How did Karns come back?

Karns tied the game in the bottom of the 7th on a leadoff single by Alex Henry. Alex was advanced to 2nd on a SAB by Clint Fox and with two outs Alex tied the game at 3-3 on a passed ball by the Oak Ridge catcher.

 

In the top of the 8th Eric Barclay leadoff for Oak Ridge and got on base by E5. Shane Ownby then struck out the next Wildcat batter for the 1st out. Jared Mullins was intentionally walked and then the next Oak Ridge batter flew out to right field for the 2nd out of the inning. Oak Ridge had runners at 3B and 1B and then on a routine ground ball to 2B, the Karns second baseman had a throwing error to 1B and Oak Ridge would take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 8th inning.

 

Heath Cheverton lead off for Karns with a single and was moved to 2nd on a SAB by Perry Sigmon. With two outs and Heath on 3B, Oak Ridge would walk Landon Chester for runners at 3rd and 1st. Landon would steal 2nd and now on a routine grounder to the Oak Ridge second baseman, he would have a throwing error and two Beaver runs would come home.

 

There were no errors in the game by either team until the 8th and final inning.

 

Shane Ownby threw 8 innings for Karns and scattered 6 hits and struck out 7 with 4 BB. Share had 3 earned runs. Nathaneal Walker threw 6 innings for Oak Ridge and gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 6. Ryan Simmons relieved Walker and took the loss.

 

Perry Sigmon for Karns had his first HR of the season and there were only two other extra base hits, a 2B by Alex Henry of Karns and a 2B by Eric Barclay of Oak Ridge.

 

It was mainly a pitching battle for most of the game.

 

Cale Iorg didn't play for Karns because he had surgery Tuesday for a broken nose. I don't expect him back until next week. It's tough to have a .500 hitter, SS out. Cale's slugging avg is 1000.
