  1. We will be solid in the Offensive line next year I believe. You have Roberts "Senior" who started I think the 1st 3 games at R. Guard and then moved to Center for the rest of the year, Workman "Junior" who started the at Center for the 1st 3 and then moved to L. Tackle for the rest of the year, Bell "Senior" started all year at R. Tackle, Steinhardt "Junior" started 6 games at R. Guard, then Peels "Soph." started 3 games at L. Tackle and 1 at R. Guard and was a backup for Brackett and Steinhardt in the other games. I can think of a few others that you have to mention that could very well step in and either start or fill in as backup on the line, they are next year Seniors Moore, Payne and Watson if his knees will allow him to play. Others that will need to be worked so they can be ready to play in 2009 or perhaps next year are next year Juniors Day and Williford, and next year Soph. B. Jubar. Don't know about the incoming Freshman. I feel good about next year in our line play espically if these guys will buckle down in the weight room. We need to be alot stronger across the board.
  2. White and Breeden I believe will be solid at FB and WB then I agree with Dum Dum That Carson would make a great reciever. He's not that tall but can glide down the field and has soft hands. As for the other WB position I think you can look for Zitsch, Owen, Corvette and possibly Archer to compete for the spot. Zitsch before his injury last season looked very good returning kicks in JV and he Owen and Corvette all have good speed, Archer aka Slow-Bill reads blocks well and has good moves he just isn't all that fast.. Jubar will make a solid backup for White at FB but don't count out young Stewart. He should get alot of work in JV this season and could help out in any of the positions in the backfield he is a tough runner and hard to tackle. The door is open for some of these young guys to step up and do thier part.
  3. He is not working out with the Baseball team so that might be true.
  4. Yes you heard right. Coach Quarles will be the Guest Speaker.
  5. On another note is you haven't already heard, the Football Banquet has been set for Dec 20th at the Grand vista Hotel at 7:00 pm. Anyone interested in coming needs to go by the school office and purchase your Dinner ticket ($15). If you don't want to eat then you can purchase a general ticket for $5 either at the school office or at the door the night of the banquet.
  6. Could we see a 2 QB system next year??? I know I really would like to see Eli helping out in the secondary.
  7. that is an excellent idea Red_Nation but in order for that to happen both towns would have to committ to doing this. It was tried 3 years ago. The Madisonville kids were there and ready but for what ever reason the Vonore group never showed. So a meeting of the minds would have to take place to assure that both towns would agree to do this. In order for a Middle School program to work you really need a faculty member let me re-phrase that a competent faculty member that is willing to take the idea and run with it. He should also be paid for doing this so there you go having to get the School Board to approve this. In my opinion you would come closer to getting blood out of a turnip. So I personally think that it will be years before this can happen. Our area is growing and will continue to grow meaning more families moving into both Mad. and Vonore in turn meaning more kids. So I have no doubt that a Middle School Football program will come but not as soon as we would like it. So what do we do in the meantime. Well there are pro's and cons to this idea too but I believe that both LL programs should combine into one. I know I know the younger age groups could possibly have 60 kids on each team and that would be hard to deal with but I know that 2 years ago if Vonore and Mad. had combined to make one team all of the teams would have been a very hard to beat. If nothing else Red_Nations idea would be the easiest solution for the time being. On another note Slobber Knocker, I talked with coach Summey yesterday and he said they had 31 kids lifting daily and that wasn't counting the kids that are working out with the Baseball team or the kids that are participating in Basketball and Wrestling.
  8. Don't know about the color thing I like what we have now. As for your last question and I hope I don't leave anyone out, Moser, Rodgers, Peels, Steinhardt, Workman and both Helms boys.
  9. Sounds like next weeks Howard/Central thread could be a good read too. Thank you Polk and Central this week has been entertaining. I think that Polk comes away with the win in this game and here's why: Central didn't play last week and that will hurt them. Haven't heard anything about this week's practices. Was weather a factor? Were practices shortened due to it? Probably not but with all the other distractions that went on how good could the practices have gone? Now I think coach Derrick has done a great job with the team and I am not taking anything away from him but I think Coach Davis will have the upper hand in the 2nd half. Everyone knows of all the tallent the Chargers have this year and they are living up to thier billing. Polk on the other hand have very good players with no real stand-outs and look at the job they are doing. That in my opinion is a credit to thier coach. Good Luck to both teams. I hope it is a good game for your fans and an injury free game. We'll be pulling for Central next week against Howard.
