Unless there are some new players from last year, I believe BGA will be pretty thin. They have a couple of players; Marconcini in the post and Shellnut at guard. Marconcini can be very good or just average. Shellnut is exciting to watch and can get hot. They have another guard that I can't recall his name. He is a pretty good athlete but is not much of a team player in my opinion. I believe everyone in Division II midstate will be chasing Ensworth and MBA.

I think the team will be much improved if the coach play the younger guys. We will have two 6 Feet 9 inch post players, one a freshman Cole Harrison and the other a junior Grant Saunders. Marco will probably not play due to earning a baseball scholarship to Duke University. Tyler Shellnut with his high energy level will help and timely shooting. His brother Gavin who is a freshman could be a sleeper. He is a great shooter and excellent all around player. Joshua Smith is steady on defense but must score. W. T White must defend and rebound. He has a great shooting stroke and must shoot the ball. Nolan has gotten bigger and is expected to be a bruiser around the basket. Josh Copleland must compete and show his senior leadership. Jack Clendenin is my x-factor, he is always around the ball and in the right place. The floor general should be Jordan Smith an unselfish point guard that need to score and rebound. I'm a little bias since he is my son. He has excellent basketball skills and should be a all region pick as a sophomore. We have other role players that will help us win as a team. Go BGA

That is great news to hear. I thought that BGA lacked just a player or two last year from being a pretty good basketball team. I had the opportunity to see most of the JV teams last year, but certainly not all of them. I believe affording Shellnut to play the 2 guard will be a big benefit to him and it sounds like your son is going to be the point. Overall and in my opinion, the point guards across Division 2 are better than average. I believe your son will face some of his best competition from the point guards at McCallie and BA. And while they are very good my favorite point guard is the Paslick kid at MBA. He does a really good job at filling out the entire box score from points to assists to rebounds to steals. He is also just one of those kids that makes his teammates better. I'm guessing he must have an unreal assist to turnover ratio for a high school point guard.

With the new set-up where all region games count, this year should be a lot of fun. Good luck to BGA. They have a great school and commnunity.

All the hype about playing the younger kids is wrong. Now Mr Smith, jordan is a good ball player, BUT, the 6'9" kid is not a factor. Why is it that a 6'9 freshman can exist in Middle Tn. and nobody is knocking the door down requesting this kid? Who is he, where is he from, what planet did he move here from? Are you willing to co-sign for him? I think BGA basketball wil always be average at best.

Hello Hoopmaster. I did not ordain the 6 feet 9 inch young player an all-state selection. I do think however that he needs to work hard to become a better player. But we have another 6 feet 9 inch player that is progresing as well. What i said was that we would be much improved due to our team work unselfish mentality and yes the younger players which we have several and some names are included in the previous post. Many high school teams don't have two 6 feet 9 inch players. So if they come around and fullfill their potential. Everyone better look out because the Cats are going to be roaring. Have a great day and give the kids a break, they are only young and learning the game. Thanks again for your comments and have a great day, Good luck to your team this season.

Thank you,

For a second there I thought you were implying that BGA was up there with MBA and Ensworth. So your 6'9 kids, do you think any one of them will be all district by the end of their senior year? Will any get a D1 scholarship? Where do you think BGA finishes up this year. I'm actually a BA guy and our team will be so small this year with a shortage of scoring. Do you think you have the team to beat us?

I've watched both BA and BGA a good bit and I would have to give the edge to BA from a guard perspective. The BA guard can at times take over a basketball game. Shellnut from BA is a fine guard in his own regard, but maybe a notch below the BA guard. Per my earlier post, the only point guard I've seen that has any measurable success containing the BA guard has been the point guard at MBA. Now maybe the rising BGA point guard mentioned in the earlier posts will change things, but the BA point guard has the experience on his side. It will be interesting to see how the newcomers will impact these two teams along with the other Division II schools.

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
