  1. Sorry to inform you Big W, but the Grizzlies Wing T looked pretty stagnant at Union last night. It didn't help that they turned the ball over and over and over if you get my drift. Union scored on the initial kickoff and Grainger fumbled on their first play and then on the ensuing kickoff. It was Union 3 scores to 0 before Grainger ran their second offensive play. They were hit with the flu bug and this really hurt, but Union was just better than the Grizzlies. Grainger is down this season, but now they are playing without argueably their best 3 lineman the rest of the season. Hopefully the players with the flu will be back and better next week against Chucky Doak @ home. The Grizzlies really need a win at home! If they can play like they did last week they will have a shot. They have to take care of the ball better. Good luck Grizzlies, keep your heads up! I predict the Grizzlies will turn it around this week with a WIN!
  2. C'mon Kev....WG is on the verge of breaking away from their past. They have a great young coach, a new field house, great fan support and some really good athletes. I'd look for the Buffs to continue to grow as long as these stars continue to be aligned. I'm with Drew....WG by at LEAST 2 tds Barb, you bought into the hype too. Sorry to disappoint you, even though I know you are really a Devil fan. Just as I predicted...The Grizzlies WIN in a close one. I retract my term of "upset" though. One should never use that term when talking about defeating the buffaloes. The Grizzlies have a bunch of inexperienced guys starting and playing this year, but they are improving each and every game. Playing our two earlier games helped get us ready for the conference competition. The running backs from Carter were the best we have played against this year. Even though we did not come away with any Ws, it did make us better by playing better competition. Good luck Grizzlies next week and in two weeks when you get back to the conference schedule with C-D at home.
  3. Man, Bear Season didn't last very long! I hear from the Grizzlies that buffalo tastes pretty good after a WIN! All joking aside, the Grizzlies are on a down year. If this is supposed to be an up year for the Buffs, I would hate to see them in a down year. Oh, wait I have. I think scheduling two pushovers and getting two wins, excited the West Green fan base, which is usually good. I just think the Buffs have never had much success and the fans don't know how to handle it. They will probably still end up around 5-5 with four single A teams on the schedule. That is probably good enough for them to say it was a good year. I thought it was funny to hear all the predictions on how bad the Buffs were going whup up on the Grizzlies. To me, it looked like the Buffs got tired in the third and fourth quarter. The Grizzlies were able to keep them on their heels late in the game. We know WE are inexperienced, but one thing for sure our guys are used to putting it on the line everyday. They will play hard and get better as the season goes on. Most teams will know they have been in a battle after playing the Grizzlies, Win or Lose. Good luck Grizzlies!
  4. Grainger played much better this week, but the scoreboard does not show it. They lost 34-7 to Carter, but they did not turn the ball over like they did last week. Carter just had too much in the backfield with Troutman and Meady. Troutman is a beast and Meady has fantastic speed. Grainger had a couple of drives end inside the 20. If they had capitalized there it would have been much closer. Also, Carter scored a TD with 10 seconds to go instead of taking a knee in a 27-7 game. But, I guess every coach is not the Gentleman Coach I think they should be. Grainger improved a lot from the first game to the second. They still need to improve on Defense especially with their open field tackling. This is to be expected since they have so many players starting for the first time. If they can open up the offense more, they should continue to get better each week if they can stay healthy. I look for them to get into the win column a few times here in the next 3-4 weeks. Good luck Grizzlies, keep improving!
  5. The Grainger vs Gibbs game was ugly, embarrassing and upsetting...The game was poorly played by the Grizzlies in just about every facet. Way too many turnovers, offense was unbelievely predictable (looks like we just line up in a new formation to run the ball up the middle again), passing game was poor, defense gave up way too many big plays, and the kicking game is gonna be a sore spot all season...I could go on and on. This was not the Grainger team that we saw in their earlier scrimmages. Gibbs gets a lot of credit for outplaying Grainger all night. Heck, they even entered the field better than the Grizzlies. They executed their flex-bone (wing T style) offense extremely well. # 20 can scoot and is very elusive. They were without a doubt the better team. Yet it was pretty upsetting to see and Ex-Coach put 60 on the board against us. I think he was taking out a little frustration on the Grizzlies. I would have felt bad if we would have put 60 on the board against them, but I don't think Gibbs is feeling any remorse. I guess what comes around goes around and one day the 60 shall hang on the other side of the scoreboard! Grainger will bounce back. They have a lot of inexperienced players that will get better as the year goes on. One thing for sure they will keep working and improving. Good luck Guys, and keep your heads up.
  6. The Grainger and Scott County score was 14-6 Scott. I did not see any of the other scores. Does anyone know how the rest turned out?
