  1. Marion Co scores with 43 seconds remaining ... Boyd 21-20 ... Marion goes for 2 and does not make it. Boyd 21-20
  2. Boyd 21-14 with about 4 minutes left
  3. 14-14 tie with about 7:30 remaining in the game
  4. 4 FG's is probably a pretty good prediction for Boyd!! I heard he kicked a 60 yard FG in practice the other day. I realize practice isn't the same as a game (no rush), but he also made a 52 yarder in the Tyner game last week. I HOPE our defense can hold then to 10, but that will be tough.
  5. We've been using 2 QB's since our starter tore his ACL in week 1: #17 is a Sr - his normal positions are DE and TE #22 is a So - he is normally a tail back
  6. I don't claim to be an expert on the team, but I'll give my opinion: It sounds like our defense is similar - we are weaker against the pass and defend the run pretty well. When we are playing a team with a good passing QB, we usually get exposed. Our offense relies mostly on the run since our QB went down in the 1st game. I think we're going more with a soph QB, #22, now - but #17 (a senior) still QB's as well. #17's primary positions are DE and TE, but he has done well filling in at QB even though it's not close to his primary positions. We have a solid offensive line. We have several good runners -- #25 (Jr) being the primary one. #34 is a tuff running Jr as well. On defense, we are led by #30 at LB, but he has been playing hurt for the last several games. Also strong on defense is #34 (LB), #78 (DT), #17 (DE). And we have a good kicker - #24.
  7. I was actually encouraged by the Red Bank game. If they are the best high school football team in the Chattanooga area, we are a lot better off than I thought we were (relative to all the others). The 23-0 score didn't indicate how closely the game was played. I was particularly impressed with our line on both sides of the ball. But #3 for RB was the difference in the game. Just my opinion, but I think we should scrap the spread punt formation. With only 3-4 blockers and a 2nd string punter (who has actually performed very well), a blocked punt was bound to happen eventually. It would be easy to make a similar statement that was made earlier about Bledsoe -- If Boyd plays like they did against Red Bank, they will win out -- but it obviously also depends on the level of play brought to the field by South Pitt, Loudon & Tyner. But after what I saw in the RB game, I believe it COULD happen. Boyd should win against Bledsoe by 20-30 points (very similar to the Grace game).
  8. Grace was an away game this year. It was only moved to Boyd at the last minute because of the weather.
  9. You are correct - "lack of class" was a poor choice of words on my part and I apologize. I think I over reacted to some of the overly negative posts directed at the Grace coaches, which I don't like to hear. Coach Reynolds IS a classy person and I've been impressed every time I'm around him. I just respectfully disagree with his substitution practices late in the game when we've won the game handily. I should have thought about my post before I hit the button -- lesson learned. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />
  10. OK, since you are waiting for me to correct, I guess I will. I'm pretty sure we started #14 (soph) and #88 (jr) at the tight end positions -- the freshman did play some. Ben Beasley is a soph, but we did finally get the freshman (#8) in the game on the last possession. We got more subs in this game than against Marion, but our head coach showed an extreme lack of class by putting our starting cornerback #7 back into the game with 3 minutes to go to try to insure the shutout after the substitute CB had just gotten beat the prior play. The Grace QB instead threw a TD to the inside receiver. I was glad to see them score. Grace has some tough kids and have nothing to be down about. #1 and #2 are great players. Our starting inside linebackers (#30 and #88) never came out of the game. And what is with the pooch kicks? Our kicker kicked the 1st two kickoffs in the end zone - then we decide to pooch kick the rest of the night. I simply don't get it -- we've got a great kicker and we make him pop the ball up -- it costs us the game against Meigs by giving them the ball on the 50 instead of the 20 late in the game.
  11. I have to correct you on this one, we most definitely did not play the JV the entire 4th quarter and most of the 3rd. With 6 minutes to go in the game, we still had 9 of 11 starters in on defense. On offense, we changed a few backs, the tight ends and receivers, but our starting guard went down with a knee injury at 6:36 in the 4th quarter. Let's not exaggerate the facts. We should have had the starters out a lot earlier.
  12. The scrimmage game with Silverdale tonight has been canceled -- I'm not sure why.
  13. To answer a question from earlier - according to the Boyd Buchanan website, the Boyd-Silverdale scrimmage is on August 10th @ Boyd.
  14. I heard that the schedule had changed, but this is the 1st time I've actually seen it. I'm very encouraged by the changes!! I'm not making any predictions on how many victories - I'm just pleased that we will be playing teams that are more our level. It's very discouraging playing teams like Fulton, Baylor, Cookeville & Red Bank (still on) when you're only an average AA team. Hopefully, this schedule is a 2 year commitment. The only receiver we need to be worried about replacing is Justin Headon since he is basically the only receiver we ever threw the ball to.
  15. I think the reason Michael Blosser was such a good wrestler in high school is because his big brother cut him absolutely no slack when he was growing up as a kid. I can still remember playing "smear the man with the ball" in my front yard when we were little and "Micro" would hang right there with us even though we were 4-5 years older. I remember David calling him "Biiiiiiig Ears" and "Hooooowdy Doody" -- it was pretty funny. I haven't seen either of you in over 20 years. Reading your letter Michael really brought back memories. I'm glad to hear you're still doing well in sports. David -- you got that football team filled out yet? Any potential Cowboys?
