  1. Yes we are missing some of the offensive fire power we've had the last few years, but don't count us out yet. We are getting better week by week. We had only 2 returning starters on both sides of the ball, so the lack of experience has creeped in during some games. We are itching to put a complete game together. Hopefully this happens Saturday night.
  2. Well, we are not as talented as the team last year, but I believe we are better defensively. Offense has been trying to find itself. We have some playmakers though. Should be more of a football game this year; instead of, a basketball game. The same coaches from Memphis East, so the coaching staffs are very familiar with one another. Should be interesting.
  3. You all are right, Cordova did not show up at all. From start to finish. Coach has got some work to do to change the culture over there. Mental toughness is what he has been preaching. So, I expect some changes to be made. If I know Wimberly, this team will look totally different from yesterday at the end of the season. Whitehaven played a great physical game. Can't come with that soft stuff, and that is what Cordova did.

  5. Here we go!!! Soooo, you know Wimberly personally or something? I'm sure the situations are not the same. So before you talk like you know someone's character, please know the facts. Wimberly sitting out would not solve anything. The link rule applies to any coach or trainer that had contact with the athlete. So being that 7 out of the 10 coaches at Cordova was on his staff at East, Wimberly stepping down wouldn't solve anything. You would be left with 3 coaches with 85 players... Yes, everyone knew the risk, but when you have a reorganization of a school such as East, you have a letter from East stating the move of the students was not for athletic reasons, and you have met every other transfer exception, plus in Lynn's case he was enrolled in the school before hire date of Wimberly. When you have all of those factors, the kids should be eligible hands down. There have been kids granted eligibility with far less supporting evidence. So the risk was always there, but with all of that documentation, it should have swung in their favor. Like I stated before, there are kids in Memphis with the same conditions (coaching link) that were granted eligibility. I'm sure they don't have as much as these kids had. But just know what you are talking about. I hate when people make assumptions about people they don't even know.
  6. Yes, from what I understand, that is exactly what they did. No real explanation how they came up with this decision. How it works for some and not for others.Too much secrecy and no transparency. If it was the same across the board, that would be one thing, but this just makes no sense. I don't think the parents are just going to sit back though. We will see.
  7. Remember, they have a new coach...different mentality. ijs
  8. coach10ac, you are correct. Coach and everybody else is baffled that TSSAA's final ruling was to make those 3 kids ineligible. They did everything they were supposed to. They filed the hardship and even got a letter from East's Executive Principal saying they were in good standing and the move was NOT for athletic reasons. They still made those kids ineligible under the coaching link. Otherwise, they would be eligible, like the other 12 kids that left the overall bad situation at East. They are clearly not about the kids. Justin Lynn was at Cordova before coach even got the job. So that is a double whammy for that kid. Believe me, they are a different offense with that kid pulling the trigger. It is mystifying that kids from Kingbury are eligible to play at East under the same situation with a coaching link present. Cordova is asking how that can be and their kids are not. Anyway, I figure it to be a good and exciting contest between two good teams that may meet again sometime in November. Cordova's offense is more explosive than Whitehaven's. Keys: Cordova needs a fast start, but has ability to come from behind with explosive plays. Special Teams may play a factor. A kickoff return or punt return for TD can be difference in game. Both teams have been good at causing turnovers, so the turnover battle is crucial in this one. This game is a strength check for both teams, and will help both make adjustments going forward.
