  1. Glad to help. Yeah, bad loss by DL to Hume Fogg. Hopefully they will put it behind them and play like they know they can tomorrow night vs Pearl Cohn.
  2. You have described the tournament seeding as I understand it. Not sure if White's Creek or Hume Fogg gets the number 3 seed. So tomorrow night's games are: #2 Lipscomb hosts #7 Pearl Cohn; #3 Hume Fogg/White's Creek hosts #6 East Lit; #4 Hume Fogg/White's Creek hosts #5 MLK; #1 CPA gets a bye. I did see the DL/Hume Fogg game. Very disappointing from my perspective. Not to take anything at all away from HF - they played a great game, especially Gooch. But, as jacked as DL was for the CPA game, they were equally flat for Hume Fogg (at least from my point of view). It was just one of those bad losses that you forget about and move on. Hopefully, they will.
  3. I could be wrong, but I think the only 2 teams banned from postseason play this year are Maplewood and Stratford (because of last year's fight). So there are 7 teams playing in the District Tournament, which begins quarterfinal action on Tuesday night. Because of this year's altercation, Maplewood is banned from the postseason again next year. Not sure about Pearl. Tennessean said Maplewood is on "restrictive" probation and Pearl just on "probation." Not that I would put much stock in anything the Tennessean said... Should be a great tournament...

Brian Allsmiller. New this year. His son is the freshman transfer who is tall, thin and can shoot the lights out from 3. Daughter was a standout for Ensworth last year.
  5. The stage is set for tomorrow night's showdown between the Lady Mustangs and the Lady Lions. A lot is riding on this one: District Championship, seeding for the District Tournament and pride. Bottom line, if DL wins they clinch 1st place and number one seed in the District Tournament. If CPA wins it likely means a tie in the regular season and a coin flip(?) for seeding. Both teams will have great support tomorrow night. Students will be wound up. It's Senior Night at Lipscomb plus the possibility of a surprise or two along the way. Should be fun! GO LADY MUSTANGS!
  6. Like I said - you obviously weren't there. Outcoached and outplayed. Even CPA folks I talked to agreed. You're just mad because your Eagles got spanked by Lipscomb.
  7. CPA and Lipscomb have long since clinched the top two spots in the district. Assuming both teams take care of business tomorrow night - and that is not a slam dunk by a long shot - then Tuesday night at DL will be huge. If DL wins, they clinch first no matter what happens in the final game. If CPA wins, then it's a tie for first with one game left. Coach, do you know what the tie breaker would be? If both teams are 15-1 would it be a coin toss? Since the district champ gets a first round bye this year that would be one big coin toss!
  8. You obviously did not see the game at CPA that DL won. CPA was outcoached and outplayed that night.
  9. CPA may win, but they won't dominate. 6 of the last 7 games have been decided by 3 points or less. Plus, this game is on Lipscomb's home court on senior night. Even though the Lady Mustangs have no seniors on the team, there will be a great crowd there and the girls will be ready. Should be another great game with the Lady Mustangs winning.
  10. Lindsey is a freshman this year but he did play varsity last year. And, yes, he is really good.
  11. It wasn't inadvertent. He reached out and tipped/slapped it. I really dont think it was malicious - it was just a pure heat of the moment thing. It was a great atmosphere. Both teams were playing at 100 mph. Maplewood was pressing and DL's guy was going hard in front of the Maplewood bench. I think for just a split second the coach reverted back to his playing days. After the technical was called the coach argued for just a second and then looked kind of like "shoot, I just did that, didn't I?" It was really a strange thing but it was a great, hard fought game.
  12. David Lipscomb beat Maplewood tonight 42-39. With about a minute to play and the score either tied or Maplewood up by 1, as a Lipscomb player was dribbling down the sideline in front of the Maplewood bench, the Maplewood coach reached out and touched the ball! Technical foul. Lipscomb hits both shots and goes on to win the game. Unbelievable!
  13. Well, I forgot that Maplewood and Stratford are ineligible for the District Tournament this year (due to the fight last year). So, Maplewood won't be battling anyone for 3/4 or any other seed. It's too bad, they are playing pretty well.... And speaking of playing well, Whites Creek put a scare in Lipscomb last week. The Creek had 3 starters playing this time that did not play in a early season 46 point loss to the Lady Mustangs. Apparently the first time 1 was a transfer who wasn't yet eligible and 1 had a concussion. Not sure about the other one. They definitely made a difference, though. The Creek could make some noise down the road.... And speaking of noise, The Creek has a couple of unbelievably LOUD fans - and apparently very angry, too. I'm not sure why they are so loud or so angry, but I was sitting right in front of and beside them and it was painful, in more ways than one.... And speaking of painful, I hate when games are cancelled as the DL/Maplewood games were tonight due to the snow. I understand why, I just hate it. Love watching high school basketball. Let's hope the rest of the weekend's games are played. Be safe out there....
  14. What a great game Friday night between Lipscomb and CPA. It was a great atmosphere. I'm guessing there were at least 15 or more lead changes or ties in the game. Both coaches were INTENSE and the girls on both teams played their hearts out. Lipscomb was fortunate to come out on top in this one. Congrats to the Lady Mustangs and Coach Smith! This has turned into a great rivalry over the last few years. It should be another great game when CPA visits Lipscomb on February 8th.
