  1. Dickson County's defense has kept them in all their games, look for them to do this again. It's up to the Dickson County offense to do decide this one late. I still give it to Riverdale to shut it down late and secure the win as they did last year. If your wondering how I know anything about the game last year being a Dobyns Bennett fan, I've got family in Dickson.
  2. Dobyns Bennett 38 - Elizabethton 7 DB with 5 touchdowns and a field goal Elizabethton scores one for Wooten
  3. Totally agree with you on players break out games and play calling being the best its been all year. I like how they rotated in #45 Jordan Lawson and #32 Chris Sensabaugh on offense and #9 James Tempelton on defense. Did a good job and got some reps, will help down the road. I was wondering why #18 Clayton Kilgore and #14 Reid King weren't on the field much. I believe they were unable to practice due to illness earlier in the week. In mentioning the Ring to Dukart connection I didn't mean for touchdowns or big yardage. I meant that Dukart is usually who caught the 1 or 2 passes for decent yardage in the previous four games. I didnt expect the stats to be stellar.
  4. I ask you the same question, how many points did you get off turnovers. Umm, say all 14 of your points.
  5. Nice victory over perennial Sevier County, I'm afraid we all might be taking our licks out on the Smokey Bears this year. I believe Coach Smith might finally have the offense rolling, good to see out of our sister city in the 5A upper northeast. I'll keep it simple, Science Hill is just to athletic in this one. Topper's win by two touchdowns or more.
  6. I asked Oak Ridge to take care of Ooltewah when they get their chance, but kudos to the Govs for beating the Ridgers to the punch. Simply stated...high five on the win! from an Indian fan.
  7. If the remainder of our conference opponents, save Science Hill, are similar to Jefferson County, write off the Ring/Crawford quarterback controversy. I think it was dispelled tonight by the Ring to Crawford passing clinic and again, like every week, in the Ring to Dukart connection. Nice play calling on Graham's part, save early turnovers and Jefferson County may not have scored any points. I believe they ran one play off a turnover for a score and two plays off a turnover for a score. Great job out of Watson again tonight. Speculate all you want, for a confidence booster, a collective community sigh of relief, and for the team to get the monkey off their proverbial back...it was a very good win by the players and coaches, keep up the hardwork. Let's Roll Tribe.
  8. Dobyns Bennett 20 Jefferson County 7 Two touchdowns, two field goals for the Tribe. Patriots will score one late when the defense gets tired.
  9. I will say after attending John Sevier's Area I playoff games last year against two middle school teams from Jefferson County, the Patriots have some talent coming up. Had size and hit hard for a middle school bunch. Maury and Jefferson City, I believe it was. If the kids stay with it, Jefferson County should be back at the top in a year or two.
  10. Your right, haven't seen much of Jamie at quarterback. I haven't seen many of the other talented juniors for that matter. I don't say that with ill intentions, I just seriously haven't seen them physically play. I'll be the first to tell you. I'll admit when I'm wrong, just have to see it to believe it. Jamie, love the kid, watched him grow while playing ball with his brother. Don't have any doubt in his ability. If there is a change, I'd say it would occur during the Elizabethton week. Pulling the regular quarterback during a conference game week might be too much for this week.
  11. I haven't seen enough of Jamie at the quarterback position to say he's all around better than Bart. I agree with you it moves at a quicker pace...on the ground. I've attended the games, home and away, not sure I've seen Jamie have a pass attempt. With saying Bart is the better passer, I say that on potential alone. Call me crazy, your entitled to it...I did say 'in my opinion' in which I'm entitled to as well. Deep down I do believe we could be 4-0. I also agree that major changes need to occur for progress to be made on offense, just not sure its at the quarterback position yet. We spectators are always the first to judge. Don't know who you are, it's easier when you know the poster. On the other hand, I never knew being graduated from a high school or not participating in the sport I start topics for was a stipulation to starting those topics. If being a former/current football player at the respective institution was that requirement, half the members of this forum would not be allowed. I'm a fan, I have my opinions, I can state them. As can you. I check the scores on this website before I do my online homework on Saturday mornings, so sorry I'm up and starting my day by 11:00am. I won't apologize for caring about my community school, maybe I care about Kingsport too much. Thats mine. I started this thread to facilitate opinions on the game, and I appreciate yours. Keep them coming.
