  1. I think some of the Red Bank faithful are indeed a little concerned about their game next week with Maryville -- at least they were back in October (See: http://tennessee.coacht.com/boards/index.p...=160072&hl= ), so I doubt things have changed since then....
  2. You said it, ZCAR, Halls is a team. If they continue to play like they have of late they absolutely can beat Red Bank. Fortunately, from what I hear Red Bank doesn't have a running QB in the vein of a C. McMillan or Cleveland's Tipton. I for one am puzzled by the success that type of QB has had. Someone on the Cleveland - Halls forum said it was assignment breakdowns. I don't know enough about it to hazard an opinion. Anyhow, like you said, when it was crunch time the defense rose to the occasion and began making the stops. Also, one of our linemen had strep throat last week, but still had a good game. He ought to be 100% this Friday. I hope our opponents keep on thinking we don't have speed and then they can wave at our "slow" players as they see their backsides heading for the endzone.
  3. Goin' to Red Bank. You did it. Good win. And objectively speaking, Moronicus and Runkle, you have been pwned!
  4. This link is a thing of beauty. Nowadays we all live in Lake Wobegon, where ALL the children are above average at everything....
  5. Yes, yes, it can be incredibly burdensome at times. I'm glad you can empathize.
  6. Heather, your on-air comments are just as weighty and insightful as those you grace us with here on CoachT. So that leads me to this question -- what stellar qualifications did you bring to the table to earn your job there on the SportsAnimal?
  7. Then it should be a different letter. Inequality of outcomes is not a bad thing, and should not be viewed as unfair in some inherent sense. For example, I'm much better looking than all the posters on here and somehow you deal with it. But seriously, egalitarianism is just marxist socialism that has morphed from the more easily recognizable form that exists in Cuba, for example, to the kind that demands equality of outcomes rather than equality of opportunity. Think about that for a moment. Which is more "fair?" It's more fair just to get the same opportunity to compete on a level playing field. It's necessarily unfair to demand that we all get the same outcome, regardless of athletic ability, intelligence, behavioral characteristics, motivation, etc. Again, we live in an inverted universe if it's now unfair to distinguish between success and the lack thereof.
  8. I can assure you that Bearden is tough and I doubt they're overlooking anybody. They have a defense that swarms to the ball and they're loaded with senior talent. Halladay, the QB, is a great kid. I've heard he's going to play at Harvard. My team, Halls, which is 4A, played them early and they laid the smackdown to us, and our running game is our strength too (leading rusher with 1385 yards). I'm not saying we could beat the Owls either, but I'm telling you this Bearden team is as solid as they come. We gave Maryville a much better game than we gave Bearden, which I attribute to Bearden's size and overwhelming strength. With that said, Bearden by 8.
  9. And we'll be honored to host you, R&B. McMillan gave us the most trouble, I think, because we weren't prepared at all for that threat -- the running QB. Houston did some damage, but nothing like McMillan, probably because the coaches started gaming for that kind of player. I know nothing about Cleveland. Enlighten us Blue Raider fans. BTW, what is a "Blue Raider." MTSU has that nickname as well, right? Does it have something to do with the ancient Britons who painted themselves blue when they went to war?
  10. You are absolutely wrong about Halls. We had our starters out after the first series of the second half and they didn't return to the game.
  11. I agree with you as far as that goes as applied to Holtzian poor-mouthing. And I appreciate graciousness in victory -- indeed, the "look at me" attitude amongst certain athletes these days really gets my goat. But you're right, decency in the form of humility is not the same as egalitarianism or its effects. Admittedly, I just never want to miss an opportunity to attack the stupidity, irrationality and harmful effects of egalitarianism, so I couldn't resist.
  12. Thanks, etcoach. Stars, you understand more than most of us on here: Maybee hit has two do with me knot havin' my rebel flag to waive when Mairvul beets somebody and thay haiv to find sumthun else to complane about?????? ... but I think you misspelled "flaig."
  13. Well, on this etcoach you've touched on a subject near and dear to my conservative heart. Perhaps the problem lies in our culture's nearly religious adherence to the principle of egalitarianism, which doesn't fit at all when it comes to sports, unless you don't keep score. Egalitarianism seeks to guarantee equality of outcomes, rather than equality of opportunity. Can't be no equality of outcome when you keep score. So too in life, where some folks succeed at different levels based on a variety of factors, including intelligence, drive, ambition, athletic ability, and on and on.
  14. The above has to be one of the most naive, stupid or disingenuous statements I've seen in a while. This is the 21st century, and Knoxville ain't Mayberry. Yes, football and athletics in general can help kids avoid things like marijuana, but to say that you won't see that (at all) at a given high school among athletes is plumb goofy and unrealistic.
  15. Are you referring to Jack Daniels who was an assistant at Anderson County? If so, I thought he was a head coach somewhere in middle Tennessee?
  16. ZCAR, this game is HUGE! SD is big and they have some good skill players. We've got to bring our A game. Dowdy did a great job after T was injured. The coaches showed confidence in him by letting him throw it long to Dayton. My understanding is that T will be back. Don't know how BJ''s ankle is doing.
  17. Not many of the Halls folks are disagreeing with you. The Rebels are positively unbeatable and will, as Ironman said, whip up on the Halls boys.
  18. Regarding the Bel Hair, it's not new; it's been there a while. It did change ownership some time ago. I've been reading about your water problem with the Little River down so low. Fortunately, Halls has had enough speed, I mean water, now to alleviate the need for the 24 hour sprinkler regimen.
  19. You know, I hear there's been a shortage on corn meal and soured milk over Maryville way... Any truth to that? The rebel machine might sputter a tad without it. I'd like to think the Halls boys will show up this Friday, moon pies and ROC Colas in hand, and at least let MHS know they've been in a ball game, just for ol' times sake -- like say the last time MHS lost to a Region opponent. I won't be making a prediction though until I know if you're able to get your hands on some corn meal. You need to watch out for Ironman, Stars, cause he's sneaky and a recruiter like you. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  20. Easy there, peppy le pew. Nobody's hatin'. You're just an easy mark.
  21. I'm a Halls homer through and through, so you have to take my comments with that in mind. And I will admit Powell is better this year than I expected, primarily because of the unforeseen blessing of getting Houston at QB. But I think with the loss of Clemons, Allen, Pressley and some other seniors, Powell is in for some leaner times for the next couple of years. Your youth program beginning with the midgets on down is excellent. But your Freshman and JV's are not quite on the level with the rest of the region. The big unknown, however, will be what redistricting does to Powell, which reaches into some old Central and maybe West areas, which could help some.
  22. Broke his jaw in an ATV accident right before the season started.
  23. I see this all the time. No offense, and I'm not trying to be belligerent, but what does it mean, exactly, that a team has more athletes than another one? They both have 11 men on both sides of the ball, right? Is it a code word for something we're not supposed to notice or talk about in polite company? And if so, why is that?
  24. Hey, SemourButts, you're the author of that fine tome "Under the Grandstands," aren't you? Looking forward to seeing R. Kelley this Friday, Ironman. I understand he's been keeping in shape. He's quick, so I'd say you're right about the sack prediction.