  7. Looking forward to seeing the facilities and playing in the inaugural Blue Ridge Jamboree. I pick GHS to win the 2nd quarter
  8. Grainger scrimmaged Oneida on Friday. I believe it was 3-1 Oneida. That is a lot better than last years thrashing Oneida put on the Grizzlies. I think the Grizzlies will be solid this season when they get all the positions worked out. They are still developing the new offense and the coaches are trying to plug in some different people here and there especially on defense. They have been trying to play a lot of guys in the scrimmages to see who they can depend on. I'm sure they will narrow the list down some, but they have several players that are even at many of the positions. They don't look like they have decided on a QB yet. Both of them looked about the same. The RBs look very even and I don't remember many of them with much experience from last year. This truly is a team that nobody has heard about, but I think they can be about like last years squad. They will be competitive in most games. Lets hope they can win the close ones, because I have a feeling they will be in several close games this season. (They could win anywhere from three games to seven if they win the close ones:) GOOD LUCK GRIZZLIES!
  9. Grainger scrimmages Oneida Friday @ Grainger High School. Not sure on the time, probably around 6:00 like the GP scrimmage. Oneida waxed Grainger last year @ Oneida. I hope the Grizzlies can compete better with them this year. They still have a lot of positions up for grabs. Maybe this is a sign that they will have some depth at several positions this season. No one really stands out for them right now. They play hard and look like a team of Blue Collar Workers. Good luck Grizzlies.
  10. I read a couple of weeks ago that the first game begins around 4:30. They also said there was one ticket price, and I believe it was $7. I believe the second game is scheduled for 8:00 or so...This should be a great night of football. Also, I may be mistaken but I think it is it on a Saturday instead of Friday.
  11. GP had a couple of solid RBs and the QB threw the ball well. Their passing game did look ahead of Grainger's right now. Grainger looked pretty good running their new offense. They didn't have an athlete at QB like they usually do. They had only ran live for three days and there were some mixups. But most of those came from new guys the coaches were trying to see what they could do. I thought both teams looked well coached and they looked pretty even. I think GP came out on top in the end, but both first teams were well matched. It was a good scrimmage for both teams, IMO. No Pitsners or McBees to watch, but still enjoyable.
  12. Thought I'd try my hand at prognostication. 1. Greenville 2. South Greene 3. Grainger 4. Cumberland Gap 5. West Greene 6. Claiborne 7. Chuckey Doak There will be a lot of good games in the conference this season. Injuries and luck could change 2-7 IMO...Grainger has already lost their starting fullback to broken arm on the first day of pads.
  13. Yes, I believe it was Science Hill that she attended after Rutledge High School. She has come back a few times and spoken to some of our young athletes etc...She is an outstanding lady!
  14. Most people don't realize that Melissa (Skeeter) McCray attended the old "Rutledge High School" until her family moved around her Sophomore or Junior season. Phil Garner also was raised in Grainger County and attended RHS until about the same time before he moved to K'town. I hope Skylar does well at UT! He definitely will work hard and be an asset to the team as a pure shooter. That is something they really need. Lets hope he does better than he did in the Tomato Wars at the festival...LOL first man out.
  15. Does anyone know what time they scrimmage? This could be a good measuring stick for the Grizzlies. GP always has a physical and well coached team. This may show us who some of the new guys may be to look for at Grainger this season.
  16. Does anyone know what the Grizzlies will have this year? I haven't heard a lot about the team. I know they lost several players from last year. Who are some of the players returning and who are some new faces we can expect to see?
  17. IMO, this will be a much stronger district for football and basketball than baseball. There will only be two or three teams that stand out above the rest in baseball. The rest will be mediocre to say the least. Football and basketball could have 4-5 strong teams in each one.
  18. Are there any good "Senior" pitchers in the Knoxville area?
  19. Word is that next year about 20 students will be coming from Washburn. Half of those will be taking a class not offered there (mostly Cosmotology) and the other half will be full time students. Out of those 10 or so students, I am not sure if any are athletes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to them coming over. I wish more did. Truth is right now there are very few students from Washburn coming to the new Grainger High School.
  20. Grainger is just the renaming of Rutledge High School. The new school is 5-6 miles from the old RHS building. There was not any combining of any other schools to make Grainger High School. Grainger's ace would probably be Ryan Webster 7-1. The number two is Billy Conley 6-0.
  21. Good luck in the tournament Grizzlies. One side has Grainger, Union and Gap and the other has Pf, GP and Claiborne. I wonder if GP can give PF some trouble if Watson has a good game? This drawing makes for an interesting tournament.
  22. Yes I am from Grainger County. Thanks for the comments on Cierra Mudd. She has been really great for the last two years and she is definitely an outstanding young lady. You were correct, she has signed with LMU.
  23. Great win for the Lady Patriots. What pitchers threw for UC and for PF? Tomorrows game is big, good luck to both teams.
  24. Who are the top Senior pitchers from Middle and East TN? Also, if they have signed who have they signed with?
  25. Saturday was definitely another day. Grainger 12-0 in five innings @ GP.
