  1. How is this tournament affected by the dead period? Are coaches allowed to sit in the corner and coach their own kids, or does that go against what the dead period is all about?
  2. I'll second that. He is proof that winning isn't everything. It's a huge honor and accomplishment to wrestle in the state finals. He had a bigger smile on his face than the guy who beat him. That's love for the sport.
  3. I understand that UTC is tryin to make money off their concessions, but it's kinda dumb to not allow competeing wrestlers to bring in their own food. They did that for years, letting them get their cooler in through the lower gate. Some of them probably dont want to spend their money on greasy concession stand food or walk down the street to get a subway. I mean, is it too much to ask to let them bring their own pasta or power bars? It seems kinda petty to me.
  4. It was sarcasm. I know who Mang is. But Lett is the last person you want to underestimate. The guy is the real deal. He was sick or something at regions and got upset in the first round. I fully expected him to take first and was shocked. But I do agree he'll have to wrestle the match of his life unless he wants to settle for the consolation bracket.
  5. What's the matter coach? You don't wanna crack at Mang right off the bat? /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  6. Why is Jake Young not seeded 1st? Did he not win his region? The defending state champion should be the number one seed if he is at the same weight class that he won last year, correct?
  7. Thus use to be a great tournament for the younger kids that didnt quite make the cut for Chattanooga. It was also a huge confidence booster and helped the kids that wrestled varsity all year to see that the sport can be alot different if you're a 9th grader wrestling seniors all year, then wrestling other 9th graders. It's a shame this thing can't be held.
  8. It's those dang blue & black singlets. Both schools look the same.
  9. I know a few, but they're just from memory, so it's all random. 103- Soboun took 1st, Lowe of MLK beat Ramirez of McGavock for 3rd huge gap. Didnt pay much attention. 135 1st place Steiner over Oscitille, 3rd, Lett over Jones MLK. All 4 go to state. 140 1st place Garrett EL over Hunters Lane, 3rd place Colbert McGavock 145 1st place Sewar of Antioch. cant remember who he beat. Mintlow took 3rd. Kyle Chandler got hurt and withdrew from the tournament. Ankle or leg injury. He left for the hospitle, but I saww him during the finals on crutches and a nifty little wristband from the ER. 152 No clue on the final. I thnk East Lit was in it. Burnley MLK beat Tresner ANT for 3rd 160 1st place Gambil EL over Garcia McGavock 171 1st Gentuso DCA over East Lit. I think HF took 3rd. There were only 4 in the entire bracket. 189 East Lit over Smith Hunters Lane 215 1st Pegram Glencliff over East, 3rd was Rhodes Ant. 4th Hume Fogg?? 285 1st Hunters Lane this is all from memory, but I'm pretty sure what I put is accurate. Anybody feel free to fill in the gaps.
  10. How will they seed 189 at state? Wolfe beat Croy last year for 3rd, so going by that Wolfe would be the number 1 seed at state. But with Croy being 2-0 against him this year, does that put him at 1? Or does State get seeded by last years result regardless?
  11. YahYa will not be medically cleared to wrestle this year. Too many health issues.
  12. Not sure on the score, but Lipscomb upset MLK by one point to advance. East Lit beat FRA. Then East shut out Lipscomb 68-0. They have a very good shot at bringing home a state dual championship next weekend.
  13. Where is this region dual gonna be at Sat. ???
  14. Most of the middle schools no-showed. The only ones I'm aware of that were there were Two Rivers, Mt. Juliet, Hendersonville, and whatever middle school it is that the Simpsons coach. Those kids were wrestling like varsity wrestlers.
  15. At my school, the head coach could not be any more passionate about the sport. But it seems these days that kids would rather just get a job or hang out than to commit themselves to a sport that won't get them much recognition unless they are one of the best.
  16. It's hard to get decent athletes/numbers out for wrestling in a Metro Nashville school when the football coach tells his linemen they're better off playing basketball.
  17. If the wrestler reverses the other guy and turns him to his back in the process, then the match continues. Even though it is 16-0, he has put him in a pin fall predicament and could possibly get the pin, which is 6 team points instead of 5. If the kid gets out of the pin and back to his belly, then the match is stopped. But they still allow the winning wrestler a chance to score a pin. Make sense? It's the same as sudden death overtime. If wrestler A takes down B to his back, then yeah he wins. But they still continue the match if he has him in a possible pin so that he may score 6 team points instead of 3. Should be the same for a tournament because pins are worth more. Don't mean to be so thourough in my explanation. It sounds like I'm trying to explain wrestling to people who've never seen the sport. lol! I'm just trying to be clear. And no, I'm not a red. So this is all my opinion. But I've talked to refs before about this so it's not like I'm just pullin this out of my back side.
  18. McGavock only HOSTS the tournament, we do not run it. Coaches keep calling about the tournament and all we can do is refer them to the officials. They are the ones in charge.
  19. Yeah the match should have ended when the clock runner sounded the buzzer. It shouldn't have cause a tech or pinfall could be the difference in the dual scores, but a wrestler shouldnt be placed back in a disadvantageous position. The same as if you have a guy on his back and there is blood. They stop it right there to clean every body up and restart the match from the referees position. You dont say ok you were on your back, his arm was here, move over a little bit....
  20. Everett Colbert of McGavock beat Chandler at the Hillwood tournament 9-3. He's also beat the Hunters Lane kid and Sewar of Antioch, if that's who they have at 140.
  21. I read somewhere that Franklins HW got into the finals with an upset over Father Ryans HW and pinned him.
  22. Anybody care to share some details on the whole Mater Dei being jobbed subject?
  23. This thread is turning into a MySpace argument. Pretty much all of the refs in Metro are fair and honest. For Nashville schools and out of towners. Every ref is gonna make a mistake, but I've never seen one in this area cheat a kid out of a match. There will always be someone who has a bone to pick with a ref over every single judgement call they see, that's a way of life in this sport. But I've never seen any home cookin officiating in this town. I'd like to see all these bleacher refs take the test and put the stripes on themselves. I guarentee that they would blow 100 times more calls than the real guys do. Which is very few in itself.
  24. That match was last year, Colberts 9th grade year, and was only his 3rd or 4th wrestling match ever. He has improved leaps and bounds since then. Don't expect Garrett to be handed the Region title.
