  1. After reading some of these posts I have just a couple of observations. It's not just a DB thing it is a region one thing. How many players from NE Tennessee, specificly region one, go on to D1 year in and year out? Not Many. For that matter, maybe it's a state thing. I haven't looked at a roster break down, but how many of the young men who don orange and white and the Power T on the side of their helments on Saturday afternoon actually hail from the Volunteer state? I dare say less that 30 percent. Second, to all you message board coaches I don't know what I would like to see more you trying to coach a high school football team for a week or Coach Clark or any high school coach get to peer over your shoulder at your workplace and criticize the job you do. The game is different today, the kids are different, the situations are different, the distractions are different, and coach's responsibilities are different. Most of us couldn't last a week as a high school football coach much less come up with a win on Friday night. Put down the Madden on X-box, they deal with the real. Finally, stink it up. You had a good season. You've got every right to be disappointed. What you don't have the right to do is question the the players and the coaches. Truth be told it's their team. They put in the work, the blood sweat and tears. The rest of us just get to go along for the ride and enjoy following them play and get our hopes up for the glory of a Gold Ball. Guess what, when it is all said and done only 6 or so teams in the state will finish the season with a win and not disappointed. Your coach and your team had a good year and they represented your school and city well. They don't deserve to be hung out to dry. Truth is they don't just play or coach for championships. They play and coach for the love of the game.
  2. Oh srupley, I see how it is. Which side of your mouth are you talking out of? On a previous post from another thread you wished us luck and told us to "give 'em heck" in regards to the Trojans. Now you are saying "Go Trojans!" Does that make you an "Indian" giver or are you just trying to butter up to MoWest so that they don't beat you in the regular season when the make the jump to 5A in a couple of years. I'll tip my hat to you as far as the underachieving goes you are right to a point. Our conservative one dimensional Coach and his staff had the game plan to beat you guys this year. We had you and the ropes off balance and then we bacame our own worst enemy. So yeah maybe we did underachieve. But the Indians ought to know a little something about underachieving. Enjoy your Friday night at home. After my little rant I'll get back to thread at hand. I think MoWest has a shot. Big, Strong, Fast, Deep, Looks like you are playing the University of Alabama when you see them on the sidelines. I think they have a legit shot. The mighty Maryville had a struggle against Brainard, maybe it's not the U of Murvuls year. Maybe 4A is a little more wide open. But to give the Rebels their due, to be the team you have to beat the team and the road to the title goes through Maryville. Plus don't forget, there is the matter of that little ol' "underachieving" team from Bristol you have to face this week. If you look to far ahead you might just get the horns.
  3. Hey Thanks. It'll be a tall order but I know our boys will do their best. We're playing pretty good ball right now and I wouldn't bet against them. Sounds like you guys had some tough breaks Friday night. That's a shame I really thought you all had a shot at making the show. We'll see you on the gridiron next August.
  4. Word is that DB will visit the castle Week 0 of the 2007 season.
  5. Not to cut in on Cap, but we took it to Volunteer pretty good plus they showed exactly you see out of a 5 - 5 playoff team. They made it to the dance but didn't have to many moves. Coach Rider, the staff, and the kids did a good job turning things around this year and if they work hard and have a good off season they will be tough next year because they are a junior and soph. football team. Hey hopefully we can both take care of the Mo'towns next week and go toe to toe in Death Valley. We'll both have our hands full in order to do that, especially us with the Trojans. But just ask Willy Blount, anything can happen in the playoffs. I think you guys will do ok against Mo East. I hear their pass defense isn't that great so Captain Curt should be able to light'em up. Good luck next week and we'll see what happens
  6. Vikings, The Voice loves you guys. You've been fun to watch during the regular season. The second season starts tonight. These Falcon's are peaking at the right time and they are going to be tough tonight, but SO ARE YOU. Go do your thing and give me something to holler about. I've got just one word for ya...WIN!
