What's the deal with Unicoi's team this year? It's been about 20 years (15 with Baxter) since they've had a down year. And while we're at it, I think Baxter is the best baseball/softball coach in East Tennessee. He should write a book or something.

Just curious, what do you mean by "wouldn't coach us"? and what complaints? UH's Defense didn't help Harrell out. Both teams are quality baseball teams though.

Pretty impressive for a 1A school I think. They have two good pitchers so they could be tough come tournament time.

They have some pretty athletic girls. They should be able to hit well & play defense.

I'm not insulting Unicoi's athletes or coaches ,but the boy's baseball team was 8-9 last time I checked. That didn't happen in 15 years under him.

When your school size is roughly 300 or so, if a kid is an athlete he HAS to play all sports for your school to be competitive. Consequently, he has less time for an off-season program. I'm not saying the program is not important ,it is. That's why I'm interested in a way to have a good program given our constraints.

what advice would you have for small schools whose athletes HAVE to play baseball & basketball as well? What kind of offseason (if there is such a thing anymore) would you suggest for a small school who has maybe 12-15 kids devoted to football only?

IF your school board spent that much on baseball and softball programs then the programs would be so good the board wouldn't want to do away with them. The bottom line is money. Football makes money. Basketball makes money. Baseball, unless you're Unicoi County, doesn't make money. It breaks my heart.

Why would Sullivan county do away with baseball and softball? if they're like other school boards I know, NOT MINE of course, they don't fund baseball and softball anyway. I hate that. I was hoping to schedule some of the sullivan county teams.
