  1. Does anyone know about the young man that was hurt last night for Sequoyah? I understand HIPPA, so no details are needed, just want to know how he was doing. Last night was the first game I have seen this year. I think the team will bounce back. I didn't hear any negative comments, but I'm sure there were some. Hopefully, nothing that a few more wins can't fix. Very nice halftime tributes for some deserving people. BTW, I am pretty sure that TSD was not on Vonore's schedule in at least the last 10 years of the school (Harrison Chilhowee was, LOL). We did scrimmage them a few times in the preseason. They were in our district in basketball. I wasn't in high school at the time, but around 89 or 90 they had a very athletic basketball team.
  2. What are you talking about? I never called out a kid. How could you misinterprete anything that I said? I think that you are way out of line accusing me of this. I never said Jake said anything. I was wrong for posting a rumor and not confirming the source. You know as well as I or anyone else that reads this stuff that parents (well ok not ALL parents, but certainly some people) get on here just to complain and stir up trouble, because they like or dislike someone. I have been a member of coacht for a long time (longer than most people on this thread) and by the the number of my posts I only come on here to read and get info. But NEVER, EVER have I tried to stir up trouble or talk about a kid. Look at my post history and you will see that. I certainly have never called anyone stupid or accused them of having a brain fart (the latter you referred to me). That just simply insults my itelligence and I don't appreciate that. You sir, should not think that everyone is out to get you, and lump me in THAT GROUP. I don't even know you. If I unintentionally, hurt you or your son or any player I apologize. That is certainly not what I am about. But with that said, I certainly expect an apology from you. I will say that your son is an exceptional, running back and linebacker (best on the team in my opinion) and trust me I am not just saying that. I hope he gets (as well as the other players) his/their opportunity to play for a winning team this year. Now, I am guilty of wasting this post on something besides football. With that said I am done. Good Luck. Jason Miller Vonore c/o 94
  3. The more things change, the more they stay the same. That quote fits Sequoyah prefectly. Will this bickering ever end? Sometimes it take more of a man not to get the last word in. Both sides have valid points. I did not attend the GP game, so I can not comment. But I did see the Swater game. I dont know the final stats, but offensively SQHS played well. I like the fact that they are trying to throw the ball. Respectively speaking, I will admit, there are times that I thought they should have ran more with White. All good teams are balanced. In fact two great running teams SQHS 99 and Tellico 94 went deep into playoffs, but they ran into physical defenses can kept them in check with out a passing attack (which I'm sure everyone knows). So that's my few cents worth. I am not a football genius or coach, but I love football with a passion. It is the greatest sport on earth. Lets talk about football and not argue about it. Satterfield can turn this thing around, but bickering can only make it worse. Unfortunately, players read these arguements and take their parent's side. I have heard from some students, that there are some players that do not like (but hopefully respect) coach s. And I hope it is not because of some at home coach bashing.
  4. I belive Dwain Mercer may have a copy of this game. I will have to see if my dad or uncle has a copy. Obviously, it is Vonore and someone, but I think it is sweetwater. Its in black and white and it is hard to tell who is who. I'll find out. Sweetwater won 18-0, I think. Someone from swater may have it as well. If I am not mistaken there may be more games on the tape.
  5. I know the old 1971 annual has all the scores and starting lineups. All the annual in the late sixties has all the scores. vonore's 68-69 team, although not an all monroe couty team, was good as well. They went 7-3-1. Labe Gregory died on the field in the first game against Porter. The final was 0-0. Players and fans were crying and I don't know how they finished the game. they lost the next 2 games to Swater and madisonville, then they won 7 in a row. They lost their coach and also two captains from the 67-68 team to a car accident. The 68-69 team fought through a lot of adversity. I know this because my dad was a captain. Again, not a great team as far as "all-Monroe", but definetly an "all-monroe" story. Jason Miller
  6. Did hear 1 good story. My dad and I were at the Sweetwater Loudon game 2 years ago. We ran into a former coach Don Holcomb. I think he coached at Tellico and Vonore, not sure where else. But he told us a story about Coach Berrong and Kippy Brown. Apparently the 1970 vonore-sweetwater game was a very physical game. A game in which vonore knew they had to be physical with Brown and hit him every play. From what I understand, they did, but he kept getting up and making plays. Holcomb said after the game, Berrong knew that he had a winner in Brown. I know that this story is extemely paraphrased and I hope I did the story some justice. A great coach talking about a great player. If anyone can fill in the details please do so.
