Heading into the week of the WCWA National Championships, the association released its second set of rankings this season placing the Lady Tornado third in the country.

The Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) released its second set of national rankings on Monday, Jan. 21. The King Lady Tornado fell to No. 3 in the country while boasting two individuals ranked No. 1 in the country. Simon Fraser University took over the top spot in the team rankings while Oklahoma City University places second heading into this weekend's WCWA National Championships, hosted at King.

Alli Ragan (Carbondale, Ill.) and Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind.) both reside as individual favorites in their respective weight classes. Ragan, who returned to action on Dec. 1 in a dual against University of the Cumberlands, has dominated since her return and has held on to her No. 1 ranking in the 136-pound category with ease. Fellow Junior World participant Sarah Hildebrandt has had a consistent collegiate season and remains No. 1 at 123.

Defending National Champion Emily Martin (Frisco, Texas) is currently second at 109 behind Simon Fraser's Vicky Anthony who took an Olympic redshirt year in 2011-12. King has a total of 16 individuals ranked in the top-10 over the 10 weight classes represented by the WCWA. Other notable rankings include Julia Salata (3rd, 155), Kayla Brendlinger (3rd, 115), Lorrie Ramos (4th, 170), and freshman Malexis McAdoo (4th, 191). The Lady Tornado have four individuals ranked fifth in their divisions. Complete individual rankings are listed below.

As a result of their individual placements, King currently ranks third in the WCWA team polls heading into the National Championship weekend. The Lady Tornado fell two places after holding the No. 1 spot through the majority of the collegiate season.

Simon Fraser (British Columbia) sits atop the national rankings, paced by five No. 1-ranked individuals – Vicky Anthony at 109 pounds, Helen Maroulis at 130, Danielle Lappage at 155, Justina DiStasio at 170 and Jenna McLatchy at 191. The Clan ended Oklahoma City University's dual winning streak at 75 and unbeaten string at 90-0-1 with a 22-10 victory Nov. 17 in the Harry Geris Duals in London, Ontario. Simon Fraser also captured the NWCA National Duals title Jan. 13 in Springfield, Ill., defeating the five-time defending tournament champion Stars 27-13.

Four-time defending national champion Oklahoma City University holds the No. 2 spot. Jamestown (N.D.) is fourth, and Lindenwood (Mo.) rounds out the top five in the team ratings.

In the 2012 WCWA Championships, Simon Fraser finished third place while DiStasio won the 170-pound title. The Stars won the national championship behind six individual national champions. King finished second overall and posted two individual national champions (Emily Martin, Krista Revelle).

The 2013 WCWA National Championships will be hosted by King inside the Student Center Complex (Bristol, Tenn.) on Jan. 25-26. Complete information regarding the championships will be provided at www.KingTornado.com.