  9. Huh? Man you must really be in your feelings now. We were not even talking about that. But I only put a few names out as well. That rule that you speak of, I'm sure is what you are hoping for. Yes it does state that you cannot follow a coach, but I believe those kids left East before the hiring of Wimberly. The East kids left and went all over the city. Your school even benefited from our situation at East .So, I take it that you are trolling now. Not going to go down that road you are trolling on. I'm sure you don't really want to play that game. Good luck on your upcoming season. 100
  10. First of all, the RB had been knowing Coach since his Uncle played for him at East. So, it is not uncommon to talk with people you know while at a common event. As for following him, I doubt that seriously. Are you guys the only school allowed to talk to an 8th grader or their parents. Also, what kind of numbers did Mullins put up at Trezevant that made him a monster. As far as I know, they may have thrown the ball to him once a game. Now he is the leading returning receiver in the city. Let's address when you played East and beat us. When Kimbrow was there, you High-Lowed our best D-lineman which was also an O-lineman the first series. Kimbrow already hurt his ankle severely early that season vs MUS. You all knew that. His ankle was twisted again against you guys. I don't know if it was on purpose or not, but he did not play anymore that game or that year. Yes, we lost. The next year, you came to the fairgrounds and lost, even though they called back 3 touchdowns for us. The next year we lost with Ray Taylor (the RBs uncle that you keep referring to). Our starting Center was out that game (which was also our a starting DL), another O-lineman, a D-back, so that threw off the entire dynamic of the team. One guy for us equalled 2 postions. I think we finish that game by putting our FB at offensive line just to finish, but hey we lost. The next year, our most talented team did not get to play you guys. They lost to an undefeated Muscle Shoals team in Alabama, and yes we blew the semifinal game to finish 12-2. I am confident, that was the best team in Memphis that year. 2016, we did play and we both won the state. Would have been a good game I think. Yes last year you beat a severely over-matched and depleted team due to the change in the school to STEM, but I don't think it was that easy. If I remember, East was still in the game within 6 points late into the fourth quarter and driving to take the lead. Then the QB fumbled and gave up a TD. Now we did come to your place with those two teams for a scrimmage. I remember we won both times. There you have it. I'm saying that don't think that Cordova will be a push over too long with Wimberly over there. You all know that he is not afraid of competition. He believes to be the Big Dawg, then you have to go to his house and beat him. It should be good for Memphis. Also, since you want to drop names, let's do so: Will Redmond (San Francisco - 3rd Round, 68th Pick 2016) Cassius Vaughn (Detroit Lions - Free Agent 2010, 7yrs; Won Grey Cup for Toronto Argonauts) Dan Williams (Arizona Cardinals - 1st Round, 26th Pick 2010, 8yrs) Timothy Taylor '17 (University of Memphis) Eric Banks '16 (University of Texas - San Antonio) - Leader in Nation for Sack Fumbles Teddrick McGhee '16 (University of Texas - San Antonio) - Started as Freshman DeVante Turner '16 (University of Central Missouri) - Conference Freshman of the Year Ray Taylor '15 (Mississippi Valley) Daniel Franklin '14 (Alcorn State) - SWAC Champion - 2 year Starter Tyler Stepney '14 (Murray State) Christian Morris '13 (University of Mississippi) - Army All-American (Neck Injury ended career) Herbert Moore '13 (University of Mississippi) Brian Kimbrow '12 (Vanderbilt University) - Army All-American Will Redmond '12 (Mississippi State University) - Semper Fi All-American Latarius Brady '12 (University of Memphis) - Conference USA Champion (Starter) Joseph Gammon '12 (Murray State University (3-Year Starter) Brandon Ivory '10 (University of Alabama) 2 Year Starter and 2 Time National Champion Jamison Knox '10 (Alcorn State University) 4 Year Starter - SWAC Champion Cassius Vaughn '06 (University of Mississippi) Dan Williams '05 (University of Tennessee) I think East record for player development while Wimberly was there can stack up with you guys or anybody else. That is not everybody, but I just wanted to let you know that Whitehaven is not the only school putting kids at D1 Schools. Now what I stated was factual. Now no disrespect, Gene was not a 4yr starter at UNC. Great coach from what I hear though. They (Fairley) did beat Cordova in a SPRING scrimmage. Not sure if coach had all his players or how much they grasped a new offense and defense in less than 10 practices. Hey, maybe Fairley should schedule Cordova next year. I know Cordova and Whitehaven have to play every year. This is going to be a good rivalry. I can see it.
