  1. Coach Gregory with backs, coach Berrong with d-backs and linebackers, coaches Justice and Davidson with linemen(BIG SKILL PEOPLE) coach Roberts with coaches Berrong and Gregory and coach Summey everywhere, seemingly all at the same time. 33 were at practice today, with around 20 involved in other sports and 25-40 fall freshmen will be coming in.As to the rest of your post,ME TOO!!!!
  2. From what I have been able to gather, the clown's son was the one who threatened coach Summey."Can't wait to eat,O Lord,kum-ba-ya," "He's made me hungry,Lord,kum-ba-ya." Thanks for your refreshing and humorous posts, truly a breath of fresh air in all the smog.
  3. Ihave been rather quiet on this issue for a reason,to see what was on everyone's mind. For the young 6'1" basketball player who posted earlier,my comments would be the same as Sid,no need to go there.I,too, noticed the errors in the article, which I thought was cleverly pointed out.I am concerned there is any opposition at all.I have been taught to achieve excellence, you must strive for excellence...to obtain discipline, you must be disciplined. In other words, this begins on a personal level and evolves as you age.Kids will be kids, they will push the limits, and do what you let them get away with.I know a large number of kids that will never have a problem with coach Summey because they are motivated to obey the rules and improve daily.A lot of this motivation must come from the home. Some are not fortunate enough to receive this,so it must happen at school. If one kid responds in a positive manner,in my opinion,it has been worth all the turmoil.I have already witnessed one young man in particular who has responded this way.He is working hard in the weight room, has lost weight and firmed up,and was so excited to show coach Summey his progress he almost ran me over to get to the scales! I am quite sure he will not be the only one.The motivation is showing on the practice field,as is the discipline.I definitely see the need for a public meeting or poll or something along this line to affirm our commitment to a better school as well as sports teams.I,perhaps, would have gone about this in a different manner, but the simple fact is there are problems that need to be fixed, light has been cast on these issues(regardless whether you or I like the way it was done) and they must be fixed!Drop the complaining, concentrate on fixing the problem.I would say to Mr.Moser,I still believe this was a great hire,I still believe the communities are closer to united than ever, continue this path, support this man,and let's be proud to see our kids be all they can possibly as students and players.I had to have a little push from time to time in school, our new Superintendent got to push a little at times(even with a paddle)and I am extremely thankful! Coach Summey should not be made a fall guy for the shortcomings he has pointed out,and if allowed I am certain he will lead the charge to fix them. One other thing,I know this is lengthy.Look at where this man came from. One of the best school systems in the state!Should we require less from our kids than Maryville does of theirs? If you think so,you do our kids a great injustice! There,I feel better now.
  4. I saw you leaving early yesterday. You should have stuck around.Plumb hurt my feelings, sitting there by myself, and I even showered before I went.Seriously,my son was very enthused about practice, said there was some aggressive hitting and coaching going on.A few times he thought coach Summey was going to jump so high from excitement he might touch the moon. All the boys seem to be responding well and working hard.Tuesday night is the Loudon scrimmage. It will be interesting to see how far they progress in a week.Obviously, they will be behind offensively, learning a new system, but it should be fun.Get on board the momentum train, full steam ahead!
  5. Good advice, which I have not heeded. For my ownself,I will say I am going to trust things will be handled properly, and I will continue to pray our kids stay safe and recieve what they are there for.Unfortunately,I had to leave before the hitting started but am glad to hear the encouraging report from Black & Gold.Hopefully, everyone of the kids are feeling the same as yours and the momentum will continue to build!
  6. I believe I saw you yesterday conversing with that ckb feller what leads the kids.
  7. Could this possibly be a case of sour grapes? He(coach Summey)has been in the classroom every year since he started, and he is not an old guy.I believe your cousin needs a new source of information.I do not believe anyone desires to see Mr. Moser step down either, just be consistent. No rules changes going on,just enforcing the existing ones, which he was told to do when he started. We'll talk in a couple years and see if there are any regrets. How does Red Bank feel about you,or should we even ask about Loudon? As I have said before,he will be consistent day after day,and from start to finish. What better example for our young people could you ask for?Plant your feet, stand your ground, face what comes head on.Many call this old school thinking.Ever read the BIBLE?Seek the old paths, and walk therein.Seems right to me.
