The only way that these things work is if you have "that guy" willing to organize something into existence, then work at it to make it happen. There are always plenty of people who are willing to do pretty much whatever is needed, other than being the person to take responsibility/ownership.
I think that the possibility for a successful magazine, webpage, or both is very high, and that it could bloom into a major thing on the state level if the information can be presented in an interesting and affordable forum.
In just a more regional point of view, the western division would require some individual to commit fully in a leadership role... nothing is coming from mainstream media (Jackson Sun/WBBJ) that would approach the level of information gathering required to disseminate in a public forum. @ReitzFan would be the vault of information regarding some idea of who would possibly be serviceable in that role.
Eric Hampton started a webpage recently that's mostly basketball focused (plans to expand to other sports), that's great for the history of the game, individual players, and coach interviews (it will continue with help), but he's accepted a coaching position now and most likely couldn't be expected to grow into a state scale publication without partnering with a larger scaled entity.
Pardon the manuscript, but I'm all in for it and would absolutely be a customer if "that guy" (or girl) is out there!
