Trinity fans witnessed a transformed team Friday night. We did not hit the field ready to play. But as the game progressed, players began to emerge. Jabriel was electric to watch, as usual. But then he fumbled, and the scary end of the game took place. During that minute of play, the rest of the TCA team realized winning was up to them. They could no longer watch to see what Jabriel was going to do next. The ball was out of his hands. AND we (the parents and fans) were treated to an exhibition of intense team ball. Please fill us in on the details. Scores are not listed in the Jackson Sun. I really am interested in this game between Middleton and Scotts Hill. At the Jamboree, I thought Middleton looked like the stronger team. Who did what?

Thanks for your response. I employ the ATC out of my PT clinic, but do not attend the games because my son plays for a different school. I will discuss with her the importance of waiting to enter the field until play has ceased. She has been working as an ATC for 6 years, so I tend to give her the benefit of the doubt.

At the Middleton game Thursday, there was an issue with the ATC entering the field to push water during a time out. The head ref made the ATC leave the field, and refused to allow her on the field for cramps, injury, etc until he signaled her on. And, he always signaled a coach on first, then the trainer after the coach asked for her. The visiting team did not have an athletic trainer. Their team was suffering multiple cramps, but the ATC from Middleton was never allowed on the field to help, just their coaches. What is the rule on this? I have talked to the ATC, but not to the head ref, and I was not at the game to judge "dynamics". Her intent was to make sure certain specific players, who cramped last year, actually drank and did not just rinse out their mouth.

Mitch Ross from Bolivar has punted 4 times tonight so far, for an average of 46.3 yds. He just placed one on the 3 yard line.

JB is a great player. TCA has several players this year "capable of carrying the load". Just wait. You will see. We do not select our region, so don't play that card. As for playoffs, that is a long way off. TCA will leave it all on the field every game. Where that takes us will be a fun ride for the players and fans.

Middleton looked much improved tonight. Great to see so many players dressed out for Middleton and Scott's Hill.

Cody Jones, junior quarterback at Jackson Christian. Went 9 for 9 on field goals last year, 23 of 25 on PAT's. Kicked a 48-yd field goal Friday night in the rain. Very talented.

I am rooting for Trinity, but I think Middleton will surprise some people. New coaching staff, lots of enthusiasm, very athletic players.

Jabriel Washington will be quarterback at Trinity. Very impressive as a freshman at wide receiver and safety, also on special teams.

Jackson, TN and our soccer is improving. This year, most high school teams have coaches who either have played soccer or are students of the game. Not so just 2-3 years ago.

Kei Kato, USJ. Multiple goals and assists. Played lots last year as an 8th grader. Improved this year.

I think the bodies are there, in the form of college soccer players. Both men and women college soccer play in the fall. I will be so excited when games are officiated by folks who have either played soccer or have a passion for learning the game.

I agree. If it takes 3 refs to call a basketball game, it definitely takes 3 refs to call a soccer game.

I, too, have been frustrated for years that soccer is not handled with the same professionalism as other sports in TN. Teams have been 45min to an hour late at our last 2 games, but it didn't cause any forfeit discussion, because the refs were 30 min. late. One ref was clueless, and the other ref tried to help him out, constantly stopping the game to explain rules to him. BUT, we need to remember that the football fields are maintained and manicured by the football coaches. They invest a lot of time and effort into the fields. If we want to use their fields, maybe the soccer parents need to volunteer to help with field maintenance in the spring. It will be a nice change when high school soccer is regarded with the seriousness of other high school sports.
