  1. elaborate volman.. what is dumbfounded about that simple quote? Or did your 5a education not prepare you to make educated responses. uh....... der.....Or wasit you didn't recognize the talent last year. Those kids were undefeated as sophomores, and Ryan Witten as thier coach. What happened, kids get worse the older they got?
  2. my oh my, It's still going on, the 3a 4a 5a dumbfounded thinking. Just because you are classified high doesn't make you a better team. Yes you have grater depth, and more talent to choose from, but it all boils down to coaching ability and talent. That is what shows on the field. You can have the most talented kids, and no coach and go nowhere, Look at EHS last year. And you can have a great coach and no talent and see wher you get. It all boils down this year of who wants it worse. EHS comes off a big win over cross town rival.. so what, wheres the true test? SH comes off a loss to the strong south team, (who has more than just a quarterback, for those of you who think he is THE MAN.) who will win? I say the coach who puts the most time in at looking at the game films. If SH looks at pass blocking they will see how weak the O line is at protection. even MR. alconference #77 got his fat butt burnt and fortunately the QB was rolling out away from the rush, and had a second more to get rid of the ball before being hit from the blind side. i would run to the right too if i were the QB just like P had to last year to avoid getting killed from a very slow overrated players missed block. If SH can get pressure quick they win. If wes has time then EHS recievers will win the battle. As for running it's outside for EHS, they don't have the size to play smash mouth football, the fullback couldn't weigh more than 160 lbs but I saw him have some good hits last week, just think he will wear down. Tailbacks are quick, and tough but will get hit harder than last week. Ehs D wasn't really tesed last week, so who knows, but I know alot of topper fans who will be eating crow if Witten can pull it off. Little ol Ehs playin up in a bigger better class.. who has forgotten the years past? 2 year s ago Ehs should have beaten Sh on the last drive, but the great coaching staff let time expire.. remember that one GLEE? good luck to both teams, and remember leave it all on the field so theres no doubts or regrets.
  3. The game I have waited for all year. Always check your chin strap, and buckle that helmet on good when the longhorns are coming to town. By far the hardest hitting team in the conference. (yeah Tn High your close this year, but the horns get the nod). This should be a good game if Cyclones get focused, and put the game back in P's hands. We saw what happened last week, when they finally turned him loose again. Lets mix it up this week keep em guessing, and score alot. We need to start the best lineman, and forget who the seniors are, and get to the playoffs. Last week was the fewest flags I have seen this year. good job rt side of the line, some big holes were opened up. Lt side needs to step it up. and the middle needs to be plugged. Humphrey will be a tough guy to block who is up to it? Horns have good speed, and can throw the ball, something they usually can't do well. secondary better be ready to cover the receivers, and not just prudohme. i know a few more up there who can catch. This game will be decided by turnovers. the fewest turnovers will win the game. I look for P to have a good game. The Defense HAS to shutdown Atwood. Tn high did a good job of it. Ends need to cut off the outside, and turn things back in. Big game needed from 41 44, I think the cyclone will do it and keep the playoff streak alive. A little help from central would be nice too. Go CYCLONES, but good luck to the horns. Hey Mike you got a spot in post season, rest Jessie a little for those games.. lol Yeah I know where you want me to stick it..ha ha I hear that Penley kid is a chip off the ol block so give him some playing time at ol ETOWN. I want to see him play..
  4. book- one thing I have noticed is how the county schools have the misconception that Elizabethton is a big school. If you look at the enrollment for each conference. Unaka is 4th highest in enrollment out of the 6 teams in your conference with a difference of 86 kids. Hampton is the biggest school. Cloudland is the smallest. The difference in total enrollment from smallest to largest school is 216 kids. For E Town... Largest school is Tn high with an enrollment of 1178 kids, Smallest is Johnson Co. with 683 kids. Elizabethton is 4th smallest of the 8 schools. 3 smaller schools 4 larger ones. The difference from smallest to largest is 495 kids. Elizabethton is 404 students smaller than TN HIGH. E towns enrollment is 774. Just to show the size difference.. Hats off to cloudland, and johnson Co. for being so competitive in their conference, being the small ones. Elizabethton has had it's fair share of wins in a bigger conference. Only Johnson Co, Unicoi, and north are smaller. We are only 20 kids bigger than unicoi co. Really makes a statement when you look at the number of kids on the sidelines. says something for the tradition E town has, and now we understand why YOu love to Hate us. Comparing it to FLA/TN can't compare they are in the same conference, and play each other. Easy to hate a team you play against. But to hate elizabethton as a unaka fan is to say ETSU fans should hate UT. We are the same county, and should be pulling for all our teams. I know I follow how well Michael Carpenter, Hunter taylor, Brandon Medina, Jeff Wilson, Adam Townsend-stud, johnathan Lyons, JD oliver another stud, and many other county players are doing, and wish them much success, for winning seasons, and for state recognition, It looks good for our area sports. so get behind the orange and black and help us cheer them on for a winning season. Or would you rather hear the TN HIgh fans putting ALL OF US down? They consider everyone COWTOWNERS...
