  1. Sorry for the silence.... I hate it when work and life get in the way of Coach T updates! 147 laid a complete egg in Memphis at AAU State 13U. In game one 147 lost to the Memphis Wareagles "B" team by 4 after having beaten the "B's" three weeks ealier by 16. (Almost the exact same thing happened to 147 last year when they lost to the "B's" at YBOA State, but 147 came back to win it all. Not this year.) Coach Bray (Wareagles) did a great job in the game and they hit 7 threes in the second half to erase a 4 point half-time deficit. One of 147's starters sat out the game, but take nothing away from the Wareagles - they earned the win. In Game 2, 147 lost a heartbreaker to the Wareagles A team (who many called the favorite in the state). 147 won the first 3 quarters and had a 5 point lead with 3:57 to go. At that point, the Wareagles went on a 15 -2 run and won by 7. At that point, 147 was locked into the 7th/8th place game. 147 beat Team M&M (mostly, if not all, Brentwood Academy kids) 60 - 39 in that game. So, 147 had a very disappointing 7th place finish at AAU State. I didn't stick around, but as I understand it, Team Penny beat the Wareagles A squad in the championship game. After taking Memorial Weekend off, 147 decided not to go to YBOA State and instead traveled to Atlanta this past weekend for the Converse Tournament of the Americas hosted by D1spects. In Atlanta they beat the Atl Knicks - Orange and the Georgia Stars in pool play. The #1 Team in GA - the Atlanta Knicks - Blue, got upset in pool play by the Atlanta Celtics Gold so 147 played the Knicks - Blue in the quaterfinals on Sunday. The Knicks had 5 players taller than 147's tallest and were REALLY good. (As I understand it, the Knicks Blue had not lost to a team in GA all year.) A Knick banked in a 3 at the buzzer to send the game into OT. After the Knicks took a 2 point lead with :18 to go, 147's Jack McDonald hit a 3 as time ran out to win the game. Unbelievably exciting. In the semis, 147 took on Team World Wide (the team 147 beat in the 2010 YBOA National Championship and the 2011 YBOA National Semis). Same story. World Wide took a 1 point lead with 8 seconds left. 147's Anthony Ochoa caught a half-court rocket pass from Jeremiah Oatsvall and hit a shot with :04 to go to win by 1. In the finals, 147 took on the Atlanta Celtics Gold (the #2 team in GA). 147's Jeremiah Oatsvall hit all 14 of the team's first quarter points, including 4 threes in a row. In the end, 147 beat the Celtics 48-36 to take the Championship. 147's Anthony Ochoa, Tyler McNair and Grayson Murphy all made the All Tourney team. Jeremiah Oatsvall was the tourney MVP. It was a nice bounce back after AAU State and will hopefully propel the team to a good showing at AAU Nationals in a couple of weeks. They are playing this weekend at the Tournament of Champions at USBA in Cool Springs.
  2. Not sure, to be honest, though the team is still very closely associated with the 147 Million Orphans adoption support organization.
  3. In the 13u/7th grade division, to be played in Memphis, May 18-20, at least one of the teams to beat would be Athletes for Orphans or "A4O" (formerly Team 147). A4O signed up in the Nashville substate and no one else signed up - they all went to Clarksville. A4O is 8-0 in tournaments this season (26-1 overall) and two of the tournaments were 14u/8th grade. Team Nashville (I think they used to be The Legends) and the Music City Players (the only team to beat A4O - they have split 1-1 this season) are also two very good middle Tennessee teams. The Memphis Wareagles are always very strong in the west. I don't know much about the east Tennessee teams but Team Vision is always very strong. Team Vision and A4O have had some great games the last few years. Should be a great tournament. With it being in Memphis, I'd have to say the Memphis teams will be favored to win it.
  4. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. :roflol: Nice try. No facts and no logic so go for the 7th grade level insult. That's GREAT! What's next - my dad can beat up your dad?
  5. Dude. Seriously. Get a life and then a hobby and then read a book about being a team player. You jumped on here taking all of the credit, not only from Coach F but also from all of the players on the team. You said it was all about you. Obviously it was not. An upset in the Region tournament proves nothing. The players deserved the credit last year, and the players deserved the credit this year. And in closing to your "in closing." This, champ, is a message board. It's where people share opinions. Many disagree. Most know when they put something outrageous out there - oh, you know, something like "the whole reason my team won was because of me, part-time assitant coach" - that people will react. Heck, some people even do it on purpose just for kicks. So, in case you aren't sure how a message board works, here's a tip: if you don't want to be called out for ridiculous comments, don't post. If you want a place where people keep opinions to themselves, try journaling and then don't read what you wrote.
  6. Tonight's game is CANCELLED due to severe weather threat. No makeup date announced.
  7. Two of the top ranked 7th grade AAU teams in the country play Friday night March 2nd at 8:00 at Montgomery Bell Academy. Athletes for Orphans (A4O - formerly Team 147), YBOA 5th grade national champs and 6th grade national runners up, square off against the Alabama Cougars from Birmingham. This game is the showcase game kicking off WNSL's March Madness Tournament this weekend in Nashville. If you want to see what looks to be a great game between 2 quality teams, come out to MBA on West End at 8:00 p.m.
  8. Thanks. IMHO Lindsey was definitely the difference in the game. He sure does not seem to get rattled. While most of the CPA starters were getting frustrated or rattled by the refs or East, he kept his cool and played through. Can you check the goaltending call on the tape? I'm just curious. It happened so fast. I'd be interested in knowing if the refs got it right or missed it. (Again, I do not think one call either way decided the game.) Thanks, Coach.
