  1. This is a great point 58INDIANS22. That is why if you saw KAYCI FERRIS play I believe you would agree she is worthy of this award. She scored 820 points just this year, and that is with double and triple teaming since the first tipoff of the first game she ever played in. Gwen Delk may be deserving I am not disputing that, because I have not seen her play. However, I have watched girls basketball for over 20 years, and after seeing nearly every game KAYCI FERRIS has played in I can honestly say she is deserving as well.
  2. No disrespect inteded, but when you saw KAYCI FERRIS in AAU that was the Summer after her 7th Grade year at latest, because that is the last time she played AAU. Kayci has accumulated the states best stats in the one of the states toughest districts.
  3. I am really not trying to pick a fight, but I wonder if you still agree with your above post about KAYCI FERRIS due to her statline against Livingston in the 2nd round Region elimination game: 35 POINTS, 16 REBOUNDS, 6 BLOCKS. I also have been told that KAYCI FERRIS led the region tournament in total points and total rebounds for the region tournamen, AND SHE ONLY PLAYED IN TWO OF THE POSSIBLE 3 GAMES SHE COULD HAVE PLAYED. She accumulated these stats against District 8AA #1 seed Station Camp and District 7AA #2 seed Livingston Acad. Also, she was consistantly double and triple teamed by both of these teams. That is not to bad for a freshman in arguably the toughest district in the state. KAYCI FERRIS is AA Miss Basketball.
  4. If you do not know then you are not qualified to comment. Laken is on a better team, and has supierior surrounding talent. I do know Laken and she is an amazing young lady. Laken Leonard for Miss Basketball A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do not know about Kayci Ferriss, then why comment? Again, she has less help than Laken, she plays in the toughest district in the state, she gets physically abused night in and night out by double and triple teams, she does make excellent grades, she is an excellent young lady, and she has had to overcome more than any 20 other children I know with her family circumstances. Furthermore, Kayci has willingly played thru tremendous injury for her teams sake, now that is character. Fortunately Kayci and Laken are not competing for the same title. As a matter of fact they are great friends and I know they are rooting for each other. This is not a cumulative award and Kayci's stats alone stand for them self. But as everyone else who does not have the stats to back up their arguments for their canidate they talk about their favorite candidate and their heart and character and their story. Kayci has the best stats, there is NO doubt, but she also has the best story. Kayci Ferriss for Miss Basketball AA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYONE PLEASE LIMIT THEIR COMMENTS TO WHAT THEY KNOW, AND TRY TO KEEP IT POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Very good points aj1133, ALMOST. Smith County did play Harpeth twice. The first scrimmage was Kayci Ferriss's 1st scrimmage as a high school player. In that game that Ferris supposedly was "shut down" she had 18 points and 18 rebounds and 6 blocks. Smith County lost by 2. In the next scrimmage Ferris dominated the game and Smith County won. (sorry I do not have the stats for that game) I am not here to speak negatively about any player, especially one of mendenhall's caliber, but I must respond to your comment about shooting 3-4 feet from the goal. That is an illogical argument, and here is why: [1st] Tell Mendenhall to only shoot from 3-4 feet only. Thats right, she couldn't, which leads right in to my apples and oranges comparison. I wouldn't expect mendenhall too, while a great player, she is a diferent style player than ferris. Do you believe mendenhall has the defensive effect on a game that ferris does? [2nd] Ferris has racked up these stats with 2 and 3 people guarding her all year long. Furthermore, stats do not reflect Ferris's importance to her team. And it is an INSULT for you to imply that Ferris is just "BIG" and mendenhall has "talent and ability". It is obvious Mendenhall does have talent and ability, and she is a great player. But your statement implies that Ferris does not have talent and ability and she is only big. Mendenhall should be considered for this award. FERRIS should also be considered for MISS BASKETBALL.
