  4. Last year it was at Ravenwood This year it is now at Arlington High School Next year it will probably be in Chattown The year after that, should be in Knoxville
  5. I am pretty sure I have heard that the Best of the Best Duals have been moved back to Memphis for this year. Independence will not be hosting (not our choice) and I believe Arlington High School will be hosting the tournament now.
  6. CoachMeBrown, sorry man I just completely forgot you guys. I lost my list of teams after the meeting and if you look now I have you guys listed. No worries honest mistake. oh by the way, asiatic2412, who are you? Do I even know you? are you trying to start something? I have never told someone they could come to our tournament and then said, no. i don't know where you are getting your information from but it is not a reliable source.
  7. FYI, Coach Blair is also pushing very hard for Double elimination as well. there will be a meeting in the coming weeks to discuss a double elimination format and If I had to guess it will happen. Nobody thought both tournament would move to Williamson county and it happen. I am pretty confident that this change will take place as well.

  9. A few Clarksville kids are already contacted us about participating with Middle Tennesse and we would love to have more! Any in the middle Tennessee area is welcome to come out. I am hoping to have a large group of kids that week so that we can depth at weight classes. Since we are planning on wrestling freestyle and greco this year we could possible have two teams, one for greco and one for freestyle.
  10. The Best of the Best will be at Independence. It will be hosting in Middle Tennessee this year and hopefully we will have a good showing of wrestlers from all corners of the state that will grow the interest and allow us to start a rotation again. On a side note the middle tennessee team is shaping up very nicely! So far I have heard from over 15 different kids expressing interest in the team! Hopefully we can fill all four team, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanoooga, and Middle to make this even something special! If all four team bring strong lineups this event could be huge for Tennessee freestyle and greco! P.S. No you can not have Seneca, Calloway or Kennedy, I already called dibs a long time ago......
  11. This tournament is happening again this summer on June 6th @ Independence. Coach Peck and Coach Grindstaff will be organizing the Middle Tennessee team again this year and we are hoping to put together our best Middle Tennessee wrestlers to compete in Freestyle and Greco. This year we will be wrestling against Team Chattanooga, Team Memphis and hopefully Team Knoxville. Any wrestler interested in competing on either the Freestyle or Greco Mid-Tenn team, please contact me at jaredg@wcs.edu. If you are worried that you don't know enough about the two styles, don't worry we will be practicing M-F of that week at either Indy or Ravenwood to get ready for the tournament with full details coming soon. Whether you believe it or not, Freestyle and Greco will help your folkstyle wrestling more than you realize. This is a great event that we have going and take advantage of it being in Middle Tennessee this year because more than likely it will move to either Chattown or Memphis in the near future. And just think if middle Tennessee wins will have a little bit of bragging rights! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. I am just there to open the gym for the club. Stephen Westbeld and Coach Medina run the practices. i help out with the little kids everyone now and again but that is not against the rules..... as far as I know.
  13. Stephen Westbeld, NAIA all-american Stephen Medina, 3x Neveda state placer Coach Grindstaff there are a few other that come every now and again but the three above are the main ones.
  14. Practice times are now on Monday's and Wednesday, Basketball has forced us to Wednesday's instead of Thursday. Still from 6-7:30 @ Independence High School
  15. Right now open mats from 3-4:30 on Mondays and Wednesday. club team practices on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:45, need a USA wrestling card for this. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at jaredg@wcs.edu or regulatorswrestling@gmail.com
  16. A huge congrats goes out to Joe Blair. He is the master mind that got this accomplished with very little help from the other three (Franklin, Indy, Ravenwood, that I know of....). Coach Blair put in a lot of hard work and spent a majority of his free time to get this nailed down in a short time period. I can't say thank you enough to Joe Blair and I know we are looking forward to hosting the tournament with Brentwood, Franklin and Ravenwood. It is going to be tough to keep the tournament up to the same standards that the Clarksville community has got it to, but we are definitely up to the challenge. P.S. I heard from a little birdie that here in the very near future both tournaments will be at the Ag Center!!!!
