  1. The HC kicking game may have left some points on the field but that works both ways. A bad snap on the opening drive cost Centennial 3-7 points and one of their top receivers uncharacteristically dropped a sure TD pass in the fourth. The good thing is none of that will matter Friday night.
  2. He's actually mellowed over the years since he posted as ND 66 and GoldenDomer. I haven't seen him call anyone a little gurl (his spelling) or offer to meet another poster somewhere for a throw down in a couple years.
  3. In their one loss, the QB made several poor passing decisions. He threw several picks when he had no business throwing the ball. Guys hanging onto his legs or in his face and he threw up some ducks instead of taking the sack. Sure that's been corrected but pressure caused them problems that night.
  4. My memory isn't the greatest but didn't Centennial have a back (not Dodson) go for 125 yards or so in the first game? I know there were some some big pass plays but think they also had some success on the ground.
  5. Weather for Friday looks perfect so no rain is anticipated during the game. Just not sure how much things will dry if the Wednesday forecast holds true.
  6. Don't count on them looking ahead. Rector is robotic in his focus on the task at hand and this week's task is HC. BTW, field conditions may be messy. Looks like up to 3 inches of rain on Wednesday into Wednesday night.
  7. TOP DEFINITION whelp interjection. A remark, generally thought of as southern slang, that is derived from the word "Well" and also used in its stead in order to lead one into another sentence that may continue a paused conversation/story or be used to signify the conclusion of one. Where as pronunciation of "Well" can be drawn out, "Whelp" is strictly pronounced very quickly and with a slight rising-inflection.
  8. And their only loss is to 5A Centennial, a school five miles away they fought being rezoned to like storming the beaches at Normandy.
  9. Centennial pretty much dominated after the first two series. They went 3/out on the first possession of the game and gave Bwood good field position around the 35. Bwood punched it inside the 10 but threw a pick in the end zone. After that, it was all Centennial. They pounded on the ground but also used the pass effectively. Controlled time of possession in a big way. Major difference from the first Bwood game was pass defense. Held them to 119 yards and had four picks. 18-0 at half, third quarter was uneventful and both teams scored in the fourth with Bwood's TD coming with under three minutes left.
  10. Under this screen name. He's been around for several years, previously posting under Notre Dame 66 and GoldenDomer. He said in another thread he made three tackles playing for ND so maybe he got his eggs scrambled on one of those hits and it affected the "be nice" portion of the brain.
  11. GCND has been posting here for years under various screen names (NotreDame66, GoldenDomer and probably some others) and has always been a little antagonistic. He's kinda like some Bama callers to the Finebaum show, just at the high school level . Take it with a grain of salt, don't let it spoil your enjoyment of the sport and your perspective comment is spot on.
  12. From today's Tennessean. GAME OF THE WEEK CLASS 5A HENDERSONVILLE (10-1) AT INDEPENDENCE (11-0) When: Friday, 7 p.m. Hendersonville, one of the Midstate’s top rushing teams, will be squaring off against Independence’s prolific passing attack in this Class 5A second-round matchup. The Region 6-5A runner-up Commandos, led by the backfield trio of Terrell Carter, Mike Harris and Jack Towe, are averaging close to 300 yards rushing. The Andrew Bunch-led Eagles have torched opposing defenses for close to 3,000 yards through the air. You can’t really label either as one-dimensional, though. Bunch, coming off a 135-yard, one-touchdown passing effort a week ago, also ran for a season-high 92 yards and three rushing scores in the 49-7 first-round win over Cane Ridge. Hendersonville quarterback Brett Coker threw for a season-high 108 yards and a touchdown in the 43-20 opening-round triumph over Shelbyville. Murph’s pick: Independence 42, Hendersonville 31 Brown’s pick: Independence 35, Hendersonville 14

The game can be heard live on AM-950, via live internet streaming onwakmworldwide.com, or on your iPhone via TuneIn Radio.