  6. And Kayci Ferris is shooting over 75% from the field. (oh by the way, her last 4 games over 84%)
  7. I am glad you are a fan of stats. Thats shows you are willing to objectively compare players from around the state. In my opinion, stats are the only way to compare apples to oranges to pears. I have seen both Mandy and Ashley play, and they are very similar players and certainly deserving of consideration. However, looking at the same TENNESSEAN.COM Kayci Ferriss leads the state in rebounding and blocks, and has led most of the year in points [she may currently lead in points, I just have not checked in about a week]. When looking at stats they do not reflect grade, height, age or any thing else, which is just how it should be. With the stats alone of KAYCI FERRIS she should be in the running for Miss Basketball.
  8. Thanks Coach T for the visit to Smith County. I hate to assume anything, but I wonder if you came to see Kayci Ferris and Ashley Matthews? If so, despite Kayci's stats (23 points on 10 for 11 shooting, 18 rebounds, and 7 blocks) that was probably one of the worst games she played all year. I urge you to ask around to verify that. However, I think you were treated to excellent team play by Livingston led by an all-star performance by Ashley Matthews. I wonder if that was the first time you saw Kayci play and your initial impressions? Once again, thank you for the appearance in Smith County and thank you for the service that this website provides.
  9. [CONTINUING MY PRIOR POST] Now to the non-statistical and the touchy feely, There is no other player in the state that alters the game opponents games plans, both offensively and defensively, than KAYCI FERRIS. She also has the intangibles, heart, guts and leadership AND she has overcome tremendous personal adversity. She is a Freshman. She is 6' 8" tall. BUT SHE ALSO HAS AMONG THE TOP OR THE TOP STATISTICS IN THE STATE FOR ALL CLASSIFICATIONS. IT IS HARD TO MEASURE ALL OF THE TOUCHY FEELY STUFF, BUT THE STATS DO NOT LIE. SHE HAS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR MISS BASKETBALL.
  10. Although I appreciate many folks nominating their local stars and citing "guts and heart of the team", I truly appreciate someone like GOVMAN who includes stats. That is why I nominate KAYCI FERRIS for AA Miss Basketball from Smith County. Here are the stats for Kayci: 26 points per game, 16 rebounds per game, and 6 blocks per game. All these stats are verifiable with Smith County's Sports Information Director. All these stats are #1 in the state according to tennessean.com. I have no official stats (because I do not believe state wide stats on triple doubles exist), but would be willing to bet that Kayci also leads the state in triple doubles. She has had about 8 games with "triple doubles". I would likewise be willing to bet she leads the state in games where she has had what I call "Triple Twenties". That is a game where she has scored a minimum of twenty points, had a minimum of twenty rebounds, and had a minimum of twenty blocks. Kayci had 3 games where she has had these "Triple Twenties". The most impressive of which was accomplished against Central Hardin High School of Kentucky (Ranked in the top 5 teams in Kentucky) where she had 35 points, 28 rebounds, and 22 blocks. Kayci has accomplished these amazing individual statistics while playing in district 7AA, which is year in and year out one of the toughest districts in the state. Kayci has also accomplished these stats with constant double and triple teamming from opponents. Now to the non-statistical and the touchy feely, There is no other player in the state that alters the game opponents games plans, both offensively and defensively, than
  11. Antwan, I seem to recall that you and Queen Bee were discussing brackets for the Lady Invitational of the South in Allen County / Scottsville Kentucky, whereby you gave out a website that had the bracket. Do you recall that website? Sorry to get off topic on this thread but I didn't know anyother way to contact you about this. Thanks.
