  1. Rayl hit Moss on a 50 yd bomb. Beautiful pitch and catch. Then the 2nd TD came from a Freshman or JV CB #6 intercepted the ball and ran it back about 40yds for the TD. Line looked ok to me but it's hard to tell in a Jamboree.
  2. Scrimmage with Heritage has been rescheduled for Saturday Aug. 1st at 4:00 pm. It will be held at Heritage High School.
  3. Due to the rain tonight's game with Heritage has been canceled. Do not know for sure if it will be rescheduled or not. Clean Up Day at the field will be on Saturday August 8th. We need as many volunteers as we can get. Thanks!
  4. First scrimmage is with Heritage July 31st at Heritage. Second scrimmage is with Hamilton Heights Aug. 11th at Home. Not sure of the start times.
  5. Guess it's time for me to chime in. First of all losing Steinhardt was a very big blow to this team. Yes Coach did move him to the backfield and I ask you if you were a middle LB would you want to him him coming at you to lay a block on you? Now when the team scrimmaged Wartburg we had problems moving the ball down the field when we ran to the side where Big Bell and Steinhardt played last year. Before the scrimmage was over Coach moved Steinhardt back to his guard position and we moved the ball right down the field. So I feel like if we struggled at the line of scrimmage Coach would have moved Steinhardt back to the line. All of this is now a mute point. He is recovering well but still a long way to go. Moving on we need Sellin, Arp and Wiggins to step up. Wiggins is a big ole strong kid and he has improved each year, Sellin is a Sr and this is his chance for some serious playing time, Arp has played for years and knows the game well. Now for the rest of the line Workman and Peels will be fine was glad to see coach leave them together. During the Spring plays run to their side averaged better than 10 yards a play. They know each other well and make changes at the line of scrimmage if they see the need and when they double team even I could get 8 to 10 yards running behind them. At the center position last year Roberts done a great job. To answer your question Slobber this year look for Pettit at Center. He has gotten alot stronger since last season and will do good in the middle. Now with this all being said can we run the ball? Yes we can run the ball we can protect our QB and we have kids that can go get the deep ball. So we should be ok Offensively. Sorry for the long winded post guys. GO CHIEFS!!
  6. We have a good number of kids out I think I counted 49 yesterday. That's pretty good considering the 8th graders aren't part of the mix yet. I'm sure we will loose a few but it looks like when fall rolls around we should have close to 60 players on the practice field. Clearly we have some big holes to fill. With the move of Steinhardt to the backfield our line has two returning starters. There is a golden opportunity for someone to step up and make an impact and take those jobs. We have some kids out this year that didn't play last year that could step in and help out this year if they work hard and learn. Our QB situation right now is by committee. Our #1 QB hasn't been cleared for contact yet so we have a JR and two SO working with the 1st team. The backfield is also by committee with 4 or 5 different TB and 2 FB. We are blessed with a good core of Receivers. Two Sr's and three Jr's look very good catching the ball. Defensively we should be ok. We are solid at LB and the line looks ok, the secondary will be ok there is some work to do there but we should be fine. We head to Wartburg for a scrimmage today. I'm sure we will learn a lot after today's scrimmage.
  7. Lift-a-Thon Date has changed. Will be held on Sat. the 16th @ 1:00 pm. The public is invited to attend.
  8. Here is the 2009 schedule for the Chiefs next year: Aug 21 Scott County Away Aug 28 Tellico Plains Home Sept 4 Meigs County* Home Sept 11 Lenoir City Away Sept 18 OPEN Sept 25 CAK Away Oct 2 McMinn Central* Away Oct 9 Signal Mtn. Home Oct 16 Polk County* Home Oct 23 Loudon Home Oct 30 Sweetwater* Away * District Games
  9. This should be a great game. Both teams with nothing to loose and everything to gain. I think a win for either team would be a big boost for next year. I look for both teams to come out running the ball. Both have good offensive lines and can move the ball on the ground. Turnovers might be the difference in this game. GO CHIEFS !!!
  10. IS tonights game on the radio? If so could someone let me know the station. Thanks
  11. Not out as of yet. Teams that I have been told that will be in our region are: Sweetwater, Meigs, McMinn Central and Polk. I'm sure a few more will be added soon. Loudon will be on our schedule but not in our region as of now. We will also be playing non region games with Tellico and Lenior City.
  12. Yes they still can make the playoffs but it's a slim chance. We have Howard and Meigs left to play and we would need to beat both in order to have a chance. Also Notre Dame has Grundy and Polk left to play and they would need to lose one of those games. East Ridge has Tellico and Grundy left to play and if I understood the TSSAA handbook correctly they have a chance if they win out and Seq. and ND win 1 of thier remaining 2 games leaving all three tied with 4 region wins and each beating the other. The second tie breaker then would go to the team with the best over-all record and that would be East Ridge. Confusing to say the least. As for your second question, both teams are very good but I would have to give the nod to MC. The interesting thing is that Polk has a very good inside running game and MC can be vulnerable up the middle. Then on the other hand MC has a very good passing game while Polk is lacking in defending the pass. So with that plus all the rivalry stuff it should make for an interesting game.
  13. Just wanted to correct you a little. We will have 3 returning starters on offense all lineman and return 4 on defense with 2 others who have seen extensive time on the field this year and last. What will hurt is replacing the skill people. The entire starting backfield and recieving core will be new.
  14. Ok I have a question. What is the first tie breaker on making the playoffs? They way I see it the best E.R. can do is to go 4 and 4 in the region which should put them in a tie with Seq. if they can win 1 out of the 3 remaining games they have left. "Polk, Howard or Meigs" Since they beat E.R. would that not put them in the 4th spot? Then on another note, ND is still in but they will have to win at least 2 of thier remaining 3 games. "Tellico, Grundy or Polk" WE could possibly have three teams tie with 4 region wins at the end of the year. Head to Head each has beat the other so then what is the next tie breaker? It is quite possible that the top 3 teams could have the same scenario if Polk manages to beat Central and then Central beats Howard. So it should make for an interesting end of the season for several teams.
  15. Just wanted to remind everyone that the start time for the Grundy game will be 8:00 pm instead of 7:30 pm and while I'm at it the Howard and Meigs games will be on Thursday nights instead of the usual Friday night. Just a little info. Chiefs need to focus this week and not look ahead to next week. It was a battle with Grundy last year and came down to the wire and by the way I have copies of that game along with all of the last season with all proceeds going to the Football Feed the Team Fund if anyone is interested. Chiefs can still make a very good season if they take care of buisness. They need a little help to make the playoffs but we need to win the games we are suppose to and then work hard to give Polk and Howard all they want. All of a sudden I'm a big East Ridge fan. GO CHIEFS !!!