  14. Says the guy who obviously wasn't there. After losing the element of surprise because of the ref's screw up, they went back to the pooch kick to avoid SW's speed. Kick was fair caught at the 40.

  16. The fact you gave up almost 500 yards to a 1-9 team helps prove my point about a weak pass defense. You may very well beat Centennial if you play them again but this thread is about beating Indy and from what I've seen, Indy passing > HC pass D.
  17. Unless they shore up their pass D, they can't play with Indy. Centennial killed them throwing the ball and Indy's passing game is off the charts better than Centennial's.
  18. Indy is the real thing and will be tough to beat. For a little schedule clarification, Indy beat Centennial in game 2 and Centennial beat Rwood in game 4.
  19. Thanks. Centennial had been pooching kicks all night and sucked the deep man up. Crossed them up with a deep kick that was executed perfectly. Rules are rules but it seems unfair to in essence penalize them 30 yards because the ref gagged the call. They won and are moving on so it worked out in the end. Thanks again.
  20. OK you refs out there, what is the rule on an inadvertent whistle? On a kickoff in the Southwind/Centennial game, the ball went over the SW returner's head and died around the three yard line. He picked it up, started up field and just as the posse arrived about the nine yard line, the ref suddenly blew the whistle and signaled touch back. Guess he confused the five yard line with the goal line but if so, he should have called the touch back immediately. They initially spotted the ball at the nine but after a discount double check huddle, CHS was required to kick off again and SW ended up with the ball at the 40. I don't recall seeing an inadvertent whistle result in a "do over" but am certainly not a rule book expert. Clarification is appreciated.
  21. Here's a preview of the Indy-Cane Ridge and Centennial-Southwind games. Looks like CR has some talent and SW will be a big test. CLASS 5A Cane Ridge (8-2) at Independence (10-0) If there ever was a team capable and ready for an upset, it’s the Ravens. Cane Ridge lost only to the second and third teams in their region and beat the region champ, Hillsboro, 21-14 in the middle of the season. The Ravens are fast, athletic and well-coached. If there ever was a team ready to prevent an upset, it’s Independence. Veteran head coach Scott Blade, who has a golden ball to his credit, is well known for his wide open offense. But this is a different Eagles team. Yes, Andrew Bunch may be the best quarterback in 100 miles, but part of that goes to Nate Johnson, Adam Swayze (not a bad QB himself) and Seth Huner, a group that can shred a secondary. But the development of a solid offensive line and the hard running of Daniel Wright make this Eagle team different. Add to that an overlooked stingy defense, which allowed 17 points in opener – the most all year. Southwind (8-2) at Centennial (9-1) Centennial won the region, but may have gotten the toughest first round draw. The Jaguars finished in a three-way tie for second in Region 8-5A and own the only win over region champ Brighton. But under the tie-breakers, Southwind comes east. They are much like Centennial – a high-flying offense (they scored 40 or more points in six of their 10 games) and a stiff defense (they allowed more than 10 points in only four games). The Cougars enter the playoffs a true definition of team. In any given game any number of key players can make the big play. Texas A&M commit Tyrel Dodson is the obvious name, but he’s quick to share credit and time with Chase Carder (76 tackles, 17 for a loss, 5 sacks, 2 INT’s and 2 forced fumbles) at linebacker. Devious Christman is the leading receiver but also a lockdown DB. The team is only giving up 1.9 yards per rushing attempt. Offensively, Mondu Sawyers is a 1,000-yard running back for the year and Tristan Pisacane has been throwing the ball all over the field the last three weeks, sharing time with Blake Lovell who is returning from a shoulder injury.
  22. I think they should start with Vandy. On a neutral field, Vegas might have Maryville as a slight favorite.
  23. And with two of the three at home, big $ at the gate.
  24. Centennial played a pretty tough out of conference schedule and won two of the three. They beat 6A Franklin (7-3), gave 9-1 Ravenwood (6-A) their only loss and took it on the chin from undefeated Independence.
  25. That 4th qtr passing success included a couple of 50/50 jump balls that may not go HC's way next time.
