  1. There is a reason that Witten cancelled this series shortly after he became the head coach. I think we will see why he didn't want any part of GHS then, and he still doesn't.
  2. Being reported(and talked about quite a bit) that CDHS was disqualified, but SGHS lost, so there will be no runner-up representation from this district. Apparently since the SGHS coach didn't catch it, and protest it, before the end of the game, they were tagged with the loss. Tri-Cities sports monster radio has talked about this all morning.
  3. It's not his job to cover Greeneville or Greene County football. Any coverage we get is just a bonus. However, it is(or should be) the Greeneville Sun's job to cover area teams. Wayne Phillips should be embarrassed that the JC Press has written seperate articles on BJ and Willie, while he has done ZERO.
  4. I still stand by my original premise that it's a shame that the local paper can't cover a local team as well as a city 35 miles away. I can't recall the Sun ever doing a story during the season on a local athlete. For pete's sake, Willie is Mr. Football and this is his first year at the school. If the Sun was the only info I got, I wouldn't know anything about him. The Sun has always been pitiful in regards to keeping up with area athletes. It should be an embarrassment to them that they never cover local athletes that move on to college ball. In the 30+ years that I've followed Greeneville/Greene County sports, I've always been disappointed that they don't regularly update us with how the atletes are doing. Whether it's baseball, basketball, football, or any other sport, once they leave, you'll never find anything about them in the Sun. Obviously, you don't care for Doug Fritz, and that is fine. However you lose credibility when you talk about how poor his coverage is, but then compliment the G'ville Sun's non-existant coverage.
  5. I'm a G'ville resident and I couldn't disagree more. The Greeneville Rag only gives GHS token coverage. Wayne must be too scared that he will upset the county residents if he does too many G'ville stories. JC Press(Fritz) did an article on Willie 2 months ago. Other than the game preview, the Sun never writes additional articles. I generally agree with you Barb, but to think that the Sun gives GHS "GREAT" coverage, you must be friends with Wayne Phillips. Can you point to any articles during the season that the Sun had? The only coverage they give is the exact coverage that ALL of the Greene County teams get. I think it's a real shame that Fritz had to do an article that Wayne should have done(Willie's story).
  6. If you go to the TSSAA website, there is a link where you can see events online. ONce on that page, you can see the event, and choose to buy a dvd. The cost is $24.95 + $2 shipping.
  7. If Thompson was D1 talent, why wouldn't USC have played him a bit more? Maybe UT was a better judge of talent then USC? Just saying....
  8. Not at all. Maybe you should brush up on your reading comprehension skills since I asked nothing about the state championship.
  9. Since the playoffs started, I've heard this pronounced 4 or 5 different ways. Can someone from that area please enlighten me? Is it pronounced as it appears? TREZ A VANT
  10. Congrats to Willie. I just watched the replay of the awards ceremony on the TSSAA website. Here are a few things I noticed: -Willie looked pretty snazzy with the green tie(represented Greeneville very well). -According to someone, Willie was a 4-yr starter at Greeneville High. -The Gibbs back had a hand/wrist injury. When and what happened to him? -All 3 finalists were from East Tennessee.
  11. Who hates something? Just because I don't think he is a D-1 football prospect, I'm a hater? Grow up. I'm a GHS fan, but I'm also realistic. I'm very happy that won the Mr. Football award, and I didn't say he wasn't deserving. However, everyone that puts up huge stats isn't necessarily a future college player. It's not a knock on him. What's your definition of "looking" at him? Did UT send him a letter? Ask him to take an official visit? Offer a scholarship? If you think he is an SEC caliber player, you need to remove the Greene sunglasses.
  12. That's Derek Dooley, not Derrick. Also, if I'm not mistakes, coaches aren't allowed to discuss recruits by name, so I find it highly unlikely that he was being discussed on the DD show. Willie is a very fast runner, but I just don't see him playing college fb. In my opinion, Spradlin seems to get a lot of his yards as a the workhorse, while Willie put up some gaudy numbers due to some bad conference teams. I'd be interested to compare the stats game-by-game to see how Willie's numbers looked. Not taking anything away from him, because he is very talented, but he's not a D-1 prospect.
  13. Hi Barb, I just read the article but don't see anything disparaging. Doug has provided very good coverage of GHS this year, and (I think) honestly wants to see us bring it home. He doesn't have an axe to grind. I didn't see anything that I would disagree with. To be honest, he's covered us much better than our own rag(Greeneville Sun). Not sure if Wayne Phillips is afraid to upset the county folks with extra coverage, but he has done nothing. I've found out much more from Jesse Smithy(Knox News Sentinel) and Fritz than I have with the G-ville Sun. Not trying to be argumentative, but what would you disagree with?
  14. Considering heading down today. What is the ticket situation? How many does it hold? Any danger of sellout, or standing room only?
  15. I'll bet you don't have a problem when a city player goes to the county to play at South Greene, or someone zoned for SG goes to Chuckey-Doak. You do realize that when SG was dominating girls b-ball in the late 80's-late 90's, those weren't all girls from the SG feeder schools?
  16. That's what I assumed too, Barb. His accepting another AA job(at Scott County) surprises me.
  17. I somewhat agree, however, if she is trying to get across the point that athletes and athletics don't have priority, and will be held to the same rules as the "regular" students, kudos to her. The downside is that innocent teammates pay the price, but the sooner that the kids learn that the administration rules the school, the better off they will be.
  18. I'm hearing the same thing. Hadn't heard about the faculty meetings, but had heard about the blow-up w/Stroud. I honestly suspect that there are several that will glad to see him go. The alleged "supplemental" pay was the source of a lot of hard feelings.
  19. This was my 2nd game at the refurbished stadium, and the darkness was my first impression as well. Still don't like the black lettering in the end zones. Greeneville has always been green and white, not green, white, and black. Good luck Rebels! You've got a great program.
  20. I think you are incorrect in stating that G'ville hasn't been past the 3rd round. In 2000, they made it to the 4th round, where they actually played Maryville.
  21. Now I see /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> You are correct, it's not for everyone. It's a true commitment, but so is being a good teacher at any level. I'm not sure how that last sentence and smiley face got added to my quote in your post.....that's strange?????
  22. Do you really want to take one poster and draw a conclusion on homeschooling? Better be careful because the majority on here are products of the public school system, and the grammar is, oftentimes, atrocious. Not trying to start a debate here, just saying that in your position, you should know better than to go down that road. FWIW, Tim Tebow was from a homeschooled family, and he seems to be well adjusted. My point is, homeschoolers, just like public school students, come in all makes and models. Therefore, to draw a conclusion such as yours does an injustice to homeschoolers everywhere.
  23. Here's a thought regarding the attendance at last night's game. I went to the game, but didn't take my family due to the weather in the teens. In September, this would have been a family affair. In looking around the GHS side last night, there weren't a lot of younger(10 and under) children. So, in my case I brought only myself instead of a family of 4 or 5. If several families do this, you can see how attendance would naturally drop off. I will agree that the South fans did travel very well well. So, based on what I said above, maybe your young children are tougher than mine?
