Thanks for the information. Can you tell me what 2 olympic trials he competed in. I would like to look it up and see how he did. Too bad he won't coach at a high school.

I didn't know that there was an olympian in Nashville, and he was an all-american at UNLV. Whats his background? How come he isn't coaching in the high schools. Heck for the matter if he was an olympian and college all-american he should have been the next head wrestling coach at UTC. Heck I guess Blackman should have gone after the Rowland guy. Did Blackman go after this guy? Why has no one ever talked about him before. I am getting the felling you guys are doing the same thing as the Blackman crowd did. Pull a funny on coacht!

It appears that some of the Blackman people are making a mockery of the situation. To me, it is shameful to imply that Pat Smith will be the next head coach. What's next? Will Gonyea be coming back to take the job again! Get Real!

I must admit that I am very disappointed in what this thread has turned into. I posted on here to find out what was going on over at Blackman and to see why the old coach from Smyrna didn't get the job. I am an outsider and still learning what goes on around Tennessee. However, I have learned something by reading this thread. There are some passionate folks from Blackman who care about this team. I still haven't learned if the parents are ok with the soccer coach taking over the program. I have never seen a soccer coach who knew anything about wrestling. I guess this will be a first. Probably the biggest thing I have learned is that Coach Gonyea can't answer a dang question. He seems to like to play games on here. I don't know why. When I asked my original question, he could have answered the questions and stop all this foolishness. I am very disappointed. Good luck to Blackman next season.

Are you telling us that the old Smyrna coach was not offered the job. He is the only coach in the area with enough experience to lead the Blackman team. What is going on? Where are the Blackman parents in all of this? Are they not being listened too. Or are they sitting back and letting this happen to their kids. I am concerned for this program. It seems like the Middle Tennessee area is all alike. We see teams pop up for a short time till the coach leaves and the administration doesn't give a darn about the wrestling teams. Then the school team dies. Seems like a pattern in the Middle Tenn area. Whats your thoughts.

Sounds to me like the Blackman administration is serious about their wrestling! I guess the wrestling program doesn't mean that much to them. There are so many coaches out there who could do a great job. My guess is that they (Blackman administration) didn't seek a wrestling coach like they would a basketball or football coach. Just some thoughts. I, first thought that the old Smyrna coach would have gotten this job. Did he apply for the job?

I don't think Nebraska boy has learned a whole lot since he came to Tennessee. It is amazing to see that Tennessee sends 8 qualifiers (6 DII boys and 2 DI boys) while Nebraska only sends 3. What a testament to his great state. As a DI parent in Tennessee, I only wish my son could compete with the best of DII here in Memphis. Grinder, you did try your best to insult the MTSU program. Anyone with an ounce of since can figure out that club wrestling is not at the same level as the others (DI, DII, DIII and NAIA). However, you said "I do have issues with certain individuals..... ". And that sir is your big mistake. You did try your best to downplay what level the MTSU program is competing on, and some of the individual wrestlers on the team. Luke, congrats on a great career from all of us in Memphis.

I usually don't say much on here but I will tonight. I am shocked to see a high school coach on here talking down another league or division or even some kids on a team. Coach Grinder you may have earned your academic all-american certificates but what you didn't earn was class. Some real class that should be displayed by our coaches who are suppose to lead by example. I guess you forgot to go to that class in college. I am very disappointed

Don't forget that West Tennessee has had their fair share of success over the years. Going back to Raleigh Egypt, Bishop Byrne, Christian Brothers and even Germantown. I believe these teams have competed very well over the years with State Runner-Up finishes. Not bad for an area of the state that can't wrestle. We are working hard to get to the top. We will soon enough.

Texas, how do you define success.

You see the thread. Any ideas as to what it takes and how to train.

Marable is a stud. No question about it. It makes me mad as heck that DI kids can't perform on the college level like the boys in DII. I just want to know why this is. My son has worked his tail off to be good. Yet, he struggles to place in the big tournaments. Maybe we should start a thread that discusses the ways to train a kid to take the next step and be successful in college wrestling. Any ideas. I need to know.

I really don't understand what difference it makes as to what coaches vote in this poll. If you knew who voted would it make a difference. I would like to see more West Tennessee teams in this poll. I think there are some very good teams down here. I guess we just haven't caught the voters attention yet.

The sun in Florida must be getting to you CBG. I never knew that Ryan had a down year. Are you setting all of us up for something. Will Ryan be coming back down to Memphis this year for any dual meet tournaments. Stay out of the sun, CBG.