  7. Vonore in the fall of 1970 went 9-1. Only loss was to Sweetwater. Beat Madisonville 44-0. Many of their games were not even close. I'm pretty sure that was Ronnie Summey's senior year. It would have been nice to have seen that team play in single A ball the way it is now with 5 classifications. I'm sure they would have made a deep run in the playoffs. Sweetwater was single A then, but if it was like it is today they would not have met in the playoffs. 88-89 team was good. The big three of Lawson, Cooper, Perry. They were 5-0 until they got screwed at Knox Catholic. Terribly officiated game. Then they lost some games that they shouldn't have. Copper Basin was No. 1 at the time, but wasn't 28 points better. They still couldn't get over the Midway hump, but they did have some talent, Lance Wheaton played at UT, I think. No doubt Vonore's QB Billy Lawson could have played big time ball. He had the arm. Over ten years after he was in high school, he and my brother and I were running at vonore and we thought we would see how strong his arm was. So, he gets on one knee on the 50 yard line and calmly throws the ball through the uprights. That is a fact.
  8. Not sure about that, would be nice though. I have heard Steve Marsh,(I think this is right) former UT saftey. I am sure whoever it is will have plenty of college experience.
  9. I know that I don't have a dog in the race, but I would like to give a little advice to the players that quit. (Although I hope that you guys don't read message boards.) I also had three coaches in 4 years and I know how hard it is to go thru coaching changes. I also went through summer workouts with only five or six players participating (including one 8th grader). It does make for a rough season forecast, but I couldn't imagine not wearing the blue and white. If you don't play because you feel that you or your former coach got shafted then you will regret it. If you don't play you WILL regret it 15 years (or sooner) down the road. I know that too, because those players told me afterwards. Look, life and football are not easy, not everything will go your way. Coach Satterfield will put together a great staff, and don't kid yourself, he has put a lot of players in college and I'm sure still has several connections. So, if you are good enough, you will have a shot at the next level. Even if you play and go 1-9, (which I don't think will happen) you will be glad that you played.
  10. No way man, reading this thread helps me keep up with the gossip. Also, I have learned way to much football just reading all the comments from all the football gurus on here. Anyhow, if it is shut down, another fifty or sixty pages of chatter will surely take its place.
  11. Hey, I grew up in vonore and played ball there. What about this Vonore Gang and can I join? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. Coach Satterfield, I hope you are listening to this, but I'm sure you don't look at message boards. Why would you want to go to Sequoyah? As a matter of fact, why would any coach want this job? Just look at what you have to deal with, and this is only a message board. I'm sure it's much worse in person. I am a Vonore boy and I have had cousins and church members play and are still playing at Sequoyah. (And yes I have been supportive.) My kids are still several years away from high school, but if nothing changes I will assure you they will not be at Sequoyah. If I had and 8th grade boy going to Sequoyah next year, I would seriously consider other high schools. So far, the greatest debacle in Monroe County school board history is Sequoyah est 1995 (until proven otherwise). I can't believe my taxes are going to support this crap. Again Coach Satterfield, please don't take this job if you are offered. I hate to see someone I know get into this mess.
  13. I didn't think that Coach Satterfield was going to interview, but I guess that he did. (If I am correct I played with vonoretb12, and he is probably telling the truth). Bill Satterfield has interviewed and been offered the job before, but things did not work out. I believe he was at Grace Christian or Grace Academy recently. I think he turned their program around and got them into the playoffs. However, he may have had issues with the head master and stopped being the coach (not sure, but that is what I heard.) My brother played for him, so I had the privledge of watching many Greenback games. Satterfield will hug you off the field and chew your tail out on the field. I think as far as dicipline he will be a lot like Summey. So, I guess he would be one year and done. How ironic, if Satterfield gets the job. Coach Summey replaced him at Vonore and he replaces Summey at Sequoyah.
  14. I wasn't talking necessarily about the on the field product. I was talking about the revolving coaching door and all the drama that surrounds your program. Everyone in vonore and madisonville should be embarrased, because due to the media everyone in East TN IS LAUGHING. And that, my friend, makes you the laughing stock. I hope that Sequoyah can find those players a fine coach. The administration and powers that be have failed time and time again. Sometime there failure has been not trying to keep the good coaches. Maybe we should let some of the players decide, since the adults have messed it up.
  15. Thanks to a few parents and coaches Sequoyah went from gaining respect to being the laughing stock again. Anyway, a coach with 30 years experience is probably too "old school" for most peoples taste. And I didn't think that was what folks at SQHS wanted. You know discipline, character, etc...