  7. For the second week in a row the Vikings are Sr. Night opponents and that always means facing a team playing with a lot of emotion. Also for the second week in a row plaing conditions (a wet nasty field) could be a factor. Last week the Vikings played through all of that and beat a good football team to clinch a home playoff game. I think they will beat another tough football team tonight. North still has a playoff shot but they have to beat Tennessee High to get in and the Vikings know that so there is the matter of pride there. The Vikings also want to go into the playoffs with good momentum. A focused Viking football team gets it done tonight. THS 24 North 7
  8. Atta boy BWI. You all did just what you said you would. Good game on the D (especially that 4th quarter INT of yours to help stop their momentum and set up our door slammin TD) Good win for the Vikings! I'm proud of you guys. Keep it up!
  9. Congratulations to Omar. I have enjoyed watching him play the past few years and look forward to seeing him this year. It's good to see a kid from around here get a tremendous opportunity like this.
  10. Omar is a fun kid to watch play. A tremendous talent. Good to see a kid from the area get a great opportunity. He will do well.
  11. The Voice has been silent on the boards for a couple of weeks now. But have no fear The Voice is always here and I've been watching. It seems like there has been a lot of hating and comparing and finger pointing going on and a lot of trash talking about our boys. But I'm glad to see a more positive tone going on. So we lost two games. We lost to two good football teams. No shame there. So we've been a little off kilter since. Hey no sweat we put two wins in the collumn. Let's look at some numbers. Number three in the MT Lakes in total offense number one in rushing offense by almost 500 yards (& That is without a 1000 yard back. Not bad for run by committee.). Number two in scoring offense by a mere point. Number one in the MT Lakes in total defense and number one in scoring defense. Looks to me like players making plays. I'm glad to see a positive attitude from "playa" and "battle" cause we'll need it against the Horns. They want us BAD! We need all the positive reinforcements we can get. Nothin' but love for the maroon and white and the boys wearing it. JC has become a force to be reckoned with in the MLC and just making the playoffs isn't good enough for them. They want to beat one of the traditional powers. Last year when we locked horns with them it took two nights to beat them. They "beat" us on Friday night, but we were able to turn it around on Saturday night. We won't have that luxury this year. And just like my man "battle" told me before the Saturday night extension last year, "these boys are for real, they ain't no joke." JC is for real. Coach Atwood has done a great job and his son is a tremendous talent. They have a good qb with talented targets to throw to. Their "D" will hit hard all night long. This one won't be pretty. It won't be text book. It will be a hard fought, physical gridiron war decided only by who wants it more. When it's all said and done and the final seconds tick off of the clock, I BELIEVE the Vikings will be the ones left standing. Go Vikings! This one is for one more in The Castle!
  12. Congrats to the Rebels for a great win. Carter and company showed us a text book example of how to game plan and take advantage of an off week. Phillips looked like the real deal. The Rebel defense was nasty. They did everything you are supposed to do to win on the road. GREAT JOB! Good luck the rest of the way. Vikings, we're 0-for-Kingsport. Let that burn in your belly and fuel us for the rest of the season. There is still a lot of football left to be played and a home playoff game to be played for.
  13. Quit worrying about what the "wacko" is saying and listen to "the voice". You all go out there, get the title back, and give me something to holla about.
  14. Just looking a some of these posts that are predicting South hanging 20 plus points on the Viking defense, they better be planning on being Throp-esque and scoring a couple off of turnovers because all state qb or not, ain't nobody commin in our house and scoring over 20 with their offense alone and no help from their defense or special teams. Your not going to do it, the Vikings don't play that way. Don't count on the turnovers either unless you are stopping at Arby's before or after the game. The five turnovers we had against D-B are more than we had in the previous 4 games combined. We got them all out of the way last week and we're not doin' it this week. The Vikings don't play that way. Phillips will get his big plays he is too good not to. But it seems like nearly every week the Viking D is facing a hot shot qb with a wide open offense. How much different can the Rebels be from the Toppers or the Indians? The Rebel defense? No one has stopped the Viking running attack so far. Look at the yardage. We're predominantly a run offese. Teams know it is comming and still can't shut it down. And for those who think we can't throw the ball, ask Science Hill how many of our three td's against them came off of a pass. This game should be a dandy in what is becoming THE rivalry in the MLC. But the bottom line is this, for the Rebels to beat the Vikings in The Castle, on homecoming night, they will have to play a better game than the Hill did and as good as D-B did and even with two weeks off to get ready for it, I don't think they can. Vikings win 28 - 14.
