  1. Nice post, but I'm not sure it's worth your time or mine to be on here. DB has not lost to South in my son's lifetime but yet South fans still like to talk and say things like DB is scared, this is South's year, and all those things. Fact of the matter is, South is not in DB's league and may not be for a loooong time!
  2. Not so fast my friend! Be careful what you ask for... /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  3. I really do not know why this thread was even started or replied to. This is not even a debate. Derek Trent from Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett is the best catcher in the state, hands down. He is a 2-time Louisville Slugger 1st team All-American. No one else in the state can say that, and I'm not sure any catcher in the state has even been on an All-American team 1 time. If so, please correct me, but I know for a fact no one can say they are 2-time FIRST TEAM All-American. Hands down, discussion over. Not only is he the best catcher in the state, but one of the best in the country. It's a proven fact.
  4. While many, or most, disagree with you on Morgan, I am on your side. However, not for all the same reasons. I do not believe he is a horrible coach, but I do disagree with many of his decisions during the course of the game. I said all along during the regional tournament that if DB wanted to beat Science Hill and win substate they would have to play more than 6 players. Well, I basically got called an idiot and it was pointed out that DB beat Science Hill in JC with only 6 players. OK, that was then, this is now. I said they couldn't do it again, and they got run out of the gym. They looked tired and worn out, which can be expected after 6 players see all of the minutes. The foul situation in the Powell game should not have mattered because Morgan should have gone to his bench during the course of the game when players were in foul trouble. However, he refused to play more than 6 people (actually it was 9, but two of them only saw about 2 minutes after others fouled out, and the other was inserted with 7 seconds left for the final shot which he never took). If Morgan is such a good coach he should be able to take the athletes and capable players that he has on his bench and insert them into the game with the goal of taking care of the ball and stealing minutes. Good coaches can do that. It has been said time and time again that DB's 2nd five could beat many of the teams on our conference. While this is true, where were they during the postseason?
  5. You give me stats that show how many times Powell has shot 80% while taking at least 10 3s and then we can talk. Any team can shoot 80% making 4 out of 5 a few times a year. If Powell could shoot 22 3s like last night and still shoot 80% I wouldn't be posting on here but your claim is ridiculous. For the Oakland people, basically just put a hand in their face and they cannot shoot.
  6. The most ridiculous statement I have ever read. No team in the history of basketball has ever been able to say that they can hit 80% of their 3's. I will grant you that on a good night, anybody can shoot that well if everything comes together, but to use that statement to describe your team or any other team is ludacris.
  7. Brock, To answer your question, they were TSSAA officials from the KNOXVILLE area. That says it all. For every single DB player and fan to be talking about it after the game, as well as a coach who NEVER quotes on the officials, that should tell you something. Let me put it this way, they were so bad that at one point during the beginning of the 4th quarter during a timeout, an official from Powell high school brought the refs over explaining to them different ways to get out of the gym. Later on in the quarter, a Knoxville police officer did the exact same thing. If all of this still doesn't convince you of it, the fact that the Powell fans are getting on here admitting there were several questionable calls should tell you all there is to know. I just hate it for these seniors that had to end their career knowing they lost to a team they were better than. However, you will not win many games playing 5 on 8, especially when 3 of those 8 are in black and white stripes.
  8. We still got 1 more game. Unlike you all...
  9. And I really don't understand why you felt the need to post the same thing 3 times. Maybe you are just getting a little bored over in Bristol now that basketball season is OVER! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  10. Please note all the people on this thread in support of Justin Sylvester, and the ONE (1) person supporting Young. That is not a shot against Young, but you, my friend, are either Young's girlfriend, parent, or just are a homer who is clueless. But since you want to do this, who is still playing? Who averaged more points? Who averaged more steals? To save you the trouble, Sylvester is the answer to all of those questions. If you want to go look it up, then be my guest, but I already have so use your time as you may. So, when you stop doing Cory Young's laundry and recognize greater talent when you see it then you can talk to me, until then, all your posts will be ignored from here on out. Baseball season in Bristol! Good luck tonight against the Hill to Sylvester and the Indians!
  11. Next year this, next year that. I am not going there because Sylvester still has some work to do THIS season, unlike Young and the Vikings!
  12. First of all, you seem to be forgetting that Sylvester hit 3 free throws with 0.2 seconds on the clock to get his team into overtime. That's clutch. They just couldn't get the job done when it was all said and done. Sylvester is the better player, by far. Again, Young could not hold Sylvester's jock. And neither are the best sophomore in TN, so this whole discussion is pointless, since that's what this thread is about. Sylvester had 19 points to lead the DB team in scoring that is now headed to the Regional Championship and Substate. That is something Young's Vikings cannot say. Oh, and by the way, Sylvester also guarded Wiggins in the 2nd half last night and held his own for someone that is giving up about 9 inches. Say what you want about young, I would expect that from someone that attends TN High, but if you ask 10 disinterested people that are unpartial and they watch each of these players work out and play 5 games, 9 of them will tell you that Sylvester is the better player. The only one that wouldn't would be a brother of one of those TN High refs!