  8. So it is okay for our students not to be pushed because theydon't want to be?In my opinion, that is what is asinine. One thing I would like to point out, coach is being called hard nosed ,rocking the boat to hard,etc...Good thing these kids didn't grow up a few short years ago and these teachers didn't teach then.If you want him to change, good luck.I don't see it happening.Do we really want less than a school 25 miles up the road? Also,he is under attack for being strict.Ever check anybody else?I don't think she will mind me mentioning this.Ask the assembly employees at SEA RAY if Mrs. Karen Woody is strict. Many of these kids will enter the work force in the near future,do we want them prepared to be successful or not?Sleep in a job and see what happens.I also wondered about the teachers who now have free time. When you go into a place, you are handed a rule book and told this is what we go by,do you just ignore it or try to do the best you can to follow the rules? It is my understanding that a kid that threatens a teacher is violating the no tolerance policy.Am I right or not?As far as I know, coach Summey has not acted one time in a way that is harmful to a kid.Can every coach and teacher answer that way?Ask around and see.
  9. I have also been told that Mr. Moser has questioned if he made the right decision to hire coach Summey. He thought it would bring the communities together. For the one who polices this at Sequoyah, would you please let him know it definitely was the right decision.Proof was in the parking lot of the high school yesterday. There was an even mix of Madisonville and Vonore folks at the tailgate party to welcome coach Gregory and his family to Sequoyah, talking with enthusiasm about the upcoming spring practice and season. It was great, and this is just the start!Again,I would like to invite the slow to believe and respond to get on board the train,it is picking up momentum, don't get left behind!
  10. They were heatedly discussing the discipline(or lack thereof,I should say)of the youngster who threatened coach.I agree,it should take place in a more secluded place.I'm with you,the rules are already in place, end of discussion. If the names who have been mentioned to me as being involved, meaning teachers,I can't really say I am surprised.I would really, really,REALLY, like to know the names of the teachers who have a problem with students being woke up in their classrooms. Why and how are they allowed to sleep in class in the first place? Is it not possible to motivate these kids to learn? Granted, some won't,no matter what. Most need to be properly motivated. My teachers had no problem motivating me.Others, they had to work at.Is this too much to ask? After all, isn't that what they have been hired to do?Laziness will never motivate a kid to learn, and I believe teaching a kid to learn sometimes means changing the approach.I can tell you my daughter is much easier to motivate than my son.I have to use different methods with each. The kids at Sequoyah are not robots, and they will all respond if that is truly the desire of the teachers. Now, I am not degrading the teachers at all, because I believe the problem to be a very small percentage who just need to remember why they got in the profession to begin with.Coach Summey told me "I came here to make a difference." I say,let him do what he came to do!
  11. We do need a community meeting to emphasize the fact we want the rules enforced, regardless who's kid needs the rules explained to them.Coach Summey is doing a great job(I say this because I hear a lot of complaining about rules being enforced)and we need to stand behind him. When a teacher or school employee is threatened with bodily injury, quick and decisive action is needed!Coach was threatened 3 times this morning by 1 student who then received only a 1 week suspension. What happens at the end of the week off, this student decides everyone is the enemy and brings a gun to school and randomly shoots several students?Think it won't happen, look at Virginia Tech.I have 2 kids out there and many more I love dearly.I want coach to lead the crackdown and everyone else to get on board from the principal on down through the teachers to the custodians and everyone else who works there! We are talking about a serious issue that has the possibility to turn deadly! If the principal and teachers do not feel this way, they need to get out of this line of work! Also,if he catches either of my kids sleeping in a class,I want him to wake them and have them call me to explain why this particular class is not important enough to stay awake for. This is an education facility, with employees of the tax payers of this county expected to educate the children in attendance. If that means they need an education in reality they don't receive at home,so be it.I can't go to my job every day, sleep through half the shift, and expect to keep my job very long.School is not for play,it is for learning, which must be worked at.In closing,I say "You go,Coach Summey!"
  12. Since the Mayor lives next door to you, just go ahead if you want to.I had forgotten about that. That will be better than I can do anyway.Thanks.
  13. I will talk to those I know and try to set it up for 5-12.
  14. Anything on another roadblock in the works? Also, the equipment is handed out by class, seniors first, then juniors, and so on,right? Will practice start as soon as school lets out for the day?One other thing,is everything a go for coach Gregory this weekend?
  15. Bunky VanSkyver from Greenback would have to be included,I would think.
  16. Any idea of time frame on the 28th?Here's casting my vote(if I had one)for Mr. Lowry.
  17. Am I to understand you are not coaching? What's the deal?
  18. I got to go out after school yesterday to see the boys lifting and running.Man,you talk about working hard! They were really getting after it!Certainly was good to see the senior leadership on display.I believe these kids really want to be successful. If I didn't miscount, there was 45 kids there, some were 8th graders working out.Does anyone know how many are attending morning workouts?
  19. Same from the Sequoyah communities.Coach was a good man who surely will be missed!
  20. Thanks for confirming the Loudon scrimmage.I thought it had worked out but I wasn't sure. Thanks to all who worked Saturday.Improvements being made, teams in season are more competitive than ever, momentum is building at SEQUOYAH!Yes sir,the times they are a-changin' for the better!
