  1. Mainly because Halls is the second best team in the other district. I also think Clinton and Powell could beat William Blount, but I don't know if they are better. I am rooting for William Blount to win the district, because I think Coach Baumann deserves it. His team plays really hard and you can't take that away from them. Good luck Govs the rest of the way.
  2. I will bet my house that you won't beat Oak Ridge. You barely beat them and they started two freshmen. They only had two starters in that game and you squeeked by with a win. Oak Ridge will beat you by double digits. As for Bearden, I think you will beat them at your place, but with the way referees caudle Tony White Jr. I'm really not sure you will be able to overcome it. I will give you some respect, I think you are the 4th best AAA team in the region. You are right behind 1 Oak Ridge 2 Bearden 3 Halls 4 William Blount.
  3. The Lenoir City assistant coach got the T in the game at home. The head coach has not been t'd all season. Wartburg is a really good team and they will go far if they continue to play this type of ball. Good Luck coach Layne and all the dogs from Lenoir City.
  4. I would like to congratulate Wartburg on another big win. I will not make excuses for Lenoir City. It is a little unusual however for a team to shoot 51 free throws in a game. Wartburg attempted 20 more free throws and they press the entire game. Coach Layne is either a wizard defensive coach or something out of the coaches hands was at work here. Wartburg was in the 1 and 1 with 6 minutes to play in the 3rd... That's right in the 3rd. They were shooting the double bonus with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd...That's right the 3rd. They made more free throws than Lenoir City shot. Lenoir City primarily played a sagging M2M, and Wartburg runs a relentless full court press most of the game. They are extremely physical and really use their hands throughout the defensive possession. They scored 16 points off of 4 Lenoir City technicals. The Lenoir City coach has not been t'd all season, but he and 3 Lenoir City players drew one tonight. Wartburg scored 20 points the whole first half and scored 40 in the 3rd. Yes 40. 18 of which came from the line. They attempted 38 free throws in the second half alone. I'm not saying that Lenoir City would have won the game...It's just a shame that 3 grown men would not even give them a chance. You need to shake this one off Panthers and go get one tommorrow night.
  5. Having seen McMinn Central, I would have to say they are the top AA team in the East. I think Austin East and Fulton are very close, AE being better than Fulton. Alcoa could also be in the running to make a trip to the Boro. That being said, Haywood, Boliver, Liberty, and Mitchell will probably be the representatives from West Tennessee. Having lived over there for years and knowing what West Tennessee basketball looks like I would say that the champion will reside West of the Tennessee River once again. You guys need to be realistic. Beau Brown is a mid major D-I or strong D-II player at best. Blake Derrick might be able to play at Wesleyan. Other than that they have no college bound players at this point. The two sophomores may develop into college players, but at this point they are not ready. Boliver, Haywood, Mitchell and Liberty all have D-I players. In this case Boliver has two high major D-I players in Kemp (Memphis) and Chism (Tennessee). At the same time Mitchell has Thad Young (top five recruit in the nation). The reason Central has absolutely no chance against any of these teams is this. They must press and take the ball away from you to fuel their potent offense. They will not be able to take the ball away from any of these teams. Central's half court D is very suspect. That being said, I still would like to see a Gold Ball come back to East Tennessee in something besides single A but I just don't see it happening...But anyway good luck Chargers.
  6. Congratulations Joe Layne and Wartburg for a big win...The game was gift wrapped in the form of a bogus technical against the Lenoir City bench. LC inspite of the tech still should have won the game. They did not execute down the stretch and Wartburg made plays...Don't get on here and say that Wartburg had to beat the refs...Any ref that would take the game from the kids and put it in his hands in the last minute is a loser...It's unfortunate that the players didn't decide the outcome.
  7. It has always intrigued me to examine the Lenoir City and Loudon rivalry. Two schools nine miles apart filled with so much hatred and comtempt for one another. I have (as a Lenoir City Player, Coach, and Fan) never shown much love for the Redskins, but I really respect their sports programs and the town in general. Now that Coach Wells is there, I am their biggest fan, as long as they are not matched up against the Panthers. I have some friendly advice for the citizens of Loudon...Don't let your hatred of Lenoir City cost you to lose a great up and coming coach....He is passionate, knowlegable, and hard working. He will never do anything to embarrass your school or community and he will always represent your people with class and honor. Those are all the characteristics of the great coaches...You have one and shoud be proud, because he is proud to be your COACH....
  8. Prayers are coming from Lenoir City...May God be with you in your recovery...My best friend tore his ACL in high school and made a complete recovery and went on to have a great career in college...You will make it back and be better than ever just have faith in the All Mighty...Faith like a child....