  11. Lol!! Man you are so funny. So Wimberly was following one kid around, huh? So, it is easy to say that you didn't realize that Wimberly's son also attended Bellevue for 3 years and is in the same class as AP. So, he was at the track meets and football games to support his own son. I suspect that you probably didn't see him this year, even though Bellevue had some very talented guys again, right? Never said you all were scared to play. I just said you all didn't play his best teams. You seem a little defensive. I would hope you are not scared to play a 4A team with a school population of 550 at the time. I never said you didn't play top competition...but when will you play MUS, a top MS team (South Panola wanted to play you when they were dominate..Oh I remember, the money wasn't right or they wanted you to play at there place, some minute issue like that), A nationally ranked team from the SOUTH? The PEOPLE want to know. You have the talent to do it! Yes, Mullins left Trezevant for East. You said that to say?...I believe Trezevant was having some problems at the time (well documented), the coach left, and he wanted to come to East originally out of 8th grade (Kingsbury Middle). He went to Trezevant because of transportation at the time. I know it is hard for you to believe that top athletes want to go to other school, but it happens. Coach Wimberly led teams, also run the ball too. Jamison Knox (1000 yard rusher; Alcorn State DB started all 4 years), Brian Kimbrow (1500 consistantly, All-American; Vanderbilt), Devante Turner (1500 yrd rusher; Central Missouri, Freshman of the Year in his Conference), Tim Taylor (1500 yrds, State Champion; University of Memphis). I think that is a pretty good showing for RBs in his system. Soooo, I don't know what you were trying to say about the RB from Sherwood's decision. You guys are taletned. No one disputes that. I don't think that anyone blames a kid for wanting to come there (on their own). For the most part, no one would have a real problem with your dominance. The problem comes in when you actively call players on other teams to come their. This is the issue that everyone has around the city. Not saying it is the coaching staff, but it is somebody. I agree, with the talent this year, it is Championship or Bust for you guys. Lastly, I am a Mustang for life. I have not given up on them. I just know it will take them some time. Wimberly is a Mustang! I will support him to the end. Just like you Haven alums do.
  12. Timeout! First off, why would Coach need to beg anybody to come to East. He had just won a Championship in 4A with 2A numbers. He has been developing top talent at East Since Dan Williams ('05) when he was his DC and working him out personally. He has produced 3 REAL All-Americans and 3 NFL players to date. He has been sending kids to school, especially D1's, since he has been coaching. Sooooo, where do you get this from? From my understanding, he doesn't bash other schools to get kids, but for some reason, (the kids and parents say this), he is bashed by the Whitehaven staff constantly. The running back from Sherwood is with Wimberly because he coached his Uncle. His uncle was in a similar situation and the family was happy with the job the coaching staff did with him, so they decided to send the nephew to WImberly and his staff. Wimberly has a ton of college guys and all his Pro guys come back to show the kids what level they need to be at. Why do you think Mullins went from a relative unknown to one of the best players in the city. Don't forget that Wimberly and staff developed Sean Adams. If it were not for his unfortunate death, he would most likely be the number one recruit in the city or state. Nobody believed in that kid coming out of Bellevue, but was developed into a stud! It is common knowledge that Whitehaven coaches were in constant contact with Mullins's mom upon the announcement that Coach Wimberly was moving to Cordova. They used scare tactics about his eligibility if he went to Cordova. This is why he decided to go to Whitehaven. Not because he thinks Whitehaven coaches are better. I happen to know that Coach Wimberly could care less about THe Haven. He is not afraid to play them and let's not forget that he has beaten them before (2013). The Haven didn't play East when Wimberly had his two best teams in 2015 and 2016. AP left East because of the new STEM program. They would not let him register because of requirements that the district said they would waive and place certain kids on probation upon entry. He was with Wimberly ALL summer long leading up to his freshman year. So, let's stop the FAKE news. Notice that when Wimberly and staff send kids to school, they play fairly quickly. They don't normally disappear and ride the bench. They also graduate in a timely manner. Cause I know that is always you all's argument. I just had to speak on the lies. Even though coach is gone, I wish him the best. Just know, now that the playing field is equal, it is just a matter of time. It won't take long before they overtake The Haven. You all need to be worried about Major and Central with those coveted Bellevue kids. Good luck to all, but stop with the lies!
  13. I agree. This would have been a big time game the last 2 years, but with the depleting numbers at East as a result of the school change, it has greatly affected the grit and playmaking ability we have come to see from East players. All that being said, we have enough to compete. Cordova game was just a sheer lack of effort on our part. This will be a true test to see how much we have improved. We have to execute on offense and tackle on D. Coaching is going to have to play an overwhelming part in this game, but it can be done. Done it before.
  14. Well I think this East team is trying to find their identity. We have never lost this many players at one time (37 in 2 years) and not been able to get new players in. The new STEM stipulations have hurt the team's ability to reload which has hurt the depth and future of the team. You all have a great young player (AP) as a result of that. Trezevant benefitted by receiving another young future star (Falandis) that is equally as good and countless others. These kids would have been real difference makers. Can't cry over spilled milk. So we have to compensate for that and mix and match guys until we get the right fits. We will continue to get better and will figure it out with the competition that we face. We are not nearly as bad as we showed against Cordova. Heck we score 32 points and was in the redzone 2 other times and should have scored. So, the coaches have to figure this team out. Central will be a good test to see where we are.