  15. Yes. Sort of ironic since we were South's homecoming opponent last year.
  16. Yes Boonie we are happy you said "Castle". We are even happier you are picking us to win this week. We would be happy for you to attend the game in our Castle. It should be a good one.
  17. WaCo, I try not to make it a habbit of hanging out at other teams threads and posting messages there. But I will tell you this. I'll check out D-B just to read some of your stuff. Dude, you are funny! Aside from your humor what I really appreciate about your posts is the fact they are grammatically correct, unlike some folks. Keep making us laugh.
  18. Whoa Art, please go back and check the posts from the DB v. THS thread. I haven't seen all of the posts, but I think you'll see mostly respect for Josef Throp coming from THS fans. I for one love watching the kid play, basketball or football. I have heard some of the stuff South folks have said and done to this kid and it sickens me. There is no place for that kind of garbage. This posts surprises me a little Art. You usually are very pro-DB and I dig that. You just usually don't get this personal. But I can understand defending one of your own and I can't blame you. I'm sorry you didn't spend the $5 and the gas money for this years game. It was the best 41 - 7 game I ever saw and Josef played a heck of a game.
  19. I got two words for ya...STONE CASTLE. There is no where else like it. Any other place is just like any other stadium just bigger, smaller, newer, older, nicer, louder, etc. But ask anybody that has played there. No where else is like it.
  20. I don't like to get into comparing players or teams because each year is different. The kids are different. The teams are different. And I think the world of all of them. Zack and Mo were fun to watch on game nights and they made a lot of things happen, but when I go back and watch the highlight film from that season, Zack and Mo give me chills! What translates on the film was the passion they played the game with. If I wanted to show a kid how to play D-end, I would show them that film. In the heat of the battle on a Friday night that passion would get overshadowed by the excitement, to see it in highlight form is AWESOME. Elijiah and Matt are still both very young and still learning a lot. They have a tremendous upside and will only get better. When it is all said and done, I think you will look back at two great sets of defensive ends. When you look back, Mo and Zack didn't really become that dominant until their senior year, imagine what Elijiah and Matt could be like next year if they continue to get better. One thing both of these tandems have in common is the play of their interior linemen. In '04, Zack & Mo had Drew Kennedy and Johnny Graybeal. They were hard working kids who brought it each and every day at practice and loved Friday nights. They took on a lot of double teams to help free up the ends. On this years team you have Anthony Coleman and Nathan Bryant taking on those roles. They are work horses who make a lot of things happen on the inside. The ends get a lot attention, but ask any team we have gone against and they will tell you what a good front FOUR we have. Oposing quarterbacks be afraid. BE VERY AFRAID. Question for you. Are you figuring on the Rebel offense scoring all 27 of those points? Just curious.
  21. That picture pains me to see it. With the team we had in '04, our best in 32 years, to know what we did to teams that year, and then what you all did to us in the semis. You all are truely the program in Tennessee. I'm gonna be glad to see you all go to 5A. Then the rest of us 4A's will get a shot. I think you all will do very well in 5A. You may not dominate like you do in 4A, but then again. Congrats on the poll ranking. I hope you crack the top 10 by seasons end.
  22. As far as the Vikings are concerned this IS A RIVALRY GAME. We respect the program and the job coach Carter, his staff, and the kids have become. Plus, we have played some close ballgames with South in the past few years. I think the game Friday night could be another in a line of classics with these two.
  23. Last week is over and done. Trust me gip. The Vikings are laser focused on the Rebels and ready to take back the title.
  24. Looking forward to a good game Friday in the castle. I hear South has moved "two big kids" to their running backs to give Phillips better weapons there. Anybody know anything about that? Also, how is their center? The one who broke his leg a few weeks ago. I've heard he is done for the year and I've also heard he will be back for this one.
