled, and other programs don't have JV teams either as we learned last season. Yes the Freshmen did pretty good this year, I personly don't know the record, but I know they won some. Last years freshmen weren't bad either. I also know that the JV struggled this year, playing players that played on Friday nights against other schools JV teams. And yes throwing to the Tight End is not always the answer, but neither is running to the right 3 plays in a row. Bottom line is this team is 1 and 20 over the last 2 seasons, and 12 out of 40 for the last 4 seasons and now has lost 18 in a row. This years games were not even close at all. As I have said before, with some of last years games being close and returning who we did, this year should have been an improvement. Are all the teams we play that much better over last year, I don't think so. We should have improved and at least been competitive, we were not. We scored a total of 42 points this whole season, this WHOLE season. Most of these points came late in games against 2nd or 3rd strings. 6 teams this years scored more than 40 points on us in a game with one more than 50 points. If this is what the majority of LCHS alumni and fans are looking for, then let's carry on, if not let's move on.
  20. That ugly dog has been showing up on our doorstep all year!