  15. Well last season we did lose, but played terrible. That game was a lot closer than the score says. One bad call changed the game. Plus, made a lot of changes after that game. Totally different team by mid season, but hey that was last year. He was talking about the Juniors on our team. D1 WR (Mizzou),D1 LB (Mizzou, Miss State),D1 OL (Ole Miss), RB 6-1 215, State Champion QB; Seniors OL 6-7 360, 6-3 285...So we have a little something too. We just don't have 70+ players like you guys, but that has never mattered to us. We are looking forward to our schedule. Should be a lot of fun!
  16. I don't know what scrimmage you were at, but you all scored twice to our three. Some of our better players were out that scrimmage, but hey Spring doesn't matter. It is in November when it truly counts. We got booted out of the top 10 last year after losing our first game to Cordova. So, polls really don't mean anything. We'd rather stay out of them. Only matters if you are the last man standing. See you in Novemeber!
  17. We are here. No lie, everyone was confident last year in the type of team we had, but that is why you play the game. Turnovers, complacency, busted assignments, etc can even things out. We knew that if we came with our A-game then the game would not be close. Never imagined that with those seniors, we would play so poorly in 1 quarter. You guys brought it to us and deserved the victory bc our guys didn't play like they wanted it and coaches took some things for granted. Now the roles are somewhat reversed. Only time will tell how both teams respond. Good luck!
  18. BHS, I don't know why you place so much stock in a scrimmage that took place in July with 4 days of practice in pads at the time. Our OL was not in tact (Wrister wasn't there for 1) and 2 more starters in the secondary were not present that day. Still, if I remember correctly, we scored just as many times as you did. Besides the first series, your offense couldn't move the ball. I left there thinking that is the worst I have ever seen a Whitehaven team; hence, here you are undefeated in 6A. A couple of days later, we destroyed a Memphis Central team (5A district Champs and 2nd round of playoffs) by 3 or 4 TDs in a SCRIMMAGE. I don't know about you, but scrimmages are meant to find out about your team and what adjustments to make before the season. So I wouldn't put too much stock in a scrimmage. To each their own, you have your opinion. We are used to people outside of East to pick or root against us. We actually prefer it that way!
  19. Guys, we have nothing to lose. On paper, yes Ridgeway should win, but that can be said about half the opponents we have played this season. No one expected us to be 10-2 with what all we lost last year. All the pressure is on Ridgeway. They had all the studs coming back. What I can tell you is that we are going to show up ready to play and will not have the mindset "hoping" to win. It is an expectation. We are excited and eager at the opportunity to prove everyone wrong. That's all you can ask for. Whoever wins this one should give Memphis a solid representative for Round 4 (semi-finals)!
  20. Yes we have been looking forward to this one. We made a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes that cost us in the first half and an inadvertent whistle cost us a touchdown to Ridgeway on a play we caused a fumble and recovered. As bad as we felt we played that night we got it back to 26-23 with numerous opportunities to win. The last TD they scored was on last play of game when we tried a Hail Mary and QB fumbled in end zone. Coach felt especially bad after game, cause he felt that he didn't put the players in the best position to win so he told them that that game was on him. So I suspect that he will bring his A game for this one. Everyone in Mustang country is excited about the opportunity to play Ridgeway again and to be playing in Memphis!
  21. Hey, we are happy to be here! No one expected us to be any good this year since we lost so many good players last year, but we are back. We are receiver by committee with Tim Taylor at RB. We try to be balanced as always. We have to stop their potent rushing attack and do not give up any cheap plays in passing game. Should be a good one. We have nothing to lose. Like I said, nobody expected us to really be in this position at the beginning of the year. The pressure is on everyone else,
  22. No, no! I didn't take it any type of way. We lost, fair and square. Just want another crack at them. We are rooting for Memphis! M-town vs Errbody! We all have to step our game up and start bringing more GOLD home to Memphis. Not just a basketball town.
  23. So, you are counting us out already BlackHavenSenator? It's cool, we are used to it. This is why you play the game. I hope that both of us win this week so that we can meet again. It will be classic! We both have to take care of business this week first.
