Coming from a Cardinals fan, I'm sad to see Sammy go. He was a huge part of the Cubs/Cards rivalry. Him and Mark rejuvinated one of the best rivalries in baseball back in 98. The Cubs are idiots to trade a player as good as Sammy and only get Harriston in return. If that is what they're getting, if they get more Sportscenter didn't mention it. :P

while im sure no organization never wants to trade a player of sosa's caliber, i believe it was time for sammy to go, he had just simply worn out his welcome in chicago. if i was sammy, i dont know if i would be too happy bout being traded to baltimore though, it would be a miracle just for baltimore to make the playoffs, much less win a playoff series

The Cubs have been wanting to get rid of him, the problem is that his contract automatically picks up an $18 million option for the 2006 season if he's traded.

This is the first I've heard that voiding that clause of the contract wouldn't be frowned upon by the MLBPA.

Personally, I've always thought Sosa to be a charlatan anyway.

They were just talking about the line-up the Orioles would have if they acquired Sammy. Melvin Mora leading off, Tejada batting 2nd, Palmeiro in the 3 hole, Sammy clean up, and Javy Lopez 5th. That's a great top 5. I doubt the O's will win the A.L. East with Sammy but they will contend like they were supposed to do last season. B)

Sosa won't help them nearly as much as some people think. Lopez isn't durable, Sosa's a reputation who used to be really good, and Palmeiro gets the AARP discount at the team hotels.

Sosa might be worth trading for, depending on how much of his contract is picked up...but he's no longer a superstar.
