McCallie Repeats as State Champs, 8-1 Against MUS

Receiving a most valuable player performance from sophomore attackman Carson Clough (two goals, one assist), defending champion McCallie stopped Memphis University School, 8-1, Sunday to win the 2010 Tennessee Scholastic Lacrosse Association Division 1 championship.

 

Clough was selected as the championship game offensive MVP as McCallie won its fifth TSLA in the past nine years and the program's 10th championship overall.

 

McCallie (15-1) spotted MUS a 1-0 lead on James Akers' goal in the first 10 minutes of the opening quarter and then scored three goals in the first five minutes of the second quarter by Zach Ward, Eoin Collins and Clough. The Blue Tornado, which led 5-1 at halftime, also defeated MUS in last year's final, 12-6.

 

The Owls (10-2) had three shots bounce off the goalpost in the second quarter and four for the game

 

Blue Tornado All-American senior goalie Patton Watkins earned the most valuable defensive player award by shutting out MUS for the final three quarters with 14 saves.

 

McCallie's All-American T.J. Kemp and Eoin Collins scored two goals, while Zack Ward and Walker Barnes each added one. Parker Mincy contributed with two assists and Bennett Krishock had one assist.

 

The win is number 174 for McCallie coach Troy Kemp who has an 18-year record of 174-57 with seven state championships; 1996-97, 2002, 2004-05, 2009-2010.

 

MUS was playing in its fourth straight state final, winning it all in 2008.