  12. I am sick and tired of hearing the rumors about Ferris leaving Smith County. Normally it is sad enough alone that people would start rumors about something as important to teenage girls as stability in their life and moving for the sake of basketball. It is also understandable somewhat because it is interesting and effects many communities if a gifted child plans to move anywhere. In this case, however, it is much worse. People just assume that Kayci moved from Jackson County (4 recent gold balls) to Smith County (0 gold balls, silver balls, etc.). That obviously makes no sense. If people only knew the personal and family struggles that led Kayci to Jackson County from Smith County, and then back to Smith County from Jackson County they would probably leave her alone. Again, normally feel free to talk about all the prospective basketball movers that you want if you personally know their situation. But remember that if you talk about some ambiguous girl that you do not really know, that she has a life that is possibly being lived out through the pages of coacht. In Kayci's situation, her family that she is with deeply cares for her and has gone thru many struggles with her. It is insulting that it has been said that they only seek personal gain. Respectfully, in Kayci's situation, please do not fuel the online fire, and believe that she is a teenage girl who is already different than everyone she knows because of her height. Please do not add to the "freakshow" mentality that people often have with her. When any of us are online and typing away, I bet we are really thinking about basketball. When we think about basketball alone her height seems a complete blessing. When you think about her life, she may consider it a curse. In this instance, please do not think of basketball alone and consider there may also be the fragile life of a young girl involved. Please don't spread RUMORS.
  13. I have heard ferris say she would trade team awards for individual awards. I think nearly everyplayer in 7AA would say the same thing, maybe that speaks to the competitive nature of the district. the discussion we constantly have is between fans, i dont believe that their are any individuals players posting and they would not take individual over team.
  14. I guess when Kayci Ferris blocked the first four shots Dyer shot was Dyers way of getting the upper hand (in your eyes). If anything, Kayci does NOT get the credit she deserves BECAUSE she is 6' 8". I saw the same thing with Brandi Brown, even though Kayci and Brandi are very different style players. Many people just say look at "the tall girl." However, Kayci, similar to the Dyer girl, both have good hands, feet, and knowledge of the game. I agree if any body deserves to be in the MVP discussion, Lashay Davis, definitely does. In my mind she may be the best all around player in the district. But Bee Fan, if you are honest with yourself, how many players in the district would you pick to be on your team over Kayci. Kayci Does make her team better. What would smith county's record be without ferris? What would uppermans record be without davis? I think Kayci makes her team better. That leads me again to state, that Kayci Ferris should at least be considered.
  15. I admit i have a biased opinion, becasue i have watched this young lady so much, but i believe the most valuable player in 7AA is Kayci Ferris. I will give four reasons: (1) Which player in the district would coaches most like to have on their team? (2) Which player in the district could their team absolutely not live without? (3) Which players do coaches have to specifically gameplan to stop? (4) And statistically speaking, which player in the district has better stats than 25 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 blocks per game?
  16. Well Antwan, was it just my imagination or was there a celebrity observer in Bill Landreth gymnasium in Smith County last night. I bet you came to see the "Big Show", Kayci Ferris. What did you think? Again, she was double and tripled teamed all night and only had 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Not bad for a freshman.
  17. Yes, it is Kayci Ferris of Smith County. Yes the record is 10-10. Yes she is 6' 8" tall. Does any of that take away from her impact? Very few players of any grade classification demand that the opposing coach gameplan specifically for that player, especially a freshman. The fact that Ferris has such a weak supporting cast should only add to the fact that she is not only a great freshman, or a great player, but also among the best in the state.
  18. I have been a coacht fan for years, but have just now been moved to log on and participate in any discussions. On the subject "BEST FRESHMEN IN TENNESSEE," I will pose the following questions: What if there was a freshman that averaged legitimately 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 blocks per each of the 21 high school varsity games she played in? What if that freshman has had many "triple double" games and has had 3 games where she had "TRIPLE TWENTY" stats (that is where she had at least 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 20 blocked shots)? What if that freshman got these numbers while being consistantly double and triple teamed, and occasionally quadruple teamed? What if that freshman was single handedly responsible for holding opponents 2 point field goal percentage to 37%? What if that freshman plays in one of the toughest districts n AA and has played top 5 state ranked competition in both TN and KY? Is there any other freshman in TN that has had this kind of impact? Is there any other freshman in TN that has had these kind of stats? IF ALL OF THIS WERE TRUE, IN ADDITION TO BEST FRESHMAN IN TENNESSE, SHOULD SHE BE CONSIDERED FOR MISS BASKETBALL? This freshman does exist. These numbers are legitamate. I was just curious to hear anyones opinion