  13. If DB plays like they did against Greeneville they will win it. Science Hill can play a good game, but if DB is playing as a team and getting contributions from everyone, GAME OVER. Sensabaugh had 1 point, ONE POINT, last night and DB still got the job done against Greeneville because of the rest of the team. That's basically what it comes down to, and DB has more weapons as a team. However, it's tough to beat a team 3 times in one year. Especially after the 1st two were blowouts!
  14. Which is a whole other issue in and of itself. DB has more players on that team that could have contributed SOMETHING to the game last night. If nothing else, they have a couple more players that could have simply been inserted into the game to rest the starters. heck, all you have to do is take care of the ball and not turn it over. You don't have to worry about defense unless you are guarding Wiggins because nobody else is going to score. But, I guess the strategy paid off, this time. Now, beat Science Hill. I guarantee that DB will need more than 6 people getting minutes in that one...
  15. They got beat by the better TEAM. It's that simple. People have been saying all year long that it was a 1 man show down there and they played no good competition, which proved to be true for the most part. They lost in the Arby's which is expected and acceptable, but when they went against the top 2 teams from the Big 9 they came away 0-2. Everyone has been saying all year long that the Big 9 is far and above the level of the IMAC, but people still thought there was room for discussion. When DB's best player scores 1 point and they still get a win against Greeneville, that tells you something. Greeneville had a great season, though, and Wiggins was incredible. The man I watched on the court last night definately has a future in basketball. Good game and best of luck to all the Greeneville players. Come on out and root for us against Science Hill in the championship if you do not have any Thursday night plans! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  16. Dobyns-Bennett has a college-sized, 94 foot basketball court, I believe. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I know for a fact it is much larger than most of the other courts in this area. Part of the reason DB is able to wear out opponents at home with the pressing style game because that extra 10 feet each time down eventually takes its toll.
  17. I have to agree with Waco on this one. No player in Tennessee is better than a good gameplan. If Morgan knows what he is doing, he will be able to come up with a gameplan to at least slow down Wiggins.
  18. Here is my take on the game. Granted, I have only seen Greeneville play in the Arby's, so I do not have much to go on by saying this. I believe that if Wiggins gets under 30, DB wins. I say that because I do not see any other major scoring threats on that team. OK, Gash scored 26 the other night against Volunteer. DB's JV Point Guard could score on Volunteer. Their defense is lacking, to say the least, that is until they start putting people on the ground. With that said, I think the combination of Coty Sensabaugh and Justin Sylvester will be enough to at least take Wiggins out of his comfort zone and force him into some tough shots. He is a big time talent, but if he is going to get his points and carry them to a victory, he will know he has been in a game. I just think that if you somewhat contain him the best you can, this DB team can beat Greeneville because of all the other threats we have on the floor. We have the best backcourt in the area, by far, top to bottom. Then, when you look at our posts, we have a 6'6" sophomore who has been a force down low all season, as well as Logan Williamson who scored 26 the other night against Morristown East. Basically, I believe DB has a great chance to win this game and I am glad they are going in as underdogs.
  19. Not even the best in his own conference. Not saying Justin Sylvester is, but he has manhandled him all season long when he was matched up against him. Outscored him and outdefended him. Not even close.
  20. We won't be the ones making excuses after the game is over. And just for the record, after DB wins Wednesday night, I will still be on here talking about the referees if they called a bad game. In this area, they are ridiculously bad, especially at TN High.
  21. I wasn't aware you had to take a number and stand in line in order to post on CoachT. Good thing you don't because judging by some of the posts I have seen on here from you Volunteer fans, they certainly don't teach English over there, so if I was a betting man I would "assume" they don't teach too much math either! Like I said, SHUT UP! You guys lost for the THIRD time this year. Just face it, you will ALWAYS be the small, Hawkins County, redneck school, that can't beat DB!
  22. First of all, I wasn't making excuses, because DB will win this game regardless. Simply stating a fact on here that everyone in Tri-Cities seems to recognize except the TN High fans. In fact, I bet you (Cap1) are probably on a first-name basis with the 2 or 3 refs I am referring to! Just for the record though, I am not making excuses. I do not do that. I simply state facts. I have maintained my position that DB should have only 1 conference loss, that being the home loss to Central by 20 points. The South loss should have CLEARLY never happened because they are a HORRIBLE team, and the TN High loss should have never happened because we had a night where we put up 35 points and lost by 1 point. The Central loss was simply an ambush. It happened to be a night when Central was hitting everything they shot and DB did not play as a team. However, different story, different "season". Coty is back, and this is a new team. Be ready Bristol because the Champs-to-be are coming to town!!
  23. The game is over, you all got beat for the THIRD time this year, so shut up.