  17. Either way I never intended to insulted MTSU or any other NWCA team, for that if I did I am sorry. The majority of the school at the NWCA national tournament are club teams, and that is not a lie and there is nothing wrong with that. There are some very talented teams at the NWCA tournament that make it a very competitive tournament and that I can??™t argue with nor would I. Stating that I don??™t feel the division is as deep as the others, what is wrong with me say that? Calling it a club sport, what is wrong with that? If you were to ask the Athletic Department @ MTSU, UCF, Kansas State, etc, would they tell you it is a club sport? As far as the Nebraska-Tennessee thing, I 100% feel Tennessee is a good wrestling state, and Nebraska is a good wrestling state as well. Although Nebraska does not have as many kids at D1 as national qualifiers, check the D2 national championships. A lot of quality kids in Nebraska go to either University of Nebraska Omaha, Nebraska Kearney and Chadron State, all three very good D2 schools located in Nebraska. In fact the D2 National champions, UNO has a primarily Nebraska roster, full of D2 All-Americans. I put that comment in there because of the bashing I had received from PrtIII. Whether anyone feels that was deserved or not, is irrelevant. I suggest you check out http://www.flowrestling.org/comments/view/coverage/234789 and read what they are writing on there about the NWCA tournament. They are saying much worse things than I did on this board. Please get on there and throw around these same personally attacks so other wrestling fans can receive the same treatment. Some of you want to talk about class and disrespect and things of that nature, well most of you have no idea where I came from or the experiences I have from being involved with college wrestling for 6 years and giving my whole life to wrestling since I was 5! Before you pass so much judgment on me why don??™t you do a little homework yourself
  18. Take it as you want, but it is just an opinion. If it make you feel any better I don't think the NAIA is as tough as D1 nor do I think it is as tough as D2, close to D2 but not quite there. I has some very quality individuals that could make noise in those leagues but as far as depth goes, it doesn't have the same. Now I do feel that it is very competitive with D2 but by far D1 is head and shoulders above the rest. I appreciate all the kinds words on this site for my opinions that I expressed. Class, yeah I guess I have not according to a couple of you and apparently I am quite jealous of others success. Say what you want, trash me, hate, i guess you have that right. Coach or not, I don't feel I stated anything that was out of line. Sorry to those that were offended by this, it was not to down play the league or any of its wreslters.
  19. I will say congrats to Luke on a great tournament and we look forward to seeing you in the future here in tennessee. you are a great wrestlers that desires plenty of praise. Wrestling with you, coaching with you, whatever it may be, we will leave it at that. Good luck with everything in the future
  20. Wow thanks man, i never trashed Luke nor have I ever brought his name up on this site. His wrestling credidentals are better than mine, but don't have the facts straight about Luke working with Independence last year. But hey thanks for the personal attacks as I was only stating opinions on the NCWA which i guess nobody around here passes judgement on other leagues ( the D1 vs D2 talk, about which is tougher). And by the way Luke is way more successful than me, true I never placed at my state tournament in NEBRASKA, but I will just take my two academic all-american plaques from College wrestling and throw them away, apparently they mean nothing. This never had to turn into a personal matter, it was all just opinion, again apparently we can't handle opinions on this site.
  21. I don't have an issue with the NCWA, I just know that it is still a club sport isn't it?and there is nothing wrong with that. I just feel even though they may have more teams than say the NAIA, I don't think it is as tough. I have wrestled club team kids, some I have beat, some I have lost to but either way I don't feel it is as tough a division as D1,D2,D3, or NAIA. Call me biased, call me a jerk (wouldn't be the first time), call me whatever, but hey maybe things have changed over the past couple of years and made the division has gotten tougher. Any wrestling that takes place is good for the sport and I am by no means trying to drag anything down, just calling it what it is, a club sport and also stating an opinion that overall it is not as tough as the other divisions. Sorry to offend and by the way, I do have issues with certain individuals.....