  5. rangerbook, sorry you are dissapointed in the play of the cyclones, but, I know they have shown better than unaka would have had they started their year with 3 teams the quality of DB, Science Hill, and Tn HIgh. Yeah we have started with a loosing record, and alot of people are down, but watch and see, if Ol Betsy don't give you that hatin attitude you creekers want. Cyclones turn the corner and turn it on for the real part of their season. If i'm not mistaken Betsy gave DB more of a game than TN high did. Look at all the talk about hampton, good team, but what did Johnson co. do to them? you play in a different classification, and it is a different ballgame.. Keep hatin us we love it...
  6. That's why I haven't said anything yet trying to cool off after such a performance. I always try to be open minded, and put the blame on everyone, so with that said here I go. Please don't get mad at me, for what I think, it only goes so far. 1st coaching is a problem. not so much ability, but want. If you want to be a good coach you take your issues, and try to improve. Example, how many times have we had 4th and short and went out of shotgun? How many times has it worked? How many teams have we stopped on 4th and short who took the ball from under center and bulled their way for yardage. i feel we have the talent to put two guys in the backfield, and run the ball. apparently coach thinks otherwise, and does not want to try it any other way. 2nd Glee hit the nail on the head with the word DISIPLINE. Not a word familiar to CYCLONE coaching anymore. We all agree the o line has it's problems, I asked one of the lineman, "WHat did your coach say when you came off the field, (he always gathers all of them up and gives a speech, to which I saw one lineman laughing at what he was saying.) I was told, He was telling us what a good job we were doing, and that the qback would start hiting his passes soon. I would have laughed too, after seeing the penetration the Greenville defense was having and we were twice the size of the biggest guy on D. Sorry but the center, and left tackle were missing blocks all night, or being caught for holding. I know one is a senior and the coaches are trying to get him some playing time, but is it fair to the team? The other one has the line coach over to eat at his house every week , so we know why he plays. Never do i see a player getting his but chewed or taken out of the game for a bad play, it is always a pat on the back. When the coaches learn to quit being so soft on the players, and making them responsible for their actions you will see a change in attitudes. The ones who want to play will listen and the others will be sitting. 3rd All blame can't go to coaching, as they can't go on the field, but has some even ever played the game? Burleson is on the field with head sets on, but what does he do? He lost his job as baseball coach, so why is he on the football staff? I don't know the answers to aything that has happened with him I just don't see what his job is on Friday nights. but the players need to get a sence of pride in themselves. It all starts with their willingness to get better, and be good. Hard work and dedication. Which some seem to think is a natural ability because of their size. Not the case, as we have all seen. Some have stepped up their game and i am proud they have. But as GLEE said me and mine have had a heart to heart, and attidudes, are to be left at home,a nd when it comes game time it is time to throw away all feelings, and play as a team, giving all they have, and leaving it all on the field, because the sun will rise tomorrow, and football will be no more. And for those who think it is a Qback issue, explain it to me? We are fortunate to have two different types of qbacks, One who can run, and one who can't. They both have strengths, and weaknesses. but i haven't seen the second string make any big plays that the starter has. Yes he has a good arm, we saw that when he throwed a ball in the stands, but arm strength doesn't make you a qback, leading a team does. And Glee don't get mad, and I don't think you will, But P needs to try to be alittle more patient sometimes. I know that has been few and far between, with the pressure he has faced, but there has been occations, he has panicked, and rolled out into a blocked man. It is hard for lineman to block when they don't know where the pocket is. Wes does sit in the pocket and he seemed to have a little more time, and threw the ball away when he got pressured. Not that that is better wish they could both learn for each other. P does a good job. Once again it comes down to ability to run the ball, and on the counter plays why are we pulling 2 lineman, and leaving the d end unblocked? I see the back is trying to block him, but if he is coached well he will follow the lineman to the play which i s what is happening, and make the play. this is a tough block for a tailback to make. Wes did o.k. but the 4th and short with a fumble showed he isn't ready to be a leader. I saw P make the first and we keep a good drive going. Coaches should have known, it is tough to get under center when you haven't taken a snap in a game situation for under center, as I don't recall wes being under center at all. Tough mistake at a bad time. Lastly, We all need to come together for this season, and encourage these kids who went undefeated as freshman, through a difficult year, and all is not lost. Playoffs are still in the picture. We have to come together as a team and play hard, maybe the coaches will come around and see the shotgun isn't working when that is all you run. Good luck to all, and lets finish strong.
