  1. I was wondering if he was a candidate for this. I just didn’t know enough about the program or kids to know.
  2. Alcoa moves up to 3A next year. That should make it more interesting. Their substate matches up with Upperman (although I expect them to both win their region so it wouldn't be a factor).
  3. Probably but I think Alcoa would give them a battle and they don’t lose anyone either.
  4. My WAY TOO EARLY picks to make it to state next season: Greeneville, Fulton, Alcoa, Upperman, Hume-Fogg, Jackson North Side, Fayette Ware, and that leaves, IMO, either Tullahoma or Portland for the last spot. If Dyersburg can be more consistent then they could potentially make some noise, but have to get through either North Side, South Side, or Fayette Ware. I believe Regions 5 and 6, who matchup in substate, might be the paths of least resistant next season. Region 5 loses A TON of top talent. Region 6 also loses a good bit of talent too. Hume-Fogg theoretically should be worse, but should be a better shooting team from what I have heard and know of, Especially with the youngest of the trio of Nwoye brothers coming in as a freshman and I have been told he will probably start and is supposed to be the best one of the 3. However, I wouldn't pick them over Upperman, Alcoa, Greeneville, North Side, and probably not Fayette Ware or Fulton from what I know now. However, things can, and probably will, change between now and then obviously. And my SUPER EARLY championship game prediction: a back and forth classic between Upperman and Alcoa. Wouldn't shock me whichever won, but both return basically everything (at the very least their main cores), but I will take Upperman to repeat as of now. My reason for Alcoa getting in over Greeneville in the final is simple. Alcoa beat Greeneville earlier in the year, and Alcoa returns basically everything (please fact check this), while Greeneville returns Thompson they lose at least 2 or 3 starters that were big in stepping up when needed.
  5. Yeah. At the end of the day Upperman hit a TON of those chances. hardly ever missed. Super impressive, and they did it last year too (or at least vs Hume-Fogg).
  6. So I just went back and looked at the stats and entering the 4th it was 11 to 10 in favor of Upperman on free throw attempts. Upperman had 18 in the last 4 minutes when up by 10. So I do feel like a lot of that is the game situation. Now I definitely could be wrong, but in most cases when a team is up by 10+ with 4 minutes to go and there’s no shot clock I would expect the team leading by such to get more free throws, and the Other team to foul/be more aggressive. trust me it is frustrating though as both times Upperman has played Hume-Fogg they had 10+ more free throws than us. Last years it was more of a difference maker than this year though. in this years matchup vs Hume-Fogg really my only complaint with the officials was some of the fouls being called shooting fouls as opposed to before the shot.
  7. I originally did earlier in the year, but I was mistaken obviously. Didn't realize how much more physical and athletic Upperman was vs Stone at that time. Let me be clear. I was wrong about that and I haven't thought they were better than Upperman since the first time they played this season.
  8. I could definitely see it turn out that way. The problem is no one really stopped Ty Cobb all year. So Reynolds very well might've slowed him down, but I personally can't say it would happen til someone actually does it. As for Alcoa, them and Upperman have a common opponent in Greeneville. Both played about the same vs them. in control by about 10 points most of the second half. However, one was a mid year game and the other was a state semifinal (of which Greeneville had shot lights out the day before). I do think Loretto would have had a more favorable matchup against Upperman than Alcoa would have though. We might get that answer next season as Alcoa moves up into the same substate pairings as Upperman in 3A.
  9. This logic isn’t the best, as different matchups for different style teams. While this is true, Tullahoma turned it up a whole other level during postseason. Wasn’t the same team from the regular season, because I had them going out in the region tournament to stone memorial for this exact reason. as for Upperman, they turned it up a whole other level come state tournament time too. one other thing to add, Tullahoma and Lawrence county is a rivalry game for the 2 due to how in recent/prior years Lawrence county had knocked out Tullahoma. So that game was going to be close just from the mental component of it alone. I think we have to take in consideration the injuries on Loretto that weren’t there when the played Lawrence prior. All of this to say I’d have loved to see loretto vs Tullahoma and Upperman. I think they would be close games. I think maybe they beat Tullahoma, but if they played in state tournament I think they lose to Upperman. Upperman is just a whole other beast in the state tourney.