  22. You guys can church it up all you want but it is still club wrestling. Granted there are a couple wrestlers that could make some noise in some of the NCAA divisions and it might have gotten better over the years but the depth is still not there like you have in D1, D2, D3 or NAIA. Hamm, keep calling it what it is.
  23. Regulators Wrestling Club: Hosted by Independence High School 1776 Declaration Way Thompsons Station, TN 37179 About the club: We will primarily be focusing on Freestyle and Greco for the months of March -July. We will be practicing twice a week with the possibility of more days based on numbers and interest level. Tournaments will scheduled on the weekends and will be made available to kids of all ages with some traveling to tournaments in Memphis and Chattanooga. If your wrestler is unsure of Freestyle or Greco wrestling, it can be picked up very quickly! Really the only difference between these two styles of wrestling and the style you are accustom to in your school leagues are the rules. Who can join the club: Anyone with a USA wrestling card. Experience level and wrestling abilities will not matter; absolutely anyone can join the club.... all ages! Fees: The only fees as of right now for this season will be that each wrestler will need a USA wrestling card that can be purchased online at http://www.themat.com/membership.php . Tournament expenses will be the responsibility of each wrestler if they choose to attend. We are planning on expanding the club into next season and future seasons by including a full schedule of practices and tournaments from October through the end of summer, including both AAU wrestling tournaments( December-March) then USA wrestling tournaments (Freestyle and Greco, April - July). Equipment needed: You will need only wrestling shoes and a singlet (the singlet if you plan to compete in the tournaments). As the club grows we will be purchasing team singlets but for the time being each wrestler will need their own singlet. Tournaments: Most of the freestyle and Greco tournament are in April and May with national level tournaments taking place in the months of June and July. Practice Times: As of right now we will be practicing @ Independence High School on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00 starting March 16th in the gymnasium. Please park in the front of the school closest to the gym to enter for practices. Times and days may change towards the end of April due to scheduling issues with other sports @ IHS. Any questions please contact: Stephen Westbeld (swestbeld@gmail.com) Jared Grindstaff (jaredg@wcs.edu)
  24. yeah but that doesn't mean kids can't practice with a club as long as it is not school affliated. Wrestling can do what they want during the dead period as long as it doesn't involve their coach.
  25. I have sat back this entire week and just took all this in. I want to personally say to everyone that certain individual are not drawing an accurate picture of my team. We are not pointing fingers at anyone except ourselves, we didn't place and we were ultimately in control of that! My kids were heart broken after our lose to Bradley. I had all 14 kids believing that we were going to beat Bradley and it didn't happen. That was huge getting all 14 kids believing we could win and I knew going in that if we lost it would be a disaster. It was either get them mentally ready and believing they could beat Bradley or tell well guys we have a shot but..... I choose to tell them we were going to do and that it could be done. We have 6 senior starters on this team and we all knew this was our best shot at a state title with such a talented group! Although we plan to compete for a state title every year we knew this was a great opportunity this season. My kids were not ready to handle a loss to Bradley, we put everything, emotionally and physically into that match and when we lost the match it was next to impossible to bring it back to get third. Although we tried our best it wasn't simply good enough. It happens, we will bounce back and our team will be stronger in the future because of this particular trip to clarksville. As a team we have learned numerous lessons that will impact us for the rest of our lives. There are no what ifs in this situation, we didn't place so we have to move on. Some of our fans/wrestlers or whomever has been writing these posts need to remove themselves from this situaiton and get past it. I take full responsibility for not placing as a team so if any indy supporters want to trash someone or something, direct it this way! All of the teams mentioned in these posts are quality team and so is Independence, let just leave it at that. There is always next year, and the year after and the year after that!
