  1. Hank, rooting for Memphis instead of a fellow District team just makes me laugh. Your really that anti-Riverdale that you would rather see the trophy leave the mid-state. Incredible.... My daughter played 4 years soccer for Riverdale and the Riverdale - Siegel rivalry in that sport is comparable to this one in basketball, but let me tell you, as much as we hated Siegel, when our season was over we rooted for Siegel to win it all. This past season we rooted for Oakland when they made it to state. If Riverdale had made their layups they would have easily repeated, I think they missed 20 tonite. looks like Memphis wins this year Riverdale only loses one senior starter so look out again next year
  2. Hey MVM, I'm gonna miss not driving down to SD this year as my daughter has graduated. Riverdale actually lost Becca two years sgo and still made it to state without her. They lost 5 senior starters this past year including both midfielders (Hannah and Kirstin), the goalie and two forwards. This years team is very young and they probably only field 5-7 players who would play varsity anywhere else, so this year is a rebuilding year and hopefully the youngsters will improve and things will be better next year. Soddy looks strong as usual. Siegel and Oakland are the top two teams out of 7AAA this year.
  3. No rivalry this year. Riverdale lost too much to graduation, Coach Mac moved away and new coach seems to be in over her head. I wish them well, but dont see them making it past district after 4 straight years of State or sub-state appearances.

Congrats again to both Riverdale and Siegel for making the State Tournament again. I know Houston expected to blow out Riverdale, so much that before the game the Houston Coach told the Riverdale Coach to give him a signal when he'd had enough and he would put in his reserves. That signal never happened, and Riverdale was a crossbar away from taking a 4-3 lead late in the game. To the Riverdale seniors, thanks for 4 great years of exciting soccer, which included 3 trips to State and Sectionals the other year. I wish you girls all the best with your future endevours
  5. This game is just meant to be. 4th year in a row Riverdale and Soddy meet in the substate game. MVM, see ya there.

If I have my facts right, that means Lawrence Co travels to Murfreesboro to the winner of the Siegel-Riverdale game tonight while Columbia hosts the loser of that game.

Nice article in the DNJ today about last nights games. Kirstin did have a nice goal and I am a proud father, but our four girls on defense, the Dunning sisters, Cassie and Hayley, Sarah Parker, and Kaylee Bennett were outstanding in slowing down a potent Oakland offense, only allowing a couple of shots that GK Abbey Adkins had to stop. Hannah, Ashley, Soria, Emily and Erica were all solid last night in a total team effort. Thursday against Siegel for District Tournament Championship and then on to Regionals and who knows what else. I also want to say congrats to the Oakland girls, many that we are friends with, on their season. Keep your heads up, the future looks very good for your team.

Riverdale 6 LaVergne 0 Rematch with Oakland tomorrow night...
  10. Siegel 0 Riverdale 0 Field was narrowed by 5 yards on each side due to mud and standing water. Not sure if this helped or hurt either team, but the field seemed more congested. I would say Siegel controlled the ball 65-70% of the time, but did not seem to get many scoring chances. Riverdale had fewer overall chances, but did have a couple of close shots. Riverdale also should have had a PK, that the ref chose not to call. I believe the final standings for 7AAA are as follows: Siegel 4-0-1 Oakland 3-1-1 Riverdale 3-1-1 Blackman 2-2-1 Smyrna 1-4-0 LaVergne 0-5-0 District tournament first round games should be; LaVergne vs Riverdale Smyrna vs Blackman
  11. Winner takes District. Siegel should be the favorite. Riverdale has all their injured back so it should be a good game probably played on a soggy muddy field. Hope the rain holds off and nobody gets injured with the playoffs coming up.

Blackman @ Riverdale 10/13 7:30pm, late start after football game. Senior night for 5 young ladies; Abby, Cassie, Hannah, Soria, and Kirstin. One, possibly two of our walking wounded should be back for this game. This is a big game as far as district seedings go. Riverdale @ Siegel 10/15 7:00pm