  9. Anderson County has not lost a District game in over two years...Will the streak be broken tonight? Or will AC keep the magic rolling? Loudon has the athletes to make it happen, but are they ready? Will the football rust be too much to overcome? I look for Wells' Redskins to scalp the Mavericks and shift the balance of 4AA power. Good Luck Wellsi...Go Skins...
  10. In the scrimmage with AC how did the Shannon/Laverdier battle play out? Both are great players, and I bet it was an entertaining matchup...

  12. $65 per night X 3 nights a week X 16 weeks = $3,120. If the refs work 4 games a week then that is and extra 16 X $65 for a total of $4,160 which is definately more than alot of head coaches make. thumb Refs make just as much as the average coach yet the coaches are the only ones that have to be accountable.
  13. To me that is the beauty of it...No body knows anyone nor should they get so caught up in it that they obsess about what anyone thinks...I as a coach think that it is super and I always keep up with other teams and actually use it to benefit my program. Huge tool for the fans, players, and coaches...Don't see how it helps the refs a whole lot because nobody does anything on here but bash the refs.
  14. Now that I have taken 10 minutes of my life to read every single post of this thread...I must say I am sooooooo Coacht... I can also say from experience and since no one has used it yet...you are so coacht if you have sat through two meetings with the superintendent of your school system telling you not to post on coacht or you will be fired...I left that system because I could not give up coacht....HAHAHAHAHA thumb
  15. Demoted to JV and Freshmen games would be a better solution...Another problem is that TSSAA is more caught up in proper mechanics than referees that understand the game. Who cares if your arm is at the right angle when you call a foul, just make sure you call the fouls correctly...It is really absurd when you think about it.
  16. Is it possible for a team to foul 8 times without the other team fouling? Yes. Is it likely? No. I think what all coaches, players, and fans are looking for is consistency. Just try to call the game the same for each team competing and the problem will be resolved. Too many times officials make calls based on what they view as the norm...For example if a team or player is really supposed to be good I think that influences the way the game is officiated. Case in point. If a DI player get's his shot blocked by a marginal player what do you think the call is going to be nine times out of ten? Of coarse...Foul. Reverse the role and the DI player is blocking the shot? nine times out of ten it is a clean block. I agree with the earlier post that said the best officiated games are the ones where you never even knew the officials were there. I also do not understand why there is no accountability for referees other than an area supervisor. There needs to be a grading system with coaches input to keep the officials sharp. Kind of like the restaurant comment cards just to be used as feedback. I would be interested in seeing how many games are played where both coaches shared the same opinion of the officials. I would be willing to be that more often than not, both would think they were not good...
  17. Is CAK that good or did Wartburg just play that bad...Please give us some info on this game.
  18. Confuscious say, beware of athletes attacking press. Tend to make Wizard very angry. Good Luck thumb WV.
  19. Who won the Wartburg vs Loudon game Saturday night?
  20. Are you saying that Hopkins and Starks didn't have class? I don't know the new coaching staff, but I will venture to say that no matter how classy they are, they will be crucified when Dyer County is not successful this year. Coach Starks deserved that job and everyone close to the matter that knows all the details understands that he was done wrong. I will not speak badly of the administration at the school because their hand was forced. Just know this. When all Dyer County fans start complaining make sure you point the finger in the right direction. THE CENTRAL OFFICE....AKA. Dyersburg's puppets.
  21. I do agree that Westview will be fighting for the top spot. However, I do feel that graduation took the heart and soul of the Lady Chargers. I may be wrong, but we will see.
  22. I always like to throw my two cents in, and though it may not be worth two cents here it goes. The Lady Choctaws will be the surprise team in West Tennessee this year. They are the only team that returns it's entire nucleus from last season. They have solid guards in Akin, Mason, Wright and Barr; Solid post play in Fisk, Pirtle and Peevyhouse. Add a dead eye shooter named Cupples to the mix and they are a complete team. After two seasons of learning the ropes they are extremely hungry. They only lost two games all summer and are poised to make a run this season. Though I am no longer with the Lady Chocs I know it is their time and look for them to challenge for a state tournament birth out of West Tennessee. Finishing order should be Dyer County, Martin Westview, Obion County, and Crockett or Gibson. Go ahead and blast me, but most of you know that it is not far fetched. I can guarantee this. No coaches in 13AA are looking forward to those Dyer County dates.
  23. Flew the teepee in June. I'm coaching at Lenoir City-My home town.
  24. Lenoir City High School in East Tennessee is looking for one boys team to complete its schedule for this years classic. The teams that you will play will be Lenoir City, Loudon, and Greenback. You will receive a percentage of the gate and reasonable accommodations. If interested contact coach Tony Williams @ (865) 765-2265.
