  1. Lot of turnovers by both sides early... Jitters? Early time? Up-tempo game? I say the lady Bobcats take this one home, just playing with alot of confidence right now after beating JC and CSAS(29-2). Upper Cumberland: Represent!!!
  2. GO Pickett Co., keep puttin' it to 'em
  3. I didn't bring up the issue with any intent or thought of Upperman having Home-court advantage... I brought it up just because of the great interest and crowd that either finals matchup mentioned above would bring...
  4. Just looking ahead to possible Finals matchups, whether it is Station Camp/ LA or another LA/Upperman match... I wonder if a change of venue should or could take place and play the game at Tech. I know that just the crowd at the LA/Upperman game last night would not have been able to fit in Upperman's gym... And if TSSAA is in it for the $$$ and/or the showcasing the games/kids, either of these possible region finals would draw much interest 'round these parts in the UC and mid-state. Is it possible or does it have to play out at Upperman?
  5. From my vantage point, it seemed Davis would pick her lane and go, no help defense would come to either turn her or stop her from driving. SMHS seemed to have no one who would slide defend and turn Davis back to the middle. Most times Davis wouldn't have a clear path to the goal, but she makes that 6-12 ft runner off the glass look so easy. Clarkrange faced a similar player in Christopher who uses her dribble penetration very well, CHS would at least turn her back into the defense by using two defenders, granted, I know #5 was 10 of 14 from the field but, she elevates on her jumper like no girl I have seen since maybe Julie Powell of Cannon Co. way back in the day. If a team would turn Davis (meaning stop her drive, make her reverse her dribble or pick it up) and not let her have that runner she makes so well, they might limit her to 20 and not give her the 30 pt game she had yesterday.
  6. Great job SMHS, went this same road last year... Let's see if ya'll can make a little deeper run into the State tourney this year.
  7. Puttin on 'EM!!! Just in a different league... Another trip to the 'boro for the Lady Buffaloes and Coach Rogers... REPRESENT well down in the Scenic City!!!!
  8. Looking foward to one heck of a game!!! Go Lady Buffaloes!!!
  9. Thanks, good to hear. I also agree about the 1st rd games... Several interesting matchups and good opportunity for coaches to scout other teams.
  10. Thanks so much for the info. I am sure the "powers that be" looked at other sites (possibly Cookeville HS or Avery Trace?) I mean I understand it is a huge undertaking to host, but like you said something needs to be done... Haven't been to G'ville in many years, still the same or have they built a new school/ gymnasium? To my recollection the old G'ville gym I played in, wouldn't seat Half the amount of people that attended the Dist 7A final game, much less a Regional Final, am I right?
  11. Am I wrong or is the Region 4A tourney site not at Upperman this year? Has something changed? I know this region was at Watertown last year isn't the site on the 7A side this year? Just need to make sure I have not missed out on a change because the TSSAA site has Upperman as 4A site this year.
  12. Has Westmoreland even played Jackson Co. this year? No they haven't. So you comparing what Westmoreland would do in that situation is not only unrealistic but very juvenile in thinking. Westmoreland probably has a decent ball team this year, but the teams out of District 7A have historically DOMINATED those teams from 8A. Why, Reason # 1 is they play tougher competition to ready themselves for Regions, Sectionals, and then State. I am pretty sure 8A teams' schedules can't hold a candle to the kind of schedules JC or Clarkrange has played this year or any previous years.
  13. Is this truth or rumor? Where did you get your info? This is first I have heard of this...
  14. Most will go to Stone Memorial, I'm not positive but one or two may go to CCHS. High schools in Cumb Co. are hard zoned, but elementarys are not, so parents could take a child to which ever Elem school but if they live in the another feeder schools zone, then they should go to the other high school, But Crab Orchard is a feeder to SMHS. We played man to open (our guards outsize theirs) to defend outside shots, but then their bigs would clean up any misses. Our 1-2-1-1 full court press bothered them a little and we forced some turnovers, we would fall back into our 1-2-2 zone . CO is just so balanced, anyone would have to catch them on an off night, if possible? Yeah their bigs are good, inside and out. Tough team...
  15. Yes Crab Orchard is, as I mentioned above one of the best Jr High teams I have seen possibly ever. If they are shooting well from outside, they will score close to 70 in a game, if not they will still put 50 on ya. My team played them to within 16, we thought we competed very well. We drew Southside in 1st rd down there and were up by 5 early in third qrtr, and their press took over, then b-b 3's and we were done. People have told me that we had the toughest draw in the AA JCH, I guess they were right. This was the first year we had ever been down there, trying to build a competitive team at a school that has barely competed at a descent level for 20 years. Thanks alot for the INFO...
