I correct myself. I was way off on the brackets. I was previously going off info that I had received from a couple area players. Brackets according to the Columbia Daily Herald. Richland bye Santa Fe vs Mt. Pleasant Columbia Academy vs Culleoka Hampshire vs Cornersville Richland plays winner of SF/MP. So I'm assuming SF/MP is the 4 vs 5 game. CA/Cully Winner vs Hampshire/Cornersville Winner. I'm assuming Cully is 3, CA 6, Cornersville 2 and Hampshire 7. I may still be wrong. Who knows?

7 Teams. Correct me if I'm wrong. Richland # 1 Bye Cornersville # 2 vs # 7 Mt. Pleasant Culleoka # 3 vs # 6 Hampshire Santa Fe # 4 vs Columbia Academy # 5 Hampshire and Mt. Pleasant may be flipped. I'm not sure though. I may have 4 through 7 completely wrong but that's how I got it stacking up. This is one of the worse tournament brackets I have seen. I believe the #4/#5 Seed loser some how gets a bye. I can't exactly remember how it has worked in the past but it can almost be an advantage to lose at some point. I see Richland winning it all. They swing the bat well. Don't count Columbia Academy out. They have been improving and if Logsdon can make it back he could really help this line up. It will be interesting to see. Some good pitchers in the this district. Looney, Fly, Callandar, Blalock (if healthy), Logsdon (if healthy), etc... Good luck to all teams.

Congrats to SH Raider Baseball and Coach Lamm. Proven winners year after year. Put themselves in another great position to make a deep post season run by being a host site for the district tournament. The tournament is going to be a dog fight. Good luck to all teams.

I am a known supporter of SH Raider Baseball so I'm not in any way saying anything bad about the program or the coach because both are proven winners and very good! But I will make a comment about pitch counts. 146 pitches is EXTREMELY high. Little League has pitch counts for a reason. It's to protect arms. High School should think about going in that direction. I don't care how conditioned a kids arm is 100+ pitches is danger zone for high school kids. Think of all the extra pitches beside the 146. 7 x 7 warm up pitches for innings, lets say around 30 warm up pitches in the bullpen before the game. That's almost 200 pitches. No parent in their right mind should think that many pitches in a game is necessary or ok. I have coached a lot of baseball on several levels. I coach high school age kids now and when a pitcher gets to 80 it begins what I like to call the red zone. I start thinking about other options. Protecting arms is the most important thing. I'm not saying coach over threw the kid. He knows his players better than anyone. But it don't need to be done on every outing. I'm sure there has been times where every team in district 12AA had a pitcher with a high pitch count in a game. Let's just not point fingers at the SH vs Page game.

Coach George speaks highly of the LHP Denton. I liked what I saw also. Although Page has dropped 3 straight district games I think Coach George has done a very good job with this group. They will do well in the district tournament. Would like to see them and SH make into the Region. SH has got to find a way to beat MC. I know 5 losses in a row is not sitting well with Raider Baseball. I think SH makes it into the Region just because of the pitching depth. This years district tournament is going to be interesting like many others have in the past. SH, MC, Page, and Summit all could advance. The Columbia Daily Herald reports that Summit dropped a 4-3 decision to Lewis County last night but no game details.

My kids are playing too much now. It's hard for me to make it to games. Although I was at the Page vs SH game on Monday night. Good ball game. I'm friends with both coaches. I would have liked to see how the game would have went if Moyer would have got to stay in game. The lefty that came in for Page has a bright future. Idk what to say about Usher throwing so many pitches. In my opinion the games I have seen him and Barksdale throw they throw behind in the count way too much but both a very good pitchers. They've won a lot of games for SH. I hope to make more games once the district tournament begins.
  10. Columbia Post 19 is still needing teams. Tournament changes - $350.00 Entry Fee, $5.00 Gate Fee for Fans.

SH bounced back from a tough loss to Tullahoma beating Summertown 6-3 Thursday at the Loretto Tournament. Barksdale and Stewart looked very good on the mound.