  11. My top 5 currently I believe are: 1. Upperman (some space here, but not a ton) 2. Greeneville 3. Alcoa (some more space here) 4. Fayette Ware 5. Jackson North Side/ maybe Fulton I think 2 and 3 are interchangeable really. I just think with what all Upperman has returning I don't see them taking any steps back, matter of fact....they may try to go undefeated next season. At the very least be one of the top teams in all of TN. Alcoa will be in District 5 with Heritage High School. Which means substate with Upperman. That could be interesting.
  12. New update: Ty Cobb has now also been offered by Belmont.
  13. Wait so why does south side, north side, and Lexington change from region 6 to 7? They were district 12 this past season which is region 6.
  14. A lot of it was the fouls when they were behind it was probably closer to 20 vs 10, and that’s because Upperman drove to the basket more where as Tullahoma took more outside shots.
  15. Congrats to Upperman! Best team and they beat all the best teams to do it! The 2 teams with the arguably toughest paths made it. So no excuses for either. Great game and seasons to both! Ty Cobb averaged over 30 points per game in the 3 state tournament games.
  16. Yeah 1,000% agree here. That’s why I say requirement should be academic test scores should show magnet schools should perform better than the other public non magnet schools in their district. It would be extremely hard to circumvent that and be a good way to get rid of the fakes.
  17. They were the first public school since 2008 I believe they said.
  18. My bet is highly that yalls final will be the most attended and loudest I believe. 2 areas that are well supported by fans and schools, and are both going for their first championship….yeah I’ll be shocked if not electric.
  19. The 1A final is the only one that also didn’t seem like it would be interesting. The other 3 should all be interesting or at very least great storylines
  20. Hume-Fogg had a pretty sizable student section, but that was because kids had the option to get out of class if they showed their GoFan ticket.
  21. I can definitely see that, and I wouldn’t be shocked if there are schools that exploit it. I just don’t think there’s a good way to remove the magnet schools part of this as I don’t think there’s enough to have their own classification, plus they all vary in size. I truly think that the magnet schools that actually perform better academically than the rest of their area/district schools are probably doing things right. I’d look at those schools that don’t perform better or are close to equal with the other area schools. I mean if the school is built under the idea of better academics then they better perform better otherwise there isn’t a point to them. That’s just my opinion
  22. 2 things: 1. Chat prep is a prep and not a magnet school. 2. In Hume-Fogg’s case it was created before there was even a TSSAA. Leaving that part out of the whole argument of created for academics and not athletics is a crucial part of the argument here. I will also add that instead of controlling the environment it would’ve been better for me to just say this: within metro Davidson schools it is a much easier process for the normal public schools to get athletes than it is for the magnet schools.
  23. I will also add that now by what I’m reading from yall as controlled enrollment then all metro Davidson county schools would be controlled, as they eliminated zoning for all public schools a while back. Any student in Davidson county can go to any school of their choosing, unless it’s a magnet school that has academic requirements. If anything it should be harder for their magnet schools to get good athletes.
  24. Look all I’m saying is in 2008 when I went through the process after middle school, I remember watching a live broadcast of the lottery drawing.. we had a number and prayed it would be called as the balls were being drawn. I got into Hume-Fogg and was lucky enough to have also been #6 on the waiting list at MLK if I hadn’t. I’m just advocating that when including magnet schools that we should look harder into it. And not just lump them all together with the charters and preps. Hume-Fogg had very lean years in sports outside of always being competitive in soccer since that time frame. We don’t have football, and we just got our own gym in 2017. I believe Hume-Fogg is also the oldest public high school in the state (there are older private schools though) at well over 100 years old. it’s just very clear that the school is built for academics and college prep, and not athletics.
