    Infractions

I usually refrain from commenting on posts regarding officials (seeing that I am one and more specifically the one is question regarding the 112 match between Mt Juliet and Blackman) but I feel inclined to address a few discrepancies made regarding my critics and the unfortunate call that had to be made at the state duals. 1. A PBD stated we can agree to disagree on the call. Calls are sometimes subjective at best as as posts on this thread have suggested we have just such a difference of opinion. 2. I never try to make a call about me and offended someone would infer otherwise. 3. The time in the match the call was made is irrelevant. I was unaware of the time remaining and would have made the call regardless even if I can known. 4. The assistant referee , head table official ( a TSSAA official) and tournament evaluator all backed my call. 5. The Blackman wrestler was verbally warned after twice elbowing the Mt Juliet wrestler to stop, that a penalty was incurred and the wrestling would be stopped if he continued to elbow the Mt Juliet wrestler. 6. As a statement of fact I hate ejecting anyone from a contest and especially in the case with the consequences that occurred as a result of the penalty. 7. Rocky 11 you need to read the section on Flagrant Misconduct Rule 7-5 "Flagrant Misconduct invlolves any physical or non physical acts and they can occur before, during and after a match and is any act considered by the referee to be serious enough to disqualify a contestant from the match and any additional wrestling in the multiple school event. It is not limited to striking, butting, elbowing, kicking, biting an opponent or using any tobacco products" Kyle Davis
  5. He was disqualified for too many penalty points and not for unsportsmanlike/flagrant unsportsmanlike. He will be eligible to wrestle in the regionals next week. The writer is incorrect.
  6. Science Hill 215 was DQ'd on penalty points not from the remainder of the duals tournament.
  7. East Lit wins the region over Lipscomb. Lipscomb beats MLK in the 1st round and East Lit wins over Whites Creek.
  8. Jim McCool...and yes, he is a very good official
  9. TNKO/Animal/Hamm: My last name is Davis. Thanks for the kudos Hamm. Not sure if I am in the class of officials like Jack Faircloth/PA Bowler/Barry Clark etc but I like to think I try to work as hard as any official to make the best calls I possibly can. Kyle Davis aka BoroRef
  10. Kyle Saunders from Smyrna figures to be in the mix at 160 IMO even though he has lost a 1 point decision to Colbert in the McGavocks finals. Bain from Warren County has a good chance to be in the HWT finals vs. Allen from Mt Juliet (although I do not feel he can beat him)....

    Referees?

Fatty: There is no procedure for challenging a call because you cannot do it. You can question the application of a rule or check for correct scoring. The referee cannot refuse to come to the table to address a question regarding applciation of a rule as long as there is a break in action to permit such. If a challenge to a call has been made regarding application of the rule and the official has erred then the call can be reversed/changed. If a question of the officials judgement is being made a warning or point deduction for misconduct occurs.
  12. I am not Lou and do not have a son (that I am aware of.....).
  13. In the Tennessean it was reported that Cameron committed to Harvard. Congrats!!!
  14. Michael Kennedy from Hoover,Alabama? Was that a misprint or are there two? I thought that with his showing at Nationals Mike would be ranked even behind Cameron.
  15. You will need to be registered and certified in Alabama to officiate there. As for scheduling that is done on a association basis and you would need to confer with your local associations assigning officer to determine your availablility and schedule with them. Most times they can work with you.
  16. The 15k cost is initial once you get past the purchase of the mat continual costs will be much less.
  17. CONGRATS COACH KNEPPER!! Hope the number grows more next year with the new class coming in and with more experience.
  18. The officials assigned to a region tournament are not randomly assigned by the Arbiter program. The region's coaches meet and make a list of officials they would like to officiate from all post season eligible officials. Then the area association's assigning official tries to accomodate each region as best as possible. East Lit and all region coaches have an equal opportunity to input on the preferences. FYI

    Region 7

Lowe would only be DQ'd from regionals if he received a flagrant misconduct. 1 unsportsmanlike conduct call will not prevent him from wrestling this weekend. 2 unsportsmanlike calls can get him thrown as well. FYI
  20. I want to add to what Coach Knepper commented. There was some good collegiate wrestling at MTSU this past weekend and it was my pleasure to have been able to help contribute to the tournament. I look forward to MTSU hosting again next year on what is planned as a bigger event. For those that did not attend I recommend that you do so. Comments have been made against the level of wrestling that occurs at this level but I think the results speak of themselves. Several NCWA wrestlers have gone to compete at NCAA Division 1 and lower scholarship levels after having competed at the NCWA level. Teams have also been able the compete with and beat higher levels teams (Div III, NAIA). This level of collegiate wrestling is what helps to grow this sport and support will help decide its fate. Local teams (MTSU, Austin Peay, Vanderbilt, Lee and Tenn. Temple) are helping to builds its base and appeal to local wrestlers looking to compete on the collegiate level in the sport we love!! These young men deserve all the support we can give. Kyle Davis
  21. Region 6 is the other region that the 2nd place team automatically qualifies for the state duals and has no wrestle off with another region. They received permission to wrestle Saturday due to that fact. regions duals and wrstle offs must be completed by Saturday.

    Region 7

He is no longer on the team according to Coach Easley. I will leave it at that and not get into specifics out of respect to Glencliff, Coach Easley and Dosha Mintlow.

    Region 7

I believe McGavock will be a 3rd seed and if all indications seem correct will give Glencliff and very good run for their money. They have steadily improved over the course of the season. I am not sure they quite have the horses to take Antioch (or will Glencliff for that matter with Mintlow now out for the season). It should be a good match all the way around though.
  24. The University of Central Florida (NCWA team) beat DIII teams Lawrence Univ. and The Milw. School of Eng. in December. UCF also wrestled Purdue in Florida on Monday losing 44-9. The Apprentice School beat DII St Andrew's College in December as well. In November they beat DIII Univ. of Scranton . Apprentice also finished 5th in a field of 10 at the 12/08 Spartan Invitational. They placed ahead ahead of DI teams Delaware St, Liberty Univ. and Liberty Univ. Marion Militay Institute (NCWA team) beat NAIA Cumberland in a dual in December as well. NCWA teams regularly compete in open tournaments and have frequently placed wrestlers against DI, DII, DIII and NAIA teams.