MP will be improved I believe just for the fact that Bassham has taken the program back over. Not that Roberts was a bad coach or not successful because he was successful but Bassham is a legend in these parts and he covers every part of the game. MP will be prepared! Losing Ring will hurt. Who takes his place on the mound? Can they put up runs? CA will once again be in the mix in the end. Logsdon is the player to watch but can he return from an injury? Can other players step up while he is out? Thornton (spelling) is another name that could help the team’s success. You can't count CA out because they are well coached and find ways to win. Richland will be tough and well coached. Richland teams can always swing the bat well. C. Jordan and Pettus will be a players to watch and will determine much of the team’s success. Much like every team pitching is the key. Culleoka has a new coach. Will the players respond to him? Daly will be the heart of this team. Will teams pitch to him? The addition of Fly will help the pitching staff. Adams and Harris will be big parts of the team’s success and must provide hitting so that teams don't pitch around Daly. Cornersville could be successful behind the arms of Looney and Callender. Will Callender be recovered from an arm injury? Looney can be tough to beat as long as he has solid defense behind him. The big bat in the lineup will come from Blackburn. Hampshire will have to play defense to stay in ball games. Errors has been their worst enemy in the past couple years. They may have the best overall pitcher in the district with Blalock when he is focused and all pitches are working for him. He can't allow errors to get him frustrated. The batting line up will have to put up enough runs to support the errors that will be made. Santa Fe has a new coach also. Will the players respond to him? Anderson and Holcomb could be the leaders of this team but will they step up? Potts could be a big bat in the lineup. Overall the team needs a lot of improvement but the athletes are there but do they turn into baseball players. I think this district is wide open. Who steps up when needed the most. Pitching, capitalizing on scoring opportunities and getting routine outs is the key in this district. A lot of the players are familiar with each other so this could be some fun baseball to watch. Good luck to all teams, coaches and players!
  17. Sorry meaning more like twice within a weeks time.
  18. This could be the year that 11A goes in to the Region Tournament a little stronger than 12A. My picks - Round 1 Summertown (9-20) vs. Richland (25-5) Culleoka (10-18) vs. Wayne County (11-15) Santa Fe (13-16) vs. Collinwood (19-8) Loretto (12-14) vs. Mt. Pleasant (21-3) Culleoka has been playing better and I think they get the upset win although it may not be that much of upset but WC is the higher seed. Culleoka/WC game will be the only close game in Round 1. All other games will be 15+. Semifinals Richland vs Culleoka Mt. Pleasant vs Collinwood MP beats Collinwood by 15+. Culleoka plays Richland closer than they did in the district tournament and keeps the game close for a while but Richland pulls away late in the 3Q. Richland by 10+. Finals Richland vs Mt. Pleasant This could be another classic! I just don't see Richland beating MP twice in a row although I'm not saying it can't happen but I'm going with MP by 5+ in regulation. Good luck to all teams! It should be some exciting basketball.

I think SH will be at the top. The pitching staff is outstanding with 3 or 4 pitchers seeing a lot of mound time last year in big games. SH is always well coached and prepared. The program is one of the best in the state. As far as Summit, Page, GC, and MC I think all of those teams could finish in any order. All teams are well coached. The new coaches at Page and GC will do fine. Both coaches have played and/or coached in big games. Players will respond to them both. A couple of the teams could slip in a win against SH but I still think SH will finish at the top. LC, HC, EH, and Fairview will all compete for the final 4 spots in the district. I believe LC will be the best of the group. As in most cases and districts pitching is the key along with whoever has the hot bats! Putting pressure on opposing defenses and being aggressive. If you want to see some good fun baseball this is the district to see it in. Players to watch: SH - R. Helgren - 3B SH - C. Barksdale - LHP/OF SH - J. Usher - SS/RHP SH - D. Stewart - RHP/1B GC - T. Gilbert - INF/RHP Summit - D. Burdick - SS LC - C. Owen - Utility/RHP LC - R. Bell - OF/RHP HC - K. Miley - C/1B/DH I know the other teams have players that should be watched so please feel free to add to the list of players.
  21. Coach Laxson will do a good job. Players seem to really like him from what I seen. He had plenty of baseball experience and knows how to win. Played for some good programs GCHS, Martin Methodist, and Columbia Post 19. As far as GCHS being 0-10 against SH. Are you sure that is right? I know in 2010 SH swept the season series then defeated GC in the District Championship game but then GC beat SH for the Region Championship in like a 10 Inning game for the ages. It was exciting for sure. GC, SH, & MC is some of the best most intense baseball games you can find in Tennessee.