  10. Can't you just feel the Love that these two towns have for each other? Good luck to both teams.
  11. Are there any radio stations that will be carrying this game? I'm sure gonna miss this thread when it's gone. Good Luck to both teams.
  12. Report as of last week was he might be back for the Polk County game.
  13. Howard 32 ER 14. Must have been a pretty good game. That's been the lowest score Howard has put up this season. I'm hoping for a good game. If the Chiefs can put together a complete game and not beat themselves they can win. If the team that played against Central shows up then we are in trouble. Stay focused guys and play hard. We'll be in the stands cheering you on.
  14. They did play Meigs last week and Meigs did all thier scoring in the 1st quarter. From what I have seen the ND defense is solid. Meigs moved the ball on them but shot themselves in the foot with turnovers. I think they had at least three and one of those deep in ND territory. The ND offense struggled and turned the ball over several times as well. To me it looked like thier best RB was a freshman I think who has decent speed and good moves, a hard to tackle kinda kid. They did stay in the shotgun all game and they like to throw the quick outs and slants. If we come out ready to play this should be an intersting game. The open date early in the season this year killed us. You can have practice after practice but it is the in game experience that makes you a better team. They are a very young team but getting better. Hopefully the Chiefs can put it all together tonight and play well. Go CHIEFS !!!
  15. What do you think? Who will win this week in Region 3, 3A? Notre Dame vs Hixon Meigs vs Boyd Buchanan Grundy Co. vs Whitwell East Ridge vs Chatt. Central Sequoyah vs Gatlinburg-Pittman McMinn Central vs Oliver Springs Tellico vs Sweetwater
  16. Can't believe this thread dropped all the way to page 4! I thought there were some bright spots in the scrimmage against Loudon. The opening drive was a very nice drive ending in the end zone. Then if you take away the 2 turnovers for TD'S it was a close ballgame. I know I seen a much improved Sequoyah team in this game as comparred to the scrimmage against Loudon in the Spring. I was also pleased to see such a good crowd for the game. Coalfield comes in tomorrow but I know very little about them. I do know they were a very good team last year. Hope to see another good crowd for this game as well.
  17. you are going to have to talk to the source. I am just a messenger. I could care less what happens in Decatur the man just asked me to comment and I did. All I know form what he told me is that the offense was too complicated. What I think took the cake was after you went down to scrimage Bradley Co. and came away losing 4 td's to 2, which I thought didn't sound bad at all considering they are a 5-A school, but in the paper all the coach could say is how terrible his kids played an how bad they were. Maybe they did I don't know and I didn't read the article so I'm only going on what the concerned gentleman told me. It is strage though that after the article came out the 5 kids quit. Anyway I'm just a messenger. I'm sure it will all come out in the wash and from what I have read and heard you guys will have a fine season. Good Luck
  18. My source says, QUOTE:" They have taken the fun out of Football. If they don't perform at college level the wrath comes down upon them.
  19. "Quote from former Meigs football players I work with" Heard trying to coach college style football to young high school kids and if not performing college style then it's the kids fault. " SIMPLIFY THE GAME COACH" running them to death is not the answer, ( they are in shape Coach!)
  20. Looks like it is going to be a group thing. Not sure who will be calling the Defense but I do know Coach Sanders and Davidson are over the lineman, Coach Gregory and Justice are over the linebackers, Coach Black and Roberts are over the defensive backs. The kids are improving with every practice. Last night's practice was the best one yet. Two-a-Days have been good for these guys and the weather hasn't been bad at all for them. They are getting in shape that is for sure. Even though it will be a rough and tough scimmage next Friday I'm looking forward to it. The kids have come a long way since the spring. GO CHIEFS !!!!
  21. Just wanted to let everyone know that there have been two scrimmage games set for the month of August. The first one will be on Aug. 10th against Loudon at 5:30 pm. The 2nd game is scheduled for Aug 14th against Colafield at 5:30 pm. Both games will be played on Sequoyah's home field so come on out and cheer on the Chiefs.
  22. I've heard we've had a few injuries during practice. Reports of a broke arm and then yesterday a dislocated knee. Does anyone know about any other serious injuries and if these were key players that suffered these injuries?