  9. As I sat and watched East Lit play their hearts out against CPA, and as I watched them pretty much dismantle my DL Mustangs a game earlier, I kept thinking: well, somehow they have managed to survive without "dareal champ" on the bench with them. Go figure.
  10. Coach, I thought that Jalen missed the free throw after the disputed "give them the bucket but did not go in" call. No? It's interesting that so many have said that the block was "clearly" goal tending. I was sitting with friends behind the scorers table and we (3 of us) thought the East Lit. player got it before it hit the backboard. Doesn't really matter now. One call either way didn't decide a really great basketball game. I was there to watch the girls play and only planned on staying for the first quarter of the boys game. I stayed for the whole game. Like CPA or not. Like East Lit or not. That was one great, hard fought baketball game.
  11. Hustle, disciplined team play and defense. That's really it. Lipscomb's third quarter play forced Maplewood into lots of one on one play. When that happened Lipscomb made their run. At least that's they way I saw it. By far the best half of ball Lipscomb has played this year.
  12. Hume Fogg vs. David Lipscomb to be played Monday, January 30 at DL. By the way, congratulations to Lipscomb on a nice 17 point win tonight at Maplewood. After being down by 7 at halftime, Lipscomb totally dominated the second half. Good win for the Mustangs.
  13. Glad to hear it was just good, hard play. Hope Bradshaw is on the court again soon.
  14. Hate to hear that about Bradshaw. He's a great player. Indeed, prayers are with him. Why was the game cancelled? Was the hit taken by Bradshaw a cheap (or unnecessarily hard) shot or did it lead to rough play? Just wondering. Thanks.
  15. I thought Blackman looked like a really good team. They were pretty balanced inside and out. I was impressed. I did not see their game against Ensworth but I heard Blackman beat them pretty handily. I'm not sure they will challenge Riverdale (who will?), but they should have a good year.
  16. Just one correction - Coach Smith has won 800 each in basketball and baseball, not 1000. Still an amazing feat. Not sure anyone else in the state, or maybe the country, has done that. On top of everything else, he's a really fine Christian man who cares as much about his players as he does about winning.
  17. Lipscomb beat Blackman by 4 or 5. (They also beat Cookeville and Sequatchie).
  18. Lipscomb plays at Goodpasture Thursday night and hosts USN on Saturday.
  19. Dareal: I'll keep it short. No one talked about YOUR abilities at all. This question was about TEAMS and how they will do. For someone who thinks they are all about team, you sure toot your own horn a lot. I would suggest that perhaps you are the one who might need to read more carefully. Good luck to you.
  20. All I can say is "wow." I just read all of your previous posts, Dareal. All but one point out that dareal reason for East Lit's success last year was you. Really? Wow. Are you upset that East did not get the media coverage (which I agree with) or that YOU didn't? If you intend to stay in coaching, or even if you don't, do some research on some legendary, successful coaches. Try to find any references to me, my, I, etc. in relation to success. You won't. It will be about their team. Not them. Good lesson. I have no idea why such a "vital" piece of the "success" is no longer part of the team, but good luck to you. Hopefully last season was a learning experience. And, saying that East did not have the talent of CPA is bull. East (and Maplewood) was LOADED last year. East may not do as well this year, but I still think it will be due primarily to graduations.
  21. I think part of the silence is due to the fact that, for some - Maplewood, Pearl Cohn, CPA - football is still going so they are not in basketball gear yet. For some, CPA seems to be such a runaway favorite in 10AA that there isn't much to talk about. Having said that, I think it will come down to CPA and Maplewood again this year. East Lit lost a ton of seniors. MLK doesn't seem to have the horses that Doc has been used to having in the past. I look for Hume Fogg and Whites Creek to be about the same, if not down this year. Stratford and Pearl Cohn will, I think, bring up the rear. DL could be a wild card this year. They've lost some good players since last year but from what I've seen I think they will be fun to watch and could make some noise by the end of the season. Not sure they can challenge CPA or Mapmewood yet, though. They've got some good, young players and a couple of new guys to compliment the veterans so we'll see. Hopefully they will gel quickly. So, there's a non-CPA, non-off-the-court-stuff post, for what it's worth. Print it off and it (and $5) will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks!
  22. Congratulations to Team 147, 12u boys team out of Nashville. This past week they finished 2nd in the YBOA National Tournament in Orlando, FL. Team 147 went 6-1 for the week, losing only in the tournament final to Team Future from Orlando. The tournament featured teams from all over the Southeast, East Coast (Boston, etc.), Midwest, Southwest and Puerto Rico. The 147 boys won the YBOA Nationals last year, beating Team Future in the semi-finals. But, Team Future got the best of them this year. Still, a great season for Team 147 and head coach Scott Oatsvall. 147 won the YBOA and AAU State Tournaments in TN as well as several other tournaments this year. Congratulations, guys! Job well done and GO 147!
  23. Team 147 beat the Wisconsin Playground Elite 37-28 in the first round of the Gold Division Championship this morning. In the elite eight 147 lost to eventual tournament champs Primetime Select (tournament hosts) 37-25. So, 147 finishes 3-1 on the tourney against some of the top 12u teams in the country. All in all a great experience. Go Team 147!
  24. Team 147 opens up the NOLA Hoops Prime Time Super 60 tournament in New Orleans by winning 54-30 vs D-Gibs Hoops from Houston, TX and 37-36 vs The Arkansas Rim Rockers (the Arkansas State AAU champs) to win our pool. Play begins tomorrow morning in the gold championship bracket vs The Wisconsin Playground Elite. Go 147!
