  1. Sounds like LC's former head coach was a good man. Sometimes good men need to look elsewhere for something to do, as the situation just doesn't fit for whatever reason. So I respect his decision. I'd just counsel all the non-LC posters (like me) not to pontificate too smugly or self-righteously when not living the losing experience. It's all too easy to express an opinion from afar when your program is the best in the state.
  2. Great job Halls! Way to prove ALL the naysayers wrong. The defense bowed up like it always does. Proud of you all.
  3. Most of us choose to ignore innane posts like Moronicus's because they are so self-evidently stupid. But Runkle, with his supposedly detached "analysis," has likewise shown his lack of knowledge on this subject. Taking you back to the PrepExtra stats, I gather the following: Halls' opponents average 166 yards rushing against Halls' defense, which Runkle claims so confidently is "not good." Now, here's the avg. rushing yards given up by the other teams in our region who apparently have "better" defenses against the run: Maryville: 289 West: 304 Powell: 291 Clinton: 271 S-D: 265 Central: 231 LC: 291 Hmmm, in comparison them thar rushing yards allowed by Halls look purty good to this ol' Halls boy. You figured you'd be the bright bulb, didn't you Runkle? Maybe you're trying to pidgeon-hole college and/or pro stats in the "PrepExtra" game? Why don't you look at the stats in their entirety next time before jumping on a bandwagon and showing a distinct lack of analytical ability?
  4. What does West have on its own team, if not athletes, scholars bowl contestants, marching band members, choirboys? I'm not picking on you, youthfootballfan, but I just don't like the imprecision in language that results from euphemisms for something which everyone is afraid to mention. It's Orwellian, totalitarian and Inquisitorial all rolled up in one because if they speak truthfully and frankly, well watch out, in classic Inquisitorial fashion, the arbiters of political correctness will label them a heretic in need of some public humiliation and repentance. Query, what is the opposite of an "athlete?"
  5. If I'm reading Papa correctly, he had two themes to his post: First, that he believes in keeping score and that the steady encroachment of what other's have termed egalitarianism into sports is bad. Second, that he believes in good sportsmanship. With which theme do you disagree and consider outdated and too old school? And why?
  6. It's Region 3, brainiac. I'm sure, unlike in our region, all the teams in your region are powerhouses.
  7. Can't say how proud I am of the players and coaches at Halls. I'd say very few prognosticators picked us as no. 2 in the Region this year. The win against West obviously proved to be crucial. Tonight's game was a very hard fought victory. Hats off to SD. I thought SD would give Halls all they wanted, and they did, although the loss of Kitts early was pivotal in SD making several defensive stands and making it a very close game. Also, T was playing hurt the whole time he was in the game, which makes it nice that so many players stepped up, like Dowdy at QB, Pixley and McGill at RB, and Bright at corner. R. Kelly had some big runs and big defensive stops. Hughes played like a man on fire, and DD's big plays were special. Hats off too to the whole O line, especially big C. Leonard (who has been invited by Tennessee to watch the game tomorrow from the sidelines), the whole D line, and the hustling LB corps. Hope we can rest next week, let Kitts heal up and come out strong at home against Cleveland. Again, we're proud of you Halls!
  8. On Mark Packer's High School Heroes program tonight he said that Central's game tomorrow will be extremely emotional for the players, but he said he had agreed not to reveal the reason why until tomorrow. Could it be that Joel Helton announces his retirement after this season? If so, will that give the Bobkitties the extra motivation they need to beat West and make the playoffs?
  9. I didn't take OSUNut's comment as racist at all, so stop with the racialist tendencies to see everything as a matter of conflict between the races. Your and other's egalitarian inclination to sweep uncomfortable realities like that under the rug is doing our culture very little good. What about the implications of Graham's moronic assertion that the only problem that football players at AE have is playing too many video games? This is the issue. And those kids are faced with a lot more than that, and he knows it. Graham made the absolute statement that AE kids DON'T have a problem with drugs. OSUNut simply recognized that if there's any school where this would be less of a problem it would not be AE. Do you seriously contend, jlancaster, that Graham's statement has any basis in reality?
