There would be no shocking upset this time out for Heritage against Oak

Ridge.

A year removed from knocking off the Wildcats for their only win of the

2001 season, the Heritage Mountaineers ran into a determined Oak Ridge team Friday night on Blankenship Field.

The Wildcats rolled to a 49-0 win to up their record to 3-1 heading

into next week's non-region contest against Sevier County. Heritage, which upset OR 29-27 last season, falls to 0-4.

Oak Ridge scored on its first play from scrimmage and never looked back

as the Wildcats led 21-0 at the half and 42-0 after three quarters.

Freshman halfback Spencer Gulmire - one of two Oak Ridge rushers to top

the 100-yard mark - scored from 49 yards out on the Wildcats' first play from scrimmage.

Gulmire, starting for injured Corey Booker who dressed out but wasn't

needed, finished the night with 124 yards on 11 carries. Fullback Daryl

Davidson added 113 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 46-yard scamper.

All told, Oak Ridge¹s line paved the way for 324 yards rushing by the

Wildcats.

On the defensive side, OR atoned for last season's game by holding

Heritage to just four first downs and 81 yards in total offense. Heritage mustered but 58 yards rushing and Oak Ridge picked off four passes by the Mountaineers.

Starting quarterback Kevin McKeethan tossed a 10-yard scoring strike to

tight end James Mitchell and ran in another one from 9 yards out.

Adam Black punched in two second-half TDs, returning an interception 30

yards for a score and hauling in a 7-yard pass from reserve quarterback

Scott McMahon.

McMahon also fired an 18-yard scoring strike to Cody Cofer as the

Wildcats finished with 394 yards in total offense. >>