  15. Big game tonight between CPA and Lipscomb. Both teams are 5-0 about a 3rd of the way through district play. CPA, at least in my mind, is still the clear favorite. Their non-district losses have come at the hands of some really good teams. Playing at home tonight will be an edge as well. Lipscomb would have to be a surprise so far at 11-2 overall. When the girls play together as a team (and they ususally do) they are tough to beat. They really get after you on defense but they have hit some cold streaks shooting-wise and that has hurt them some. They have it in them if they put it all together. They had a close overtime loss to a really good FRA team (that CPA beat by 1) and a really good come from behind win over Wilson Central in the last playday before the season. (Yes, I know playdays mean nothing, but people at that game saw flashes of a really, really good Lipscomb team - and, I'd rather have won it than gotten beat by 20!) Anyway, should be a great game tonight. As for the rest of the district, Maplewood and MLK are two surprises, at least for me. They have both played really well at times. East Lit lost a lot but as Lipscomb found out Tuesday night, they can still be very dangerous. (Lipscomb won but didn't take the final lead until late in the game.) I haven't seen Hume Fogg yet but record-wise they apprear to have had a drop off this year. At the end I think it will be CPA/Lipscomb fighting for 1/2 and Maplewood/East Lit for 3/4 in District 10AA. But, what do I know? Just random thoughts on a Friday morning.... Enjoy the games tonight! What a blessing to get to watch young adults play a great game!
  16. For 12u I would start with Team 147 out of Nashville. They won the 11u YBOA Nationals this past summer. They only lost 1 game in Tennessee and that was in Memphis about a month before nationals. 147 is coached by Scott Oatsvall and his son was the National Tournament MVP. The Tennessee Thunder (I think that's the name - a team from mostly USN in Nashville) and the Nashville Celtics are both pretty good teams as well. I'm sure there are others that I don't know about. No disrespect intended to any not mentioned.
  17. CPA over PC Lipscomb over Whites Creek Maplewood over Stratford East Lit. over White House No surprises there. But MLK over Hume Fogg, and by a pretty good margin (if I remember the box score right). What's up there? Is Hume Fogg down? Is MLK up? I haven't seen either team play but that has to be the surprise of the week. Anyone have any insight?
  18. I think Lipscomb may surprise some people this year. It's true that they graduated 5 seniors - 4 who pretty much started every game - but this years starters got good playing time last year and are playing well together. There are no seniors on the team so they will be young. They start 4 juniors and a sophomore. Look for balanced scoring - maybe a different points leader every game. If they keep everyone healthy - something that has been a problem the past few years - they could challenge CPA for the District crown.
  19. Maplewood just went up 45-7 early in the 4th. Loads of talent + good coaching makes a team hard to beat. Definitely not the Mustang's night but they have nothing to hang their heads about. It's been a great season and the seniors have had great careers. Congratulations to the Panthers on a great game. Good luck next week.
  20. Yeah, totally missed it. Thanks for the explanation. Thought you were slipping.
  21. Matt: just curious about your question as to whether the game matters. Why wouldn't it? I know DL is 4A and CPA 3A, but they are in the same district and the way the playoffs are decided, doesn't every game matter? That plus DL vs CPA has turned into a great, great rivalry for both schools in just about every sport. Please explain.
  22. Members of Team 147: Head Coach - Scott Oatsvall, Asst. Coach - Perry Lyons, Players - Jeremiah Oatsvall, Grayson Murphy, Jack McDonald, Michael (Mo) Mayernick, Clay Washburn, Omar Lyons, David Ivy, Barr Ellenburg, Jonathan Clausi and Elijah Oatsvall. Here is a link to an article about the team and what "Team 147" stands for out of the Nashville City Paper: "http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/sports/local-team-topples-four-state-champs-en-route-national-hoops-crown".
  23. This afternoon in Orlando, FL, Team 147 from Nashville beat the Atlanta Celtics 55-51 to win the YBOA 11u Div. I National Tournament. The Team was undefeated in pool and bracket play. Head Coach is Scott Oatsvall from FRA. Jeremiah Oatsvall was tournament MVP. Grayson Murphy and Jack McDonald were named to the all tournament team. Michael ("Mo") Mayernick received the "Hustle Award." Along the way Team 147 defeated the Cowboys Select (TX), the Georgia-Lina Heat (GA), the Alabama Hustlers (B'ham, AL), the Houston Swoosh (TX), Team Atlanta (GA), Team Futures (Orlando, FL), and the Atlanta Celtics - JS (GA) in the championship game. The Team Futures featured a 6'2" kid and Shaq's son (not the same kid). Congratulations to all of the players and coaches! GO TEAM 147!
  24. Sounds like Ezell must have stomped your team.
  25. Lipscomb University is your best bet. They have 3 day guard or post position camps and then skills camps where the kids receive individual instruction and play on 5 on 5 teams. You can go to "lipscombsports.com" for more info.