  7. Great Job Cyclones! We finally got one under our belt. It sure werent purty. I think we got every penelty called except roughing the kicker. sloppy game by both, But i loved the no quit attitude by both teams. Cyclones could have been up by 14 if it weren't for a penelty, and North never quit. when will the coaches realize they need a good soild ball carrier, who will run hard and cover the ball? At the end of the game we could have used one of the old fullbacks, Harmon, or AJ or Jordan to run hard and straight and protect the ball, insted of giving North free shots at the QB. He gets banged up enough already. tonight I saw some hint of the old Harmon good hits by both linebackers. Good job by all. get ready to go to Greenville this week, and bring home a big WIN. Lets go VOLS Hook um Horns
  8. Coach mike atwood will have his kids ready to play, or should I say hit. Very physical team, but can they stop the passing attack of south? If so the game goes for the maroon and white, but if south can air it out, then katie bar the door. Johnson co. Will be in for a long night. Phipps has shown a good arm for Johnson Co. maybe they will show their own passing attack. Very unusual for the horns, but to play in 4A ya gotta pass. Gotta go with South. South 28 Jo. co. 14
  9. cyclones will be ready this week. Preston has rested, and the coaches are thinking more. Hope we can make it this week without any injuries. Same situation as last year. Cyclones will prevail..... Oh and For cyclingcurt- sorry to push your buttons last week, but I was never putting Justin down, I went back and read it again to make sure, why don't you try it and read it unbiased. I was out of line by saying you ought to be strung up.. just an expression used badly but as you see GLEE agrees that it has hurt is abilities. I know it was a coaches decision not to play him, but if you are as big a fan as I ,you would know he was laying kids on the field since jR high. I want to see that power he had back The CYCLONES sure could use the old JUSTIN. I did say he was a great kid and has the dedication to be succesful in any sport. I think it is great he is a state champ, just wish he was as dedicated IN FOOTBALL. And as for your challange I'll bike with you if you will strap on some pads and helmet and go one on one with me for 4 quarters. doubt you would be able to ride after that. Just saying as I said before everyone has a sport they are good at. Yours is cycling, mine was football. doesn't make either of us a better man. this post is about FOOTBALL, you will never see me commenting on cycling, because I am out of my league, and would not understand it. Justin as a great ability, and I feel by using football to get an education, is much more beneficial than riding with the pros, unless he can be the 20 in the world who is great. but to get there I would think he needs to dedicate all his time to riding, and training. thousands use football for education, and the opportunity is greater for him. But if he loves cycling then I would pat him on the back and wish him all the luck. I know you rode professionally but how many others do? I did follow you and read many articles on your success, but how many more know the name Jason Witten? sorry to ###### you off, but facts are facts, Justin is not the same football player he was.. whatever you want to attribute that to is your buisness, but ask his fellow team mates who missed seeing him in the gym this summer. The kid stayed in the weight room last year. He is still a good player and will be an asset to the team, ALL I WAS SAYING IS HE COULD BE MUCH BETTER.
  10. Sorry didn't mean to be rude, just didn't like the fact you are trying to tell me I was wrong, when it was in the post. guess i shouldn't get on here after a bad game. frustration being let out without speaking. My Bad
  11. mikey- no you didn't miss read my post you just assumed curt was a player. He is a guy that was a great cycle rider in his day, now he has taken elizabethtons best linebacker and made him a cyclist who is the state champ. doing this he lost alot of weight, and it has affected his football abilities.
  12. everyone knows that the best offenses have a balanced attack. 60 % run 40% pass, if you don't use the passing game effectively, then stick to the run. If THS can pass then the best thing for them to do is practice it in game situations. How do you know they can pass? watching practice? this is not a true test. If they can pass then they are stupid for not using it more to open up the running game more. We know they can run. they have proven that. with double tight sets they will run over the best, good speed, and strength. they have not been tested yet though. betsy didn't have the size or speed to play with them. The hill does. I still favor THS due to the balance on both sides of the ball. SH defense wasn't that impressive. Should be a good hitting game..
  13. THS is sadly mistaken if they think that they have a cake walk. EHS controlled the ball better against SH, than they did last night at the castle. A few early mistakes hurt them quick, and they were trying to dig out of a hole. I feel THS defense is probable better than Sh, but I feel SH offense is much more talented, and they have a more balanced Offense. THS can't throw, and if you have they ability like Sh has to stop the run, I think TH will be hurting. THS will be tested, and should prove to be a good game to watch.
  14. well said, Maybe the cyclone coach's can put that on every players locker. There's not an I in TEAM
  15. where has it got Curt? he's 30 something and I don't think it has got him a scholarship yet. little late now. maybe some colleges give cycling scholarships, i haven't ever heard of one, who can correct me, and let me know which ones do. An education is by far better than than what curt got out of cycling. Don't get me wrong, curt is a very nice guy, and everyone has his sport, I was just saying it has hurt harmon's football abilities, and will definately hurt the cyclones. If that is what harmon wants in life, then more power to him, but give the chance to the kid who's dream is to play football. I think there are a few Juniors, and sophmores who would love to have the opportunity to play, that he gets. Two years ago That is all Harmon thought about. and really worked hard. The kid has the dedication to be a star in anything he desires. I just wish it had been football for his team sake.