  16. Anyone know semi-final results for: AA Southside v Cornerstone? A Crab Orchard v Hilham? A Allons? Would appreciate any info on who will be playing in Finals tomorrow...
  17. If you are thinking of a Jr high kid from CO, it would have either been Cumby, Ballard (SMHS senior now), or Cravens (CCHS soph now). That is within the last 3-7 yrs. Anyone have any Semi final results from A and AA from last night's games, wondering about whether to plan a trip back down to the 'boro to watch tomorrow?
  18. You are probably thinking about Cumby ( Danny). He was a real good ballplayer. When he was at CCHS under Coach Buck, they went to Regional Finals and to Seigal for a sub-state game, he had some most memorable games that year playing against Cleveland with Charles Little and company. He could have played either Basketball or baseball at the next level, I just don't think he did the necessary things in the classroom to be eligible. He was one of the better ones in CCHS's history though, no doubt.
  19. Having played both teams (Crab Orchard and Hilham twice apiece). I give Crab Orchard the edge. I am sure Hilham has improved since we seen them, but honestly IMO Crab Orchard is the most skilled, all around team at the 8th grade level I have seen, possibly ever. CO has it all, they can be somewhat streaky on perimeter shooting, if they are off from outside, the score will stay somewhat respectable. But inside, there frontline (Cole, Dishman, Breeden) are hard for any team to match up with.
  20. "Roads r terrible" is an understatement to those inclined to get car sick. I recall going there during my high school career and getting so sick that I couldn't play that night and I was a starter (turned white as a ghost, broke into a cold sweat, body was completely depleted of any energy) . I had to sit in the front of the bus to make sure I didn't puke evrywhere. Worst bus ride ever.
  21. I was so surprised too, that it had been reported. But being a smaller town, people will look at those pics and see who they know or to see if they may be in one. And being a public figure, whether a Coach or a teacher or part of a team, you and your family will be scrutinized and watched for most anything, that's part of it, trust me I know... Hey it makes sense to me that he was getting ready to whistle, but I can bet you that hardly anyone would initially buy that, seeing the pic. I put it off as a "teenage boy being a teenage boy", but at the same time wondered if there might be any fallout from it. It is just a sad part of the business of coaching, teaching, etc., you will not always be pleasing everyone and you are subjected to this kind of stuff, again trust me I know what its like and as mentioned I looked at it an adolescent mistake. Again I want to say that I enjoy looking at the pics of the games, but I guess maybe the lesson is (and don't take this wrong) that taking a pic of a bunch of kids at a ballgame souped up on cokes and candy bars and the adrenaline of cheering on your team, you never know what ya might see. I would just stick to the court and the team and I am sure you will be allright on the pics.
  22. As a Cumb countian who tries to do his best to root for both high schools, I appreciate the photo galleries posted to this site. They are excellent photos that capture the game and true spirit of High School ball (and the SMHS team) very well. I am pretty sure I seen the photo probably in question in the gallery, funny too it has now been removed from that gallery. I can see how it may have brought embarassment upon a certain family and possibly the entire boys program at Stone. I find it funny that someone would have called the school to complain, I guess alot more folks look at them than I thought. I guess what the real question is, is "where does the fault lie on this photo? Is it on the kid who was making the gesture in the pic or is it on you for not proofreading the pics before posting them? When I first saw the pic, I thought I would be the only one to really to see it, I guess not. If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about it. I bet it was a real lesson learned for that boy to watch his manners and/or gestures at a public venue, because he obviously had no clue a snapshot was being taken, sort of a Classic (LOL) in my opinion...
  23. JC girls do have a great team and already have another scheduled game @ Clarkrange on Jan 22. But maybe another shot might present itself at the Mid South. It has been mentioned on several occasions that these two teams may get to see one another up to 5 times, we will see what happens, Oh yeah and Clarkrange fans won't be a worrying!!! LOL Coach Rogers will have his team focused on the BIG PICTURE, just as Coach Brown is, I will bet ya that.
  24. up2late, Hey I am all for "making it count everytime a team hits the floor." I hope that you could see my point on that, a coach may want to "experiment, maybe try to play to the level of his opponent to test some kids in a heated or meaningful situation. I have seen mediocre to bad teams go to summer camps, pre-season scrimmages and beat teams they wouldn't compete with in a regular season game. So yes, count it because you play it, HOF, I just don't think you can put a whole lot of stock into it (this game), which is what this entire Topic seemed to be on.