  12. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" , Sigh. Let me put it in perspective for you DBstudent. The Dobyns Bennett student section has never been the crazy spirited fan inspiring group that we former and current students think that it is. Ask anybody who knows anything about a football atmosphere and they will agree. Yes, the offense sputtered again, however...sustaining a multiple play and first down drive for a touchdown as they did in the first quarter is more than they have done much of this year. Again, you take away one mistake at the end of the game, i.e. Hogg's fumble, and they would have gone into overtime for a sudden death attempt like last week. Yes, our defense has generally been the only commendable part of the team over the past few weeks. Coach Watson is a defensive genius, he is doing a heck of a job, nobody can deny that. On the topic of the quarterback situation, to you and to all that read this thread, Bart Ring and Jamie Crawford are generally the same player at the quarterback position...in my opinion. Bart seems to be a better passer than Jamie, and both rush the same out of the option. At this point, it might be detrimental to the betterment of the offense to have a quarterback controversy...if you want to call it that. I was pleased with the decision to move the quarterback under center. There were signs of improvement in route running, although getting the ball to the open receiver is still an issue. If you think Jamie can get the ball to the open receivers your entitled to that, however I have to go with Coach Clark in thinking Bart is still the better quarterback. Jamie is a better asset at the skill positions at this point. That said, look for the offense to gain some ground in the remainder of the season. Conference play is generally better to the Indians compared to the tough schedule we have played thus far. Oh, ye of little faith. It's always easier to support your team when their winning. True fans stand by their team when the going gets tough. Might I remind you as well that in the last five years, in 2003, an 8-2 Dobyns Bennett team was a botched punt away from defeating #1 5A ranked Riverdale in Murfreesboro for the right to compete for a state championship. We should be the first to know (from recent experience) that 10-0 doesn't always mean playoff success.
  13. Let's harken back to the days of Jeff Jennings, Scooter Houston, Brent Mears, Thomas Anderson, and the many countless other standouts for these two programs who have participated in this Big East rivalry over the years. In recent years this game has lacked the luster it once held, but with this season becoming one of the strangest of recent memory anything could happen. Dobyns Bennett (1-3) is coming off another bitter loss, losing to #2 5A Oak Ridge 14-7 at home. Jefferson County (2-2) rebounded from last weeks debocale at Campbell County, defeating #9 4A Morristown East 14-2 at home. It seems apparent that in Dobyns Bennett's previous four games this season the Indians defense plays tough, always keeping them in the game from kickoff to final whistle. A little offense is all the Tribe needs to right the ship as they move into conference play. Jefferson County, on the other hand, is somewhat of a mystery. With losses against 4A Greeneville and Campbell County one could jump to conclusions, however with a victory over perennial 4A powerhouse Morristown West and a talented 4A Morristown East squad, it is tough to pass judgement on this Jefferson County team. Let the information and predictions flow people.
  14. Oak Ridge, we DB fans appreciate the comments. Was nice to see another 'down to the final minutes affair', unfornutaley both teams don't like to win in their own stadiums here latley. I don't believe anybody in the remainder of our schedule is as tough as our last three games. Tonight I saw phenomenal speed out of #5 and somewhat of a underachieving yet good performance by #2. Alot to be said about our offense but not enough space. Defense played another good ball game. Every team we've played so far seem to get their yardage yet can't punch it in. We'll figure it out, ole Clark has too. Correct, we hope to see you again in the playoffs. Hopefully in the second round, so we can get over the proverbial stumbling block of the first round. My one request, and you can pass this on to the boys please, take down Ooltewah this year. Their recent grandeur is annoying. Roll Tribe and Go Cats.

You people crack me up. Whether advertising dollars go into the poll or not, the poll is flawed. It is also rather humorous that you all are worried about win/loss records in the third week. Dobyns Bennett, for example, is 1-2. It just so happens they beat current #5 Tennessee High at the Stone Castle (a few big plays away or not). The fact of the matter, if you lose, you lose. Dobyns Bennett has now lost to then #9 William Blount 24-14 and #7 Knox Bearden 8-7, in the AP 5A poll. This week, we take on #2 Oak Ridge. We will give you the fact that we lost, cant deny it and we know why we lost. No excuses here. After the effort our boys have put into these past two games, to be ranked 3rd, behind Daniel Boone, is an insult. No disrespect to Daniel Boone or Sullivan South, but neither Science Hill/Unicoi County/Greeneville or South Greene/Greeneville/Sullivan Central are anywhere along the caliber of William Blount/Knox Bearden/Oak Ridge. I understand, alot of that has to do with scheduling difficulties, classifications, and travel expenses. However, Sullivan South, I'll give you your due. Everybody else, take a back seat. As Cap1 said, until you schedule these teams and win, 1A, 2A, and 3A schools have a hard time claiming anything. Kingsport dominates the poll. Deal with it.
  16. I'm interested in TSSAA's reclassification in the summer of 2009. Does anybody have any incite on anything really, I'm generally interested in it all. Does anybody know of any schools moving up or moving down in their respective back yards? More specifically, does anybody know what schools might move up to 5A in the upper east Tennessee region Dobyns Bennett is in? What are Morristown East's, Morristown West's, Daniel Boone's, and David Crockett's school enrollments? To my understanding, these are the four schools that are closest to moving up in Dobyns Bennett's region.