  10. You had 6 (not 7) taken off as a result of a holding call, not on the play where the whistle was blown and the play was dead.
  11. Caleb Leonard, and he's a junior. A D1 prospect.
  12. Well, it was indeed a statistical outlier and a very good game. It's unpleasant to come up on the losing end, but not as bad when you and the other team know you're in a ballgame. Burnette is an awesome QB -- he willed some of those offensive plays to success. Well played game all around. Officiating seemed fair overall, except for an absolutely weird call where Maryville's receiver pulled on our DB's facemask and WE got the PF. Can't get 'em all right. Kitts is indeed special. So is Dayton. You Maryville folks got to see Kitts' athleticism on the play where he leaped a player and stayed on his feet to the endzone.
  13. Callin' the stat man and his bell curves and standard deviations out!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> No denyin' that Maryville is a machine. And that was your last Region loss. It would appear it's time for another one, ceteris paribus. I second what the Ironman said. The Burnettes are fine folks, and it's a credit to their competitiveness that Brent will be attempting to pick us apart, just as some of his old teammates will try to get a little extra pressure on him. Don't know, Ironman, about BJ, except I heard he was a little gimpy. Hadn't heard a word about Pix being hurt.
  14. Why don't you give us the data set that you've collected and that you're using in your quantitative analytical interpretation so that we can peer review your assumptions and conclusions? I'm especially interested in your investigation of causality, and in particular how you've drawn conclusions on the effect of changes in the values of predictors or independent variables in response to dependent variables. Then again, maybe it's just that Maryville is better than Halls and the game is being played at MHS.
  15. Do you think it might not be wise for us even to show up? I'll let the Halls coaches know. Really, I'd say Maryville probably should have only played one game this year, and that would have been against WB.
  16. ruse?, Halls is closer to 3A than to 4A with their current enrollment. It would take a heck of a lot of development between now and reclassification to push us up to 5A.
  17. Anybody hear the outcomes to the JV and Frosh games tonight?
  18. I remember back in 1947, when my ol' Granddaddy played.... And then there was the time the Maryville band of the Cherokees played the Halls band of the Cherokees -- I think that was in 1463 -- well, you should have seen....
  19. I don't think OR can stay with the Govs this year. OR struggled at home against Clinton. This will be a tougher game, believe me. WB by 14.
  20. I can't remember the stats, but having seen the game against Halls, my recollection is that Clinton tried to pass more than run. And yes, Clinton ran a no huddle O against Halls. Keep plugging away, LC, you'll get there and things will turn for you in the future. But Clinton is pretty tough, so I don't think it will be this Friday.
  21. AC does indeed have athletes. And AE doesn't have near the speed, IMO, as Fulton. You tend to get the same ol' canards when a predominantly white team plays a predominantly black team. Like ruse?, I think the teams are pretty evenly matched (Halls saw both before the season began). I'll pick AC because of their size by 7.
  22. Congratulations Halls. Halls 28, Clinton 20. Way to go team. Got to eliminate those non-thinking mistakes, though. Also got to come out hard in the second half. We were way too flat at the beginning of the second half. But I'll take the win in a very important region game.
  23. I'm hoping you're not referring to who I think you're talking about on defense, Ironman. Recent ankle injury? Maybe Halls can take it on the intangibles and heart. I sure hope so. We need to rock the stadium like last Friday in the second half. That will help. Lebowski, that prediction/analysis was by ruse? He went against the grain last week and predicted a Halls win against West. He's also a non-partisan. And prophetic. GO HALLS!
  24. AC played Halls tough in a summer scrimmage. I hear Powell is down this year. I'll take AC by 7 (28-21) because it's at home for them.
  25. I seriously doubt there will be any beat down in this game. Halls scrimmaged WB in the spring, and they are scary good.
