I understand completely. Stroup shares a wealth of opinions.
Lots of people in Sumner County will tell you that since Station Camp and now Liberty Creek has opened - and with the rise of Beech's program over the past almost 20 years - that Gallatin doesn't have the talent that it used to. They make it seem as if all of the "players" are going elsewhere. Gallatin still has a wealth of talent. And they added Stroup's super-talented son (a quarterback) to the mix three years ago. He became a three-year starter who unfortunately suffered a season-ending injury mid-season last fall. Then, they added a super-talented transfer from Davidson Academy (Barksdale) last season. But apparently, there's "not enough talent in Gallatin to compete at a high level anymore." I would say that almost any coach in the area - maybe with the exception of Crabtree (at Beech) - would trade their talent for Gallatin's talent. Coaching stability has a lot to do with it. There's been a lot of turnover with the staff, and for whatever reason, football isn't as important in Gallatin as it used to be. Maybe that's understandable. Interest wanes when you go year after year after year without deep playoff runs (repeated first-round exits and occasionally not making the playoffs). It doesn't completely add up. While there's multiple factors involved with Gallatin transforming into a mediocre-at-best football program, the coaching equation is the heaviest variable in the equation IMO.