  17. I suppose it can go unsaid that this game will come down to how well Dobyns Bennett's offense wants to play. Oak Ridge knows our defense will hold, not allowing anywhere near 53 points like Bradley Central. However, I think Oak Ridge will score anywhere from 14-21 points Friday night. I hope I'm wrong, but thats my opinion. Plain and simple, once again, it comes down to Dobyns Bennett's offense. Anymore decenting opinions or other avenues to explore? By the way, could some of you Oak Ridge fans direct me to an online version of your cities newspaper? Also, what do you Ridgers think of a Dobyns Bennett v. Oak Ridge JV and Freshman game series (both teams play on the same night at the same sight) like we do with Sevier County. Honestly, I don't see why more teams don't do this other than possibly for the fact of field conditions.
  18. Just some perspective here folks. I spoke with my grandfather while he was visiting this weekend, he is a 1950's graduate of Dobyns Bennett and played fullback on the 1947, 1948, and 1949 state champion teams. He attended the game last Friday against Knox Bearden and enlightened me with some relevant information. He told me that in his years at Dobyns Bennett the program went 51-1, somewhat similar to what Dobyns Bennett has experienced in recent decades minus the state championships, but the kicker was that following that five year domination stretch, the 1950 Indian squad endured a 2-8 season. Now I don't believe we'll have to endure anything close to a 2-8 season, at worst a 6-4 season, but our opponent this Friday night can attest its not easy to see your alma mater struggle when you are used to dominance. Just a perspective folks, don't give up on the kids though. Be patient. They'll do themselves, the team, the school, and the city right.
  19. Thanks for the names and numbers and yes your fans travel well. Have a question though...how many returning starters do you have at Oak Ridge this season? I think its apparent, through coacht and otherwise, that we have very few.
  20. I have to agree. A few suggestions...actually implement a base package of plays that you know you can run everytime, institute formations that put the quarterback under center seeing as shotgun snaps are a problem at the moment, use a fullback, find a tight end, run play calls in with receivers (forget the no huddle). I understand this years offense is a ball control offense, but it could be more fluid.
  21. Ladies and gentleman lets get this rivalry underway. Dobyns Bennett comes into the game with a 1-2 record, beating 4A Tennessee High 19-13 and losing to 5A William Blount 24-14 and 5A Knox Bearden 8-7 in overtime. Oak Ridge comes into the game with a 2-0 record, beating 3A Knox Fulton 30-14 and 5A Bradley Central 53-26. Oak Ridge has to be looking to reassert themselves with the Indians this year after last years loss in the Ridge. Dobyns Bennett's defense has showed they can stick with anybody for four quarters, however there are still major question marks on the offense. Your thoughts and opinions, let them begin.
  22. Haha, it'd be nice to see. I know from attending both games this season that the team energy following the returns was amazing not only for the players but for the fans. If William Blount wouldn't kick it deep after Dukarts return, I don't see why Bearden would try kicking it deep. If they do, however, I'd say they'll kick it to Hogg or Taylor. Either way, the kick return team is well put together.
  23. I understand from observation that Dobyns Bennett is down this year. However, no matter the skill level of Bearden, you have to play a smash mouth football game to beat this years Indians. What this years team may lack in skill players, size, and experience they make up for with heart and a drive to play hard until the last whistle blows. No, you can't win games on heart and effort alone, but I think you have to have seen these kids play before you can count them out as so many of you have without real knowledge of how good Bearden has played in their first two games. I feel Dobyns Bennett has gained alot from their first two games. Dobyns Bennett had almost three minutes left to attempt a tie or win against William Blount if it wasn't for a mental error and a mishandling of a punt by the return man. The score does not attest to the outcome. Dobyns Bennett will play a hard fought whole game this week, like last week. Will Bearden come to play four hard fought quarters at J.Fred? Tennessee High and West are most likely along the same talent level, but Carter and William Blount are no comparison. Who that has commented on this thread so far can really attest to the learning or bettering of Bearden's team in playing Carter and West? If you can, please enlighten me. Dobyns Bennett has seemed to suprise most who consider them an underdog in a contest. For that reason, I say Dobyns Bennett suprises most in a close game.
  24. I'll have to let Stump know he's a legend on CoachT now. He'd be proud. Anyway, hope to see some of you at Carson Newman. This scrimmage should give us a pretty good idea of what to expect in the coming months.
  25. I hate to say it, but like any other DB graduate or fan can attest, before you can rank any team ahead of DB in this northeast Tennessee region they must beat DB. Potential is one thing, actually doing it is another. Let the players do the talking this year, not Doug Fritz and especially not the Johnson City Press. Roll Tribe.
